Toby Price, Red Bull KTM team achieved his second stage win of 2016 Dakar Rally in Stage 5, a ride into Bolivia which reached altitudes above 15,000 feet. It was also the final half of the marathon stage. His teammate, Antoine Meo finished the day second fastest followed by Stefan Svitko in third.
Paulo Goncalves, Team HRC had a tough day, struggling with altitude sickness and despite his 12th place finish on the day and giving up nearly nine minutes, he holds the overall lead with Stefan Svitko in second and Walkner third in the stage ahead of HRC’s Joan Barreda and Rockstar Husqvarna’s Pablo Quintanilla who rounded out the top-five, respectively. Riders were also treated to some difficult navigation in Stage 5—until today navigation has been minimal. Tight terrain and tricky navigation in the latter section of the special stage gave riders a solid challenge.
Sherco TVS rider Joan Pedrero finished the day in 9th followed by teammate Alain Duclos in 10th. The third rider, Florent Vayssade, finished Stage 5 in 22nd position over 14 minutes behind the stage leader.
