  • Mileage Calculation.....

Hey SZians, I just calculated the mileage of my bike..... The calculation goes here,
Got reserve at the 2704 kilometre -- Filled three litres of petrol at the 2706th km... Again my bike got reserved at the 2886th KM.....
So,2886-2706=180.Again 180-2(the km ran during reserve period)=178. 178/3= 59.33..... I am really happy..... Is this procedure correct to calculate the mileage??
During this period maximum speed touched is 80 KMPH... The normal speed is 60KMPH...And again after 2886th KM reserve hit, ran for 20KMs and at 2096th KM filled in 2 litres of petrol.....Yet to check the mileage of this 2ltrs..... Need suggestions from fellow riders about this calculation....

Dudes, This story is facing the twist now....Yes,After 2886th KM rode for 20Kms and then @ 2906th KM i filled 2ltrs...Again my bike gotinto reserve at 2979th KM.... So,totally it ran for 73KMs only....(+20 on reserve)...So may i conclude that i got only 46.5KM/L???? Confused Really.....Senior members pls suggest a good method to calculate the mileage.....

Again at 2986th Km i filled 5 ltrs to check out the mileage...I ll update once i hit reserve again......

            • Yet another mileage update from me.

Bike had about 1 liter of petrol, when i filled in petrol of Rs. 200/- which is around 3 liters, odo reading was 1300 kms, hit reserve at 1403 kms. Mileage approximately 52 kmpl, keeping the fact in mind that bike was standing for 1 whole day outside and during day time the temperature in Pune touching 40 degrees so chances of evaporation are very high, and still got that figure. :P

After 1st service I consistently got 50 kmpl of mileage.

Gave the bike for second servicing today, they charged me for chain lube! I am going to talk to SVC manager about it in the evening.

              • Hello All,

Second Service done yesterday, the bike is smoother and gears are even more smoother. I guess it was my old engine oil which was giving me problems.

Spoke with Service Manager about the chain lube and also asked him the reason why Rs. 230/- for chain lube! He then explained it to me in detail, he said they have 2 type of chain lube, first one is Yamalube coming directly from Japan costs around Rs. 1415/- (Thats what he claimed) and second one is Motul Chain lube costs around Rs. 500/-. He then showed me difference, there were quite a lot of FZs and Fazers in the work shop on one of the FZ the chain was whitish, he said this chain is lubed with Yamalube chain lube and the chain surface was very smooth as it is powdered. Then he took Motul chain lube and sprayed it on one of other bike for sample on small portion of chain, he then asked me to check it with finger and yes it was very sticky, he said as it is sticky the dust and other particles can easily accumulate on it, which might end up in damaging the chain, then i checked my bikes chain and it was whitish too which proved that they have used genuine Yamalube chain lube, it is not that I am doubting them but it was just a confirmation that the chain has been lubed perfectly.

They also have fixed idling of my bike, after first service cold idle RPM was 600-700 RPM! and Hot engine RPM was 1000. Now Cold engine RPM is 900 RPM and hot is 1100 RPM. Sound of engine is smooth, throttle response increased, in all its good after second service.

Yet to calculate mileage after second service I will keep it posted.

                Cheers!

The reserve to reserve method of calculating the bike's mileage is one of the most common methods and is also quite accurate if I may say so.

What you are doing is right. The mileage can be calculated using this method. However, you should ensure that the bike is not still under the run in period as calculating the mileage during this period is mostly pointless.

If you have completed the run in period, follow these steps exactly to calculate the mileage:

                  1. Go to a fuel station as soon as the bike hits the reserve (within 2-3 Kms of hitting the reserve if possible) and refuel the bike with exactly 3 ltr fuel.

                  2. Reset the trip meter to 0000 if your bike has it (not sure if SZ-X/SZ-R have it) or else note down the Km reading at the fuel station.

                  3. Now continue to ride the bike in mixed conditions of traffic (let's say 50% in city traffic and 50% on highways)

                  4. Note the reading when the bike hits reserve again (or check the trip meter reading if available)

                  5. Calculate the mileage by dividing the Kms run by 3 (since you filled 3 ltrs of fuel). Don't forget to add the Kms you ran in reserve (like you are doing right now)

                  6. Don't just take this mileage as the final figure. Repeat the entire experiment at least 3 times.

                  7. Take an average of all mileages. That should be the accurate mileage you get based on YOUR riding conditions.

                  Hope this helps..

Are you kidding me man? Rs 230 for a chain lube?? Yamaha is sure fooling the customers. Yamalube doesn't cost so much. Even if the original can costs 1415 rs as he claims, he would not even have used 5% of the entire contents. Normally the authorized service stations charge around 25-30 Rs for consumable charges. There's no way they can charge rs 230 for lubing the chain !! This is insane !!

Thanks brother....I did the same thing as u suggest.....After hitting reserve at 2979,filled 5ltrs...Again reserved at 3213....So, 3213-2979=234/5=46.8KMPL... Quite satisfied with the mileage...But,still i wonder how did the bike delivered 60KMPL during the first time mileage calculation......

                      • So finally, the mileages i got for last three times are,59.33+46.5+46.8/3=50.87...So may i conclude that i m getting the mileage of 51??? Luking for ur suggestions.....

Yes, the SZX delivers a mileage of around 50 Kmpl if ridden sanely. However, make sure you wait for the bike to undergo at least 2 services and then calculate the mileage using the method I have mentioned previously. That will be the most accurate reading. But you can assume that the mileage would be 50 Kmpl (+-5 Kmpl deviation is possible)
