The exhaust is not loud enough to tear ear drums, nor is it too soft. Its very grunty and my key criteria is performance. Looks and sound should only be a part of it, not the priority. Frankly a sexy looking exhaust does not mean it will perform the best, coz for aesthetic reasons, you'll have to make dimensional sacrifices which will effectively tamper the performance goal.sigpic

Great Work!
Great work Joel bro! I'm sure it requires a hell lot of skill to extract more juice from the bike!
Hope your bike is ready soon! Best of Luck bro!
@All: How harmful is the sound a bike (kind of a click from the engine/gearbox) makes while turning the ignition off?
My previous bike had it (courtesy me, of course
), and I 'm almost sure it was because I ended up stalling it a lot many times (learnt biking on it!
). The people at the SVC used to say the sound is normal!
Do any of your R15s make the sound, & how harmful/bad is it for the bike?
Also, can the sound be eliminated somehow?

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Nothing harmful about it. Most of the bikes with electric starters make that sound. Sometimes it doesn't come though-the bike shuts off silently. I don't think its worth doing anything to reduce that sound!Originally posted by tibby View Post@All: How harmful is the sound a bike (kind of a click from the engine/gearbox) makes while turning the ignition off?

True. All pulsars make this tak sound too; after they are turned off.Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostNothing harmful about it. Most of the bikes with electric starters make that sound. The sound is no where from the engine or gearbox. There are baffles inside the exhaust canister which are used to silence the sound waves by creating restrictions in the exhaust gas path. These baffles experience high temperatures(coz of the exhaust gas heat) and as soon as you switch off your engine, they begin to contract. Thats when the tik-tik sound starts. Its very normal and is no where present on a freeflow exhaust coz there are no baffles. Its a straight flow path.Originally posted by tibby View PostHow harmful is the sound a bike (kind of a click from the engine/gearbox) makes while turning the ignition off?
An RTRs pipe makes very little noise coz its not restricted much, but the R15s pipe is quite restrictive.sigpic

If thats the case, then its the self starter clutch which makes a low idle clatter. You stall the engine more than normal coz of low engine idle. Bump the engine idle rpm and its solved. Its nothing harmful anyways.Originally posted by insanebiker View Post^ I think he is talking about the sound he gets while turning off the ignition
In some engines, the sound comes from the de-comp notch on the camshaft. Esp on the RTR/Fiero which makes a tik tik noise below 1200rpm of idle. Its stalls by around 1000-900rpm after the noise comes.
The R15 also has a de-comp assembly, and yes it can give a little clatter at really low revs.
Again the solution is increasing the idle rpm.sigpic

@insanebiker: Rightly said!Originally posted by insanebiker View Post^ I think he is talking about the sound he gets while turning off the ignition,(At that precise moment) and not that which comes while cooling and contracting.
Sarvajith was also querying about the same sound just a few days back!
BTW, I think the sound that Sarvajith was querying was different!
@Joel: I'm talking about the sound from the bike as soon as the ignition is turned off. Its a kind of withdrawl sound which emnates from the engine/gearbox as soon as the bike is turned off (in the next split-second)! The sound prolly lasts for say 0.5 seconds!
