Any conversation that needs to talk about motorcycling in India and the revolution it has undergone in the past 2.5 decades is incomplete without the Pulsar. In the opinion of most Indian motorcyclists, the Bajaj Pulsar is the motorcycle that started it all.
More than that, the story of the Pulsar, Indian motorcycling, and xBhp is also intertwined. www.BajajPulsar.com was the blueprint of xBhp for all intents and purposes. So when Bajaj told the world that they have now sold more than 2 crore Pulsars, we decided that we needed to be a part of that celebration… a celebration worthy of being organised at MotoVilla, our pride and joy.
Before we talk about that, though, let us talk a little more about the Pulsar and our story with it so far. Before Pulsar, motorcycles in India were merely cheap tools for transportation. It was the Pulsar that changed it all for us Indians and brought to the fore what we call ‘motorcycling’ today, and for good reason.
The Pulsar 180 Classic looked muscular and had the performance to complement its design. The result was that it kicked off the Pulsar Mania (pun intended), and the Pulsar ruled the roost when it came to performance motorcycles. That, though, was in the very early 2000s, and while the Pulsar 180 Classic may not be a relevant motorcycle today, it is nothing short of a collector’s treasure. That is why we hunted down one not too long ago and inducted it into the xBhp Garage.
The next big Pulsar was the Pulsar 220F. A semi-faired monster of a motorcycle that held the label of ‘The Fastest Indian’ for a long time after its launch. We all remember the ‘Hunto’, don’t we? The Pulsar 220F became the new king of Indian performance motorcycling thanks to its unique looks and blistering performance.
The next big Pulsar was the Pulsar NS 200. A proper streetfighter this time, the NS 200 was a big departure from all the Pulsars of the time and its design still looks just as menacing as it did when the motorcycle was launched. Nearly 25 horses and tons of torque combined with sublime handling made the Pulsar NS 200 a force to be reckoned with.
Based on the success of the Pulsar NS 200, Bajaj also launched a faired variant of the same, and it was christened Pulsar RS 200. This one also enjoyed immense popularity in the market. Still though, the platforms were getting a little long in the tooth, and the Pulsar needed an overhaul. That overhaul came not too long ago.
Bajaj launched the new Pulsar F250 and N250 to revitalise the Pulsar brand. We reviewed both the motorcycles positively. We were so impressed with the new platform that we took the new Pulsar F250 for a 10,000 km ride around India in the #roadTripUntited2022. With this, we are getting closer to the present time.
The next big thing in the Pulsar lineup was the Pulsar NS 400 Z- the biggest and the fastest Pulsar ever, and that moniker applies to this day. We were invited for a review, and we were instantly impressed with the performance of the motorcycle. More than anything, it was the bombshell of a price tag that made the Pulsar NS 400 Z an insanely VFM product. As is the case with any impressive Indian motorcycle that comes up, we inducted it into the xBhp Garage.
Finally, it is time to talk about the 2 Crore Pulsar Celebration that took place at the MotoVilla. The MotoVilla is a result of passion and hard work, realising a dream. It is the current xBhp HQ, and it is something we are immensely proud of. While it is always going to be an ever-evolving project, the current state of the MotoVilla is as complete as it is going to be. We keep sharing updates from the MotoVilla with the xBhp Community, and a lot of bikers aspire to visit us.
So to celebrate the 2 Crore Pulsar milestone, we held an online contest for Pulsar Maniacs all around India, based on which, we invited a select few for an exclusive invite-only tour of the MotoVilla. While we would have liked to entertain all the exciting entries, and we had a lot of them, we could not for obvious reasons.
The riders that did get to see the MotoVilla, though, were awestruck. From the MotoCafe to the MotoArcade, the MotoVilla is inspired by pop culture and xBhp’s 2+ decade journey in making lifestyle motorcycling mainstream in India. From photos and collectables from the 60+ countries that we have visited to the choicest of machines, the MotoVilla is a motorcycling haven, and the Pulsar Maniacs that we had with us echoed that sentiment.
We also encouraged the Pulsar Maniacs to share their Pulsar Stories with all of us. One of them told us that he had covered more than 1.5 lac km on their Pulsar, while another had their name added in the India Book of Records on their Pulsar while covering the Golden Quadrilateral. One of the Pulsar Maniacs also told us that they have had their Pulsar for around 12 years, and another told us that their motorcycling journey started because of a Pulsar.
Among all these stories and testimonies, one thing was common: their absolute, unshakeable faith in their Pulsars and the brand as a whole. They swear by the performance and reliability of these motorcycles, along with appreciation for the approachable price tags. The celebration was topped off with a cake-cutting ceremony with all the riders celebrating the 2 Crore Pulsar milestone.
The sheer number of Pulsars on the roads is a testament to the work that has been done by Bajaj in establishing Pulsar as a go-to brand for Indian motorcyclists. And with the very strong portfolio that the Pulsar brand has today and the many more to come, milestones like these will come along often for Bajaj. That said, it is no reason to take this achievement lightly, and we heartily congratulate Bajaj and all the Pulsar Maniacs for this achievement.
And here are some more photos from this epic celebration at MotoVilla…
