![]() I was returning back to home from college, in night (around 8:30 PM) on a bridge (Bally bridge, those residing in Kolkata would know as to what I'm referring to), I flashed at a Taxi (ambassador) and overtook it and I was now doing 80 kmph in 5th gear. A man was walking on the footpath, and suddenly don't know why he decided to commit suicide by coming on the road instead of jumping off the bridge into the river, within a flash he was in my lane; as I had just overtook the poor ambassador, I knew that if I jam the brakes then the Indian technology running behind me is gonna hit my bike from back for sure, I honked, applied both brakes in a good manner (thanks to the previous experiences ) and downshifted to 2nd in that duration and steered the bike few feet away in a new line and accelerated, just before accelerating, I could hear the screaming sound due to the hard application of brakes by the ambassador driver and saw into the RVM I thought he is gonna hit me, but thanks to the Honda engineers for providing good low end torque into this machine (Karizma R), I shot the bike in 2nd and rode back home. Later when I reminded about the incident I realised that the man was drunk and I abused govt that why not a ban on drunken walking as well

one day at evening time may be some 7pm was entering the city circle was coming from a small trip.. there was traffic usually at such place from where the city circle starts even because of police checking and all..
i saw in the traffic and was like in hurry to reach home as i had call from mom and i told her i am just near will come in 5 minute though i lied ![]() i had fitted a new KnN on my bike (karizma R) and was in tashan of making vroom vroom sound, as i guess its everyone habit to overtake from the left side when we are in traffic even i did the same.. i made the vroom vroom sound thinking its cool( though it was never ).. taking frequent and unnecessary acceleration and suddenly a "Tata Sumo" without any indicator or sign turned left to drop the passenger and i applied the front brakes and bang slipped on the road was too close to the wheel of that "tata sumo" but luckily i stopped however else it would have " "all people came and started pointing out the driver mistake though it happened for first time ( a biker didnt got pointed out"). they were ready to beat him, but i came conscious and stopped the people.. then went a medical store near by and bought the first aid and aided myself ![]() What i learnt from it :- never ever overtake from left side at any condition.. never try to show off on road, these small small events now made me a sensible biker. what i think no one born as biker we have to learn how to be one.

. And yes, drunken walking on roads should be banned.. Can we appeal to the authorities?? . Thanks to aswinprakash, who reminded me few car accidents, better say it incidents cause nothing happened not even a scratch (*lucky*) though most of them were mechanical failure!! 1. Doing 60 kmph on highway, came across a BAZAAR (why do we have market place on road??!) had to slow down so i applied brake lightly *nothing happened* pressed it harder felt like brake assist is gone kaput!! Tried to jam brakes by standing on it then only i was able to shred some speed but wheel weren't locked. Was feeling like I'm braking with 10th% pressure. Speed was down to 50kmph (meanwhile shifted to 1st gear) . Less than 25meters left to kill all those people!! Now applied the hand brake with full force but again, nothing happened. Started zig-zag'in, hooking, turned headlights.. And waited to hit someone, something Glanced on the speedo its was 25. But still counting down.. Turned the ignition off.. But hell didn't locked the wheels.. Kicked the clutch... Yes!! Momentary wheel lock achieved.. Car stopped. It didn't touched anyone!! Culprit: master brake cylinder developed a leak. 2. Doing 80 highway, took a turn (normal right hander, can be taken at 100 ) rear, right side coil spring broke.. Initiated drift.. I countersteered, it fish tailed.. Got out like a pro. Though, i was scared. 3. Dad was driving, 70 kmph, entered a turn too hot. Car understeered.. Went to the ditch.. Filled with rain water (only 1 feet deep)

Hey guys.Guess we riders do crash at least once or whatever no of times.
Last winters I too managed skidding my one month old ninja n dropping the wifey along with me on a gravel stretch. The rear brakes did contribute to an extent!! Being geared up,we managed with a few bruises here n there. Was a skid at 20 something on the speedo but all the plastics n the clipons etc.. etc ..summed up in excess of 50K . Guess its something with new bikes kissing the ground and me.Last summer after a good ride with the wifey on my new Cb1000R,dropped her home and decided to go for another ride with a fellow biker on CBR1000R.Our regular stretch of deserted road which compliments our soft rubbers too,we finished our speed runs and were heading home when i whacked the throttle. The tacho bars rose up almost to the red along with my front wheel .So far so good until a car in front which was way far stopped suddenly...By the time my front tyre was down ,she was too close and no counter steering could help at that time nor could have braked to avoid contact. After braking hard the speed reduced along with my tyres locking and next moment i'm down!! Suffered bruise on my r.knees .Rest all taken care of. Thanks to my gear.Poor bike though! Lesson learned!!

Hi all,
Today morning while coming to office, I saw a person's corpse in front of TCS Shollinganalur, Chennai. The person was hit by a speeding car and died on impact. As per the witnesses, the man was standing at the far left of the road waiting for a share-auto when a car (a Skoda Octavia - perhaps) hit him while trying to overtake another car. It was chaos after that. I don't know what happened to the driver. I only saw the car from a distance and the dead body covered in white cloth. But, I have lost my confidence. As my office was 5-6 km further (Siruseri), I became extra cautious. My speed reduced to 35 kmph and I simply couldn't dare upshift to 5th! I don't know the person who lost his life, but there is a scare which went deep within. It seems like I don't know anything regarding biking/driving and my life is not safe. Even riding gear (which I wear all the time) won't save me in such circumstances. How to overcome this low-liness? @Moderators - Please don't merge this with the exixting thread - "How accidents changed my life!". Although on similar lines, these are different perspectives. Thanks. |

@ Divya Sharan: It happened to me too when I saw an upside down Maruti 800 and car's various strewn parts on the Ajmer's Dholabhata flyover, where earlier I've had the most lean angles and cornering speeds incidentally. After that, I saw an Ambulance taking away the injured/ dead.
Couldn't ride properly some time after that. It was like, a pain in the chest thinking about it. This was after my right arm fracture so I was further scared as to what could happen to me, specially having a steel rod in my right arm. I was extra cautious though and would not let anything on road closer than a meter to me. I did recover later on as the memory faded and I was sure that I can evade the worst by paying attention to the road. My only suggestion to you is: make this thought your strength. Start riding again and be extra attentive for few weeks, and a bit slower than usual too. Keep an eye for any strange activity ahead or even in the Rear View Mirror every few seconds. With all these measures you'll feel confident that nothing bad will happen to you. Best of luck. |

But let me tell you the after effects of the incident. Today, I was on my way to the office (same road). After crossing the accident spot, I was going staedy at ~45 kmph. A white car (BMW - came to know later) appeared in my RVM. It was at least 50 ft behind. Next second, it goes past me, almost brushing my right leg. ![]() I was lucky enough to have remained on my bike. Later, I saw the car in my office's parking lot. Didn't know you posted this
![]() All this is like passing cloud, you feel low for the moment, but, on longer run, you'll gain your confidence again & start running the same show Most important thing out of such incidents are to LEARN from the mistakes; as the proverb goes (one of my favorites too)... Wise men learn from other's mistake, Normal people learn from their mistake & Fools never realize their mistake Carelessness is the most often mistake that people make; they fail to realize what's going on around them & do not stay vigilant. I'm not advocating that staying cautious helps from all the problems, but, can bring down incidents to a great extent. Anyway, out of the gyan, we all know the fun & thrill lies in the risk, the risk of riding a motorcycle is far more than driving in a car or by bus. But still we do; but again, can anyone guarantee for safety by a car or bus? Heck no!!! Still we drive or even take a flight knowing the fact anything can happen. That's HOPE; a positive hope that we live to see tomorrow. Just fill yourself with positive hope & see the difference...cheer up
