BMW Motorrad recently unveiled the new 2019 BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 RT. Both the motorcycles feature an advanced and larger capacity ‘Boxer’ engine and host of other updates meant to make the motorcycles safer, comfortable and ultimately more enjoyable for the rider.
The most prominent update on the engine is the implementation of the BMW ShiftCam Technology which varies the valve timings and valve stroke on the intake side. This results in more power all across the rev range, better fuel-efficiency, lower emissions and more refinement. The capacity of thee engine has been increased from 1170cc to 1254cc which has resulted in an increase in power from 125 Bhp to 136 Bhp and increase in torque from 125 Nm to 143 Nm. A new Camshaft drive has also been introduced which is now a toothed chain replacing the roller chain from the previous models. The new exhaust system of the 2019 BMW R 1250 GS and 1250 RT ensures optimum performance and a thrilling sound.
The motorcycles get 2 riding modes and have ASC (Autimatic Stability Control) and Hill Start Control as standard. The Riding Modes Pro which features additional riding modes, Dynamic Traction Control DTC, ABS Pro (standard in the R 1250 RT), Hill Start Control Pro and Dynamic Brake Assistant DBC is available as an optional equipment item ex works.
Another optional is the item BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA “Next Generation”, damping automatically adapts to the situation according to riding state and manoeuvres, and there is also automatic compensation in all load states. This allows finely tuned adaptation of the motorcycle to riding states, achieving optimum damping comfort and a very stable ride response – this is now also available for the R 1250 RT.
LED headlamps are standard and LED DRLs are available for both the models as an option. The new R 1250 GS now has the equipment feature Connectivity as standard including a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen. In conjunction with the standard BMW Motorrad Multi-Controller, this means the rider can access vehicle and connectivity functions particularly swiftly and conveniently.The R 1250 RT is fitted with a large 5.7-inch TFT colour screen. This is supplemented with an analog speedometer and rev counter. Another important feature is the optional Intelligent Emergency Call which ensures the fastest possible assistance in the event of an accident or any other emergency situation.
