    Sorry for not being active.

Here is an update from me. Calculated mileage exact 50 kmpl very very happy with it.

First Service done last week, and I have ridden bike today after 5 days of service as i was in Pune for job, will be taking my bike to Pune soon.

Pick up is really good if not astonishing.

Its good to see the SZ family is finally growing.

        Hello All,

Update after First Service and 450 kms. The pickup has improved a lot. All the previously mentioned problems are rectified and fixed. Happy with it. Still in run-in period so not ripping my bike yet. I would advice stick to manual and follow what it says and thats it, the bike should be fine. I will be changing oil after 1500 kms.

One thing I noticed after my first service, prior to first service the idle RPM was 1 K in cold condition and 1.5 K when engine is hot. Now after the service I am seeing cold RPM about 700 - 800 RPM and hot RPM to be exact 1000 RPM. Seniors please advice if this is advicable setting for a new bike which has done 450 kms and first servicing. Also advice what will be advantages / disadvantages of having less RPMs.

One more thing to fellow SZian, what is the tyre pressure you are all keeping? Manual says we should keep 29 psi for front wheel and 33 psi for rear wheel. I am keeping 28 psi in front and 32 psi in rear, to have less bumpy ride. Again seniors your thoughts on this?

Gears are still a little hard especially 5th gear when engine is cold, but gets smoother and smoother as engine heats up, not a big deal to be honest as the bike yet to complete 1 K kms. One more note, I havent crossed 50 Kmph and never exceeded 4 K of RPM while I ride the bike.

I will you all posted with progress.

        Cheers!

                thanks melroyal

lsp2310 - I keep the tire pressure as per the manual: 29 front, 33 rear and don't find any instability.

ponsuresh - since she's in run-in (680km so far)i mostly ride her at 50 (3.7-4k rpm). But whenever i rev her up to 58-60,while overtaking and all, i don't find any vibs. She's quite smooth. I feel like revving her up more but i control myself
may be you should ask service guys.

@mods - how about changing the title to [Ownership Thread]: Yamaha SZX/SZR ?

                  Help!

                  Hi everybody!

I am going in for new bike.
I have shortlisted SS125 and SZR.. but little confused in choice.
Can anybody help me list out differences in the two?
                  my considerations are
                  1. Riding Comfort
                  2. Commuting (Navi Mumbai: Panvel to Belapur and city riding: approx 30-40 KM per day) and occassional long ride (not more than 150-200 KMS)
                  2. Fuel efficiency
                  3. Comfort for pillion (mostly sari-wearing, one side riding lady)
                  4. Open chain cover of SS125 - is it too difficult to maintain?
                  5. Gear Shift of SS125 - only toe... does it make any difference over classic Toe-Heal shift
                  6. Price (i think not much difference... )

                  Regards,
                  SEM

I second this thought! Mods can you please rename this thread as "[Ownership Thread]: Yamaha SZ/SZ-X/SZ-R"?

                    Thanks for your patience!

                      Hi friends ...

i am going for SZ-R .. ? i think its price is 62,200k on road . i wanted to know your opinion regarding SZ-R. and it would be my first bike ... i chose it coz the price is good for me and i get a 150cc bike with good mileage and comfort , can be used for long rides too...

Query to the owners of Yamaha SZ, SZ-X, SX-R ?

Q : How is the maintains cost ?
Q : what mileage are you getting ? is the all 3 bikes weight the same ? any differences in the 3 model other then look and disc breaks ?

if i missed anything please also tell me all more about the bikes..

                      thank you

lsp2310 congrats on the bike dude. yeah, i've also heard some screeching noise from the disc a couple of times. i guess it's normal, don't worry.

@all i've just one query. I live in Goa and here at night the temperature drops down to 18 degrees. So in the morning i start the engine using choke, keep it fully down for 15sec, then pull it up completely and keep the bike idle for some 2min before riding her off. And i keep the revs close to 3k for the first 2-3km. Tell me if this technique is faulty, cause i really don't wanna harm her in any way during the run-in.

and one more thing: is it illegal to ride without the saree guard? Well, i wanna remove it.

hey bro nice color and congrats ..even i want the blue ...but mom is like go for black ... i think blue is more cute then black in this model bike .. what you say ? now i am stuck with dad's no ... need to convince hem and if i get a green signal then it will be my first bike ? did you inquire regarding the bike maintains cost ?

@vaish thanks man. won't comment on the colour thing 'cause that's subjective to personal choice.
about the fuel efficiency, i haven't calculated mine, but it'll be 50+ for sure. [company claims 62kmpl]
by maintenance cost if you mean spares cost and all, then IMO Yamaha spares are reasonably priced. And the service guys, atleast here in Panaji (Hassan Motors) are quite active and friendly.
You also get tachometer in SZ-R, and trust me dude it does help in proper shifting of gears, specially during the run-in. ( i upshift at 4k revs and downshift at 2.5k)

                              Update:

After first Service, tried calculating mileage on reserve to reserve to basis, found it to be 46 Kmpl. But I think I am incorrectly checking mileage. My bike was in the parking for 2 full days, with very little around 2.5 liters of petrol in it. In Pune nowadays its all warm days, so I guess my bike lost quite a lot of petrol due to evaporation (Lesser the petrol higher is the evaporation rate)

One more thing to add, my Yamaha Mumbai mechanic told me that after first service the bike mileage will drop and it will be normal after second service. I really dont know how much true it is, but I am seeing it to be happening, anyone faced similar situation like me? Or Am I the only one? :-o

I will try to recalculate the mileage in more accurate way. (The most accurate way is tank full to tank full method :P)

                              Cheers!

                                Mileage Update

                                Hello All,

Checked mileage again, first one was by far incorrect method of calculating mileage. Sorry for that. Also changed the fuel from Indian Oil to HP as I did not find any reliable Indian Oil bunker near my house in Pune that mileage drop might have been result of fuel company change (I am not sure though)

Calculated the mileage in about 2 to 2.2 liter of petrol my bike travelled about 121 kms, mileage calculated upto 55 kmpl! My bike had approximately 1.75 liter of petrol when I did refill of Rs. 150/- (Petrol price / liter = Rs. 63.10/- ). I ride in Pune during morning time at 9 AM to 10 AM and evening 6:30 PM to 7:45 PM, there is heck of traffic at every point at that time and yes I am talking about the Pune City and not the outskirts. This bike is GEM in traffic. Awesome! Very comfortable! My bike have not even completed run in period, Kms done so far 802 Kms. People say dont calculate mileage before completion of run in period 1000 Kms, but I did and I am very happy. And yes first service was already done.

Riding style: I did not exceed 40 Kmph, only once i exceeded 60 kmph as I saw an empty road Never exceeded 4500 RPM rather I had ridden at around 3.25 K of RPM most of the time with 40 Kmph.

Gears are still little bit hard, but when engine heats up the gears become smooth, I know they will be even smoother as I ride my bike. Front disc still gives me annoying sound when I rotate the front tyer when standstill. I will wait till 1500 Kms. First service was done at about 367 Kms. I will be changing oil at 1500 Kms, will be using Yamalube 20W40 mineral.

What happened to other SZians? Where are you all?

                                YES! YAMAHA

                                Cheers!

                                - Lalit
