@insanebiker: That is not the sound I was asking about.

Here is something which maybe you can shed some light on Joel:
My R15 has started 'ticking' after even a 1-2 km.ride. The sound comes from the rear disc area, a metallic tick once in every 10 secs. for a few minutes. The mechanic says it is NOT the catcon confirmed. He suspects it has something to do with the disc caliper, but says he will check it next time when he has to change the rear brake pads.

One minor vibration is also irritating me at higher revs. I suspected it could be the engine mount bolts&got them tightened, but it still persists after 6K RPM. Mechanic says it may be from inside the dome, but I get the sound from somewhere near the engine area.

Hope to hear something good from you Joel, as these are things which mechs tend to ignore.

I thought it was more technical dude...if it was performance driven, then only Joel would be writing here, coz no one else has ever tried doing anything to up the performance of the bike.
If over heating&vibrations at higher revs do not affect performance, what does?

In no ways, the issues mentioned by you is gonna affect performance. This is again ownership thread related discussions.
Issues to affect performance will arise only once you have pushed the engine to next levels or if you have done something wrong. In this case of discussion, the engines are stock.
I mentioned in the previous posts only about the probable sounds that can emit from the engine, in a technical way. If its some sound from the wheel or brakes etc and service related, its purely not a technical discussion for us here. I've not heard these sounds on mine and other R15s that I have ridden till date. Pls check with your service sources.

Please spare this thread for only technical and performance related discussions and only about the Yamaha YZF-R15.

The reason why Satyen started this thread is coz technical discussions were over-shadowed with shampoo, cream, polish, tyres, lipstick, stickers, colors, etc topics on the Ownership thread.

I posted this here coz no one was answering it on the Ownership thread.
Anyways, I'll figure it out with my SVC chaps. You mechs can have a ball here trying to improve performance on the R15!

How did the plug read anna? Have you modified the AFR ratio?

Hmm. Its a lot of hard work bro. I understand how you must feel when people ask you for an 'easy step by step method for instant power'

Honour and respect your knowledge and dedication to this. Waiting for the bike test updates......
                You get the point?? :D

Stock plug reads white. Then again you can change the color to whatever you want with the FID coz you can go + and - by upto 30 units. Thats like jetting the engine nearly 3 times lean or rich

Ofcourse my R15 will have a different AFR, else it wont run at all. It'll be too lean to handle otherwise.

How is my plug? The existing plug on my bike is already worn out. I will get a new plug next time I come around! What AFR shud I be running(considering that its gonna be Chennai altitude)?

P.S: Even if it becomes lean, we know how u make it rich!!! Bugger, I just cant stop laughing at ur method(s)....

The AFR will be set considering the chennai humidity wonly. Have been to chennai many many times ffor track affairs, so I know what setting works best there

                      • Awesome
Now that I've started saving up money(cos anything, be it TBR/Yamaha add-on kit/custom tuning requires it), but might take me an year for the required saving for the mods alone... Cos I'm a student, and only 20! Until then, I'm wondering what all can be done to the stock internals.

@Joel: I know how frustrating it is to do the hardwork and then let some person get that all for free in a jiffy..especially when he doesn't even know what exactly he'll get with the mods! I too had situations when the creativity was mine, but others happened to use it off even before I could due to the lack of investment I have, since most of the idiots who lack creativity and knowledge in our country still have the money to "buy" off stuff!

But, at the other side, I'm badly desperate to learn. Learn not just from seeing and listening, but trying. I'm willing to try my stuff on my own bike and won't mind guinea pigging it myself..cos the guinea pigging has to start at some point or the other or I'll never know what's right and what's wrong and remain a stupid for the rest of my life. All I need is some guidance from experienced people like you..please tell me if you're willing!
                        Sunny.

                          • Hey Guyz.. Is removing the catcon affects the low end torque of the bike. If yes, can it be compromised by adjusting the AFR?

                            Please hlp

Removing the catcon helps in overall driveability itself. Navnish has done it, ping him. I dont think u need to adjust the AFR a lot to compensate.
