  • Gear shift paddle change

    Hey guys,
I have done 6500 KMs on my bike till now and wish to change my gear shift paddle to the one with only the front shift lever where in i can put my feet underneath the paddle and shift up. Any pointers to a reliable shop where i can get this done. I'm in Pune.

Simple JUGAD, go to any gas cutting mechanic, he will cut that portion, total cost not come more than Rs.50, but major drawback will come when your front part of shoe will damage quickly, as i still feel paddle of gear (specially from front) is little bit rough. (to provide better grip between shoe & metal)

      • I can get it cut by a mechanic but the current paddle that comes as stock with SZ has a metal plate on front I'm looking for something which is round in front with a rubber on it. Is there any thing in market like this? I inquired with SVC guys but they do not have anything like this.

Bro you are lucky that SZR has heel toe shifter !!! Will save your formal shoes and feets..... my bike has only toe shifter and I am desperately looking for heel toe shifter that fits my bike well !!

Anyway yesterday (24.02.12), I replaced my stocked REAR TVS tube type tire to TUBELESS Tyre of CEAT SPORT (VERTIGO) (100/90x17) of just Rs. 1,200/-.

Actual cost of tire is Rs. 1750/- (inclusive of all like labour and etc.) and he took my old tyre of cost Rs. 500.

Next modification is on mind is to replace stock light with HID kit.. I checked with my local shop (which is known to me since last 8 years) , a HID kit available with blaster and relay only Rs.1200 Rs. that too without cutting of any wire...

He assured me that this modification will done without any cutting of Wire.

                    • Finally I am on two wheels again, I got the delivery of my Yamaha SZ-R(white color) on March 8, 2013.
Its a good bike for its price with decent pick up and pulling power with tried and tested yamaha
engine. I was having 3-4 options in this price range like pulsar 135, discover 125st and honda
stunner but decided to go with yamaha because of following reasons:
1> Pulsar 135 vibrates after 5000rpm and it looks small plus its pulling capacity is not good with pillion rider due to poor low-end torque.
you'll need to down shift again and again in slow moving traffic. It come with only 11nm torque and that to at very peaky 7000rpm.
2> Discover is not at all appealing as far as looks are concerned. Its coming with skinny tires, 2-3 rear mudguards, high raised handle-bar.
3> Stunner looks good and comes with all the features specially tubeless tires but its not powerful like sz-r.

Now come on the pros and cons of SZ-R which i have observed from my experience so far on my friend's and my brand new SZ-R which is 150 kms old:
                      Pros:
1> smooth, refined and relaxed engine.
2> excellent low end grunt. It pulls cleanly from as low 28-30 in 5th and from 20 in 4th gear which is a boon in Delhi traffic.
                      3> Full DC system.
4> smooth n slick gear shifts.
                      5> Good design.
6> white color option with good paint quality.
7> Very good pick up and pulling capacity even with pillion rider.
8> good balance of handling and ride quality with up-right siting position.
9> feels very light weight and nimble.
                      10> VFM product.
11> Best roll-on figures in its class.
                      Cons:
                      1> Below average headlight glow.
2> very poor speedo meter glow.
                      3> No tubeless tires.
4> Torque spread is low on higher rpms which results in poor pick-up after 90kmph. yamaha should have tuned peak torque on 5500-6000rpms
                      instead of only 4500rpms.
5> Average tires with average grip.
6> 12.1 bhp is low for a 153cc engine. 1 bhp more and peak torque at slightly higher rpm would have resulted in better top-end performace.
7> Lack of pass light and engine kill switch.

Check out the engine oil level, if it is going down then take it to SVC. Make sure you visit the SVC and explain your problem in detail, they are people who know better than anyone else.

I had similar issue in 5th gear with RPM above 8-9K, it used to give jerks, but below 7K RPM it was just fine, AFR setting was the culprit.

This is thread isnt dead, because I tried to keep it alive. I was very frustrated just like you due to inactivity in this thread, the truth is, no one bothers to reply to this thread even when you post a genuine query. To seek the attention, I had to report my own post, then so called 'moderators' jumped into this thread to help and they disappeared and so does other owners. This bike carries same engine as FZ, same gear ratio except 5th gear, its just that it is detuned to make 12.1 PS of power makes everyone to ignore this bike / thread. I even tried posting one of query in FZ thread and it was ignored, then I deleted my post from there.

I have said this before and saying it again, this bike is capable of doing much more things than what people think of.

PS: The reason I did not reply to your query to color, because the color choice is subjective. You should choose the color which you like and not anyone suggested.

BTW at 10 service, got the tappet adjusted, it is back to its shape, smooth. Mileage in city between 45 to 50 kmpl.

                            Cheers!

If you are getting 45-50kmpl in city then what are getting on highways ??

Why you bother for others to write anything. If no one replies then look into "help me" section or SVC anytime.

Frankly speaking still FZ is sold more than SZ models. So I think there are less participants.
And Yamaha should have done some better mode then just detuning it.

If you compare P150 performance Vs FZ/SZ then FZ/ SZ loses the war.

Now we all are looking for better options with better packages.

Don't know why Yamaha is not versatile/agile company ??

Here Bajaj and Honda are launching different models but Yamaha thinks he can win the leagues with R15 and FZ only.

Lets see when some better models comes out ?

On highways I dont get that good mileage, as I rip the hell out of the bike in low gears on highways.

Raising help me thread for each and every thing would not appropriate, if I had to raise help me thread for every (noob) problem or (noob) query then whole purpose of having ownership thread blows away. And if raising help me thread is the only option to get the queries addressed then we dont need this ownership thread, & it should be locked.
