Two Wheeler sales report for the month of July 2016
Yamaha Motor India – Thanks to the rising scooter market in the country, few companies are experiencing good growth in their overall two-wheeler sales this year. Yamaha has registered 12% growth in domestically by selling 65,244 two-wheelers in the month of July 2016. Apparently, these numbers also include their sales in Nepal. Comparatively, Yamaha sold 58,477 units last year in the same month. Yamaha attributes this growth primarily to their latest Cygnus range of scooters – Alpha and Ray-ZR.
Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India – HMSI has registered the highest growth of any two-wheeler manufacturer in India. Their remarkable gearless scooter, Activa, has outsold every other two-wheeler in the country to become the highest seller.
HMSI monthly sales bypassed the 4.5 Lakhs milestone with the exact sales figures of 453,844 units for July 2016. Last year in the same month, HMSI sold 389,555 units. Also, HMSI’s market share in the country grew to 29.1% thanks to their outstanding sales.
Active alone sold over 3 Lakhs unit in the month of July adding to the overall Honda scooter sales of 309,144 units. That’s a rise of 19%.
On the other hand, HMSI’s motorcycle sales grew to 7% with 120,383 units sold in July this year compared to 112,096 sales last year in the same month.
Lastly, HMSI exports registered a massive growth of 33% even though the export sales in general for the industry are at a decline with -15%. Honda exported 24,317 two-wheelers in July 2016.
HMSI Senior VP, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, commented, “July has been a historic month for Honda 2Wheelers India. The new capacity of our fourth plant has given us wings to not only grow faster than the industry, but create 4 records in one month. Crossing the 4.5 lac unit sales mark in July’16 and growing at 21% nearly double that of the total 2Wheeler industry in the first 4 months of FY’16-17 gives us more confidence of a bumper festive season ahead.”
TVS Motor – The Chennai based company registered a total growth of 14% in July 2016 with sales of 248,002 two-wheelers compared to 218,321 units last year in the same month.
Their overall two-wheeler sales grew by 15.4% with 240,042 units in July 2016. In that, their domestic two-wheeler sales rose by 18.7% with 206,605 sales. Their scooters sales were 69,626 for July and motorcycles sales grew by 23% 95,062 sales in July 2016 compared to 77,397 units in July last year.
We also believe that with their latest Apache RTR 200 now on sale, their sales could increase further by the year end, especially during the festive season.
Their three-wheeler sales were 7,960 this year in July while their total export sales were 40,192 units.
Hero MotoCorp – India’s number-1 two-wheeler company reported a growth of 9.13% in their sales by selling 532,113 units in July 2016.
Bajaj Auto – India’s second largest two-wheeler company, Bajaj Auto, registered a total growth of a staggering 20% domestically with a number of 198,022 sales for July 2016 compared to 165,541 in the same month last year. These numbers include their motorcycles and commercial vehicles.
Their motorcycle sales grew by 21% while exports declined by 20%. In India, the company sold 174,324 motorcycles in July this year. Likewise, commercial vehicles were sold in 23,698 numbers growing by 8%.
Royal Enfield – Royal Enfield’s sales figures might not be impressive compared to other companies, but for them, they registered a staggering growth of 31% in July this year. This is massive. The company sold 52,128 motorcycles in July 2016 compared to 39,867 units in July last year. Their export sales also grew by 40% with the sale of 1250 motorcycles.
