JK Tyre Racing Championship Round 3 at BIC (Buddh International Circuit) came to a nail biting finish in front of thousands of spectators who had come from all corners of the National Capital Region to get their dose of speed and action. The crowd roared and cheered as speed freak racers on race cars and bikes fought it neck to neck to take the chequered flag.
The day included 2 races each of JK Racing India Series and JK Tyre-VW Vento Cup and a race each of Formula LGB 4 and JK Super Bike Cup.

There were over 30 riders in the JK Super Bike Cup grid line up. Only in its second year, this category has been a huge hit, particularly among the local boys as well as the audiences. Although there were racers from everywhere, including Mumbai and Jaipur, it looked like a battle between the boys from north defending and the boys from south as the challengers. The liter class was ultimately dominated by the defenders from the north with more than 70% of the top 10 guys being from Delhi/NCR, including the top 3. The winner in the liter class category was Bhupinder Singh on his Yamaha R1, who put up his fastest lap time of 2:03.367 and finished the 7 lap race in 14:29.056 minutes. He was closely followed by Simran Jeet Singh on his Kawasaki ZX10R, who finished 0.649 seconds behind him with his fastest lap being 2:03.488 minutes. Manmeet Singh from Ghaziabad came third on his BMW S1000RR. He finished 14.777 seconds behind the race leader.
Our very own Sunny (MotoGrapher) also participated in the 1000CC category on a DSK Benelli 1130R and finished 11th, commendable effort for someone who is in only his second race. We will write about that in a separate post!
In the super sport category, Vijay Singh (of Rajputana Customs fame) from Jaipur came out as the winner with the overall time of 15:17.684 minutes and the fastest lap of 2:09.907 minutes. Second on the podium was Gurvinder Singh Matharu who finished 2.341 seconds behind Vijay. The third spot was taken by Archit Kumar who was promoted to 3rd as the rider ahead of him, Anand N., was given a 5 second penalty for taking a short cut.
Participating for the very first time in this championship, Triumph Motorcycles’ Daytona 675 and Daytona 675R SuperSports Motorcycles came out with flying colors. The top 3 winners in the 600 cc category of the race emerged as Mr. Vijay Singh, Mr. Gurvinder Singh and Mr. Archit Kumar- all of them on the Daytona 675, which is powered by a 3-cylinder liquid-cooled, 12-valve, DOHC, in-line 675cc engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Both front and rear KYB suspension are fully adjustable and come with low- and high-speed compression damping adjustment.
The race had to be stopped midway and restarted due to a bad accident in the first lap of the race at turn 1.
In the cars category, Vishnu Prasad & Constantino Peroni won a race each in the JK Racing India Series (fought on JK FB02 cars powered by BMW bike engines). Rohit Khanna from Delhi took the chequered flag in the Formula LGB 4 category. And finally in the JK Tyre – VW Vento Cup, Karminder Singh and Anindith Reddy took away the top honors.
A foot tapping performance by the popular DJ Sumit Sethi and his explosive crescendo band kept the audiences dancing with their explosive music ‘on the wheels’ as did the car and bike stunt shows.
The racers will again return to BIC in a month’s time for the last and final round of the 18th JK Tyre Racing Championship on November 28-29, 2015.
Though the race ‘festival’ came to end yesterday, to me it felt like a new beginning of motorsports particularly in this part of the country which has been kept away from motorsports action all these years. If you ask me, this is what India needs at this stage more than the MotoGP/WSBK level events if it wants to produce world-class racers. These ‘smaller’ events are what will lay the solid foundation for a strong future tomorrow. Also heartwarming to see was the response from the audience who filled up the grand stand. They were cheering the racers each time they entered the main straight on the BIC and made the entire atmosphere lively. An active crowd support apart from the basic infrastructure is what will sow the seeds of a racing culture in this country, which it needs badly.
Our sincere thanks and best wishes are with the racers and everyone in the organizing team and FMSCI and BIC who made it a grand success.
