Petrol is a combination/mixture of hydrocarbons, which are compounds consisting of Carbon and Hydrogen in varying ratios. When a hydrocarbon undergoes combustion, the products normally are water and COO (COO=Carbon dioxide). However, incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons may lead to the formation of carbon monoxide (CO). By incomplete, I do not mean that fuel is wasted; rather the ratio of fuel being burnt to the amount of air(for simplicity, I assume its just oxygen) being used increases.

The combustion of petrol can thus lead to either COO or CO. The ratio of Carbon to Oxygen in Carbon dioxide is 0.5 to 1 while it is 1:1 in Carbon monoxide. Thus, in the formation of CO, the rate of petrol consumption is higher; or in other words, fuel is burnt faster, leading to more thrusts on the piston in the same time. This would translate to a feeling of greater power for the bike, while simultaneously increasing the amount of CO being ejected out of the exhaust pipe. Under normal circumstances, the emission of CO is kept to a minimum as its a poisonous gas, while COO can easily be absorbed in normal processes like photosynthesis, but that's digression.

Changed the AFR on an R15 with a k&N. Its a stock engine. And the response is much better. Navnish, do u remember that funny bike? LOL
Now, I've just stipped the engine for some engine works. Will assemble tomorrow and probably have a speed check on sunday with my new Speedgun . The bike will be a lot faster than stock.

Just goes to say that the FID helps you by that much in richening the AFR in case of an airfilter mod or say you put some dalda dabba.
