My experience.
hey guys, i got an szr ysterdy after a short wait. after riding it for 35 kms till now, i like to share my views and post my questions here.
On road price =63331 + 777 for 4 yrs xtended wrnty (optional)
dealer = CAG yamaha, coimbatore. Experience = good punctuality.booked on 18th may delivered on 6th june.
review = fantastic, smooth engine excellent comfort and handling. i was afraid if i would skid while takin sharp turns but no. TVS tires have been good to me i had good control while riding in traffic and while turning. engine sound is pleasant if we ride at 45plus speed. i never felt the pillion rider being there at all bcoz of good weight distribution.
cons = headlight swithches are not in reach, it feels irritating to reach them at night. pickup on 2nd gear is not so good. fuel indicator is inaccurate and so is the speedo.
questions
1= i am experiencing a rough gear shift though i apply full clutch.
2= while crossing a speed breaker, i fell the engine has some grunting noise while revving at 2nd gear. what shud i do?
3= what are the speeds to be maintained in each gear?
4 =i want to ride at 40-45 kmph as per the manual but i am not sure if i should ride on 4th or 5th gear. 4th is fine but using 5th for that speed gives that 'you dont need me for this, try my sibling the 4th for this
' kind of sound and feeling. but in this forum members have suggested to use 5th so i am really confused. pls enlighten me if it is necessary to move on top gear at this speed.

grinding noise on 4th gear.
the bike is getting smoother and smoother every day and so is the gear shift. i am getting a grinding noise and vibaration while riding at 45km 4000 rpm, i dont know why.
yetrday i took it to the SVC to complain abt the front disk brake which is not at all effective but they said disk brake cant be tightened or loosened
is that true? but i am sure my disc does not have any effect if applied even fully. i am not convinced when they said that as the bike becomes older the brakes wil become set and effective. could anyone give me a proper idea on what i shud do from here?

hi sathish! congrats on your purchase.
don't worry, these are very common symptoms of a young bike. i had the same complaints when I got my SZR as well.
1 - gear shifting will be smooth after some 1000km.
2 - yeah, 2nd gear is very torquey. that's why you get the grunt.
3 - don't know the exact speedo figures, but maintain 2.5k to 4k rpm in each gear.
4 - i think 40 is too less for the 5th gear. ride at 43-47kmph.
no idea how the disc will become effective after using. my disc has been quite responsive so far, and don't worry about the vibes at 4k rpm. it will become smooth, and you will hear a unique sweet grunt which will definitely make you love the Yamaha. :-)

on road price was 66924/- at the time of booking , according to the dealer , the waiting period is about a week ,
well this would be my 1st bike , i wanted fresh looks , and not so popular[common] 150cc bikes , SZR looks and some of the reviews like zigwheels one , made me book SZR , hopefully would be the right choice

good
thanks aditya.
i believe the gear shift wil be smooth in a few days frm now. my concern is all about the disc, i feel like there is no disc in the front. it is not even as effective as drum brakes. can i adjust it by any means?
also, the fuel meter is really consusing. it went to reserve on38kms and i could drive only till 71 kms after which it went dry.
(SVC told that the reserve capacity is 2.5 litres
) . i again filled 4.48 litres (300rs) petrol the arrow did not cross the red line. (BTW is too minute to be seen it while riding. i think yamaha shud do something abt it)
at the end of it all... all eyes are on my bike , be it on the road or at office premises.
...i think people are so much used to seeing steroetypes like pulsar and apache on roads and they have a diiferent thing to look at when they see a yamaha.

First off all i am not a szx owner, but feels like you need some help. Congrats for your new bike ,wear a helmet and ride safe.Originally posted by sathish77 View Posthey guys, i got an szr ysterdy after a short wait. after riding it for 35 kms till now, i like to share my views and post my questions here.
As your engine is new, gears will be rough,Engine and Gear smoothness will increase after each oil change. So don't worry about that.1= i am experiencing a rough gear shift though i apply full clutch.

Grunting noise? Didn't get u what you mean2= while crossing a speed breaker, i fell the engine has some grunting noise while revving at 2nd gear. what shud i do?
guess 10km/h distance between each gear is ok,That is 40km/h @4 th gear. try 40-45km/h on 5th gear,If it feels bad, then downshift to 4th gear or increase your speed to 50km/h and continue riding.3= what are the speeds to be maintained in each gear?
Answered above ^^4 =i want to ride at 40-45 kmph as per the manual but i am not sure if i should ride on 4th or 5th gear.
50km/h is safe on running period.

lot better now.
thanx aneesh.
noise on 2nd gear = it resmbles the sound when we ride bike on top gear at 25kmph. i think i have to get the cluth adjusted.
can i fix this disc issue by adjusting the front brake lever?
BTW the gear shift has become a lot smoother now. i calculated the mileage after filling 4.48 litres of gas (using res to res method) which was an awful 26km/l
(i might have followed a wrong method). but i am keeping my fingers crossed to see off the run in period
eager to check mileage after 1st service.
PS : if you observe the red area of fuel metre,u cud see 3 red lines. unlike other manufacturers, arrow touching the red line in yamaha meter does not indicate reserve status. you have to have 5lts of fuel to make the pointer cross red line. the actual reserve mark is the red mark located first from your left side. if the pointer goes below that.. push the panic button immediately because the reserve fuel is very low to take you for at least 45kms.Last edited by sathish77; 06-10-2011, 03:22 PM.

Check the sound after services,May go after services.Originally posted by sathish77 View Postthanx aneesh.

and Always Welcome..
Not fuel tank,Brake Fluid Tank,This one belowso you mean if the fuel tank is empty, it will affect the braking power of discs? can i fix this issue by adjusting the front brake lever?
Air inside this will reduce the performance of disk brake.
Check mileage 2 to 3 times to make it sure,Nothing to worry,Mileage will be low in Run in period.Dont tell this to the Service centre they will play with the carb and will get messed up.Its not an easy task to tune back to stock settings as comapay did.So wait for the services and keep on checking mileage.BTW the gear shift has become a lot smoother now. i calculated the mileage after filling 4.48 litres of gas (using res to res method) which was an awful 26km/l

It will increase day by day.

Please dont take in a wrong way, but your mileage calculation method is pretty incorrect.
My suggestion to you is to fill the petrol above reserve level, as soon as it hits the reserve, fill it up with 1 liter of petrol and ride the bike till it comes to reserve, repeat this practice twice or thrice, sum it up and take out the average of it, it should be your 'approximate' mileage. Also consider loss of fuel due to evaporation.
Cheers!
Congratulations!
Cool pics there!
Welcome to SZ Family. Please keep us posted with your experience of your new ride.
Happy and safe riding. :-)
Hi Dude,, ya am calculating like that only ..after hitting the reserve only i filled 1.5 litres of petrol....
My Mileage Calc :
1) 1.49 litres --> 26.1 kmpl (Indian oil)
2) 1.49 litres --> 34.89 kmpl ( Indian oil)
3) 1.48 litres --> 31.08 kmpl (Bharat)
Now i have filled 9.4 litres in Shell Petrol lets see how much it gives.. sorrry i wil not be able to calculate this time... i am goin to hometown ..i will fill the tank before it hits reserve,,, may be after 2- 3 weeks i will update my mileage...
So guys tell me ... Can i give my bike for mileage tune... some one posted that if we give for mileage tuning svc will mess up the carb...
Then My self start still giving problems.. this time its not due to self motor ,,,its due to battery...
SVC asked me to drive then bat will be charged automaticallly... i drive for the past 2 weeks covered some 250 km... isnt enough??
Can i charge my battery ? or follow what svc says? its very diffcult to start my bike By Pushing.. just feel the pain @ Signal if my bike stops!!!
Kicker is must for SZX !! Service centre guys tellin that they dont have stocks....

Just give your bikes battery to a good battery shop and get it charged,It will cost you less than 50rs.Dont follow SVC for everthing.
