Polaris India said that they will start 6 new showrooms in India this calendar year. This is in an attempt to increase the sales by 50% and grab a 15% market share in the country.

Indian Motorcycles operates in the 1200cc+ segment where it intends to increase its market share to 15%. Currently this segment sees 1000 unit sales per year, which is dominated by Harley Davidson, Suzuki Motorcycles and Triumph. Indian wants a bigger share of the pie and hopes to increase sales by 50% by the end of the year. Currently Polaris has a 10% market share.

The new showrooms in India will be set up in Kochi, Pune, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Indore and Goa.  Currently the company has showrooms in Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. At the Auto Expo 2016, Indian Motorcycles revealed the Indian Roadmaster Blue Diamond and Indian Chief Classic Pearl White. The Indian Roadmaster is the most expensive of the range of motorcycles that the company sells in India and it retails at Rs 38 lakh.

Pankaj Dubey, Polaris India, Managing Director, “Currently, we enjoy 10 per cent of the 1,000 units per annum super premium bikes in the 1,200-cc category. We have set a target of growing our sales by 50 per cent this year and the market share to 15 per cent from the present 10 per cent,”

“The market is too low now and does not justify local assembly. Also, we don’t have local spare-parts suppliers, which in fact is the biggest hurdle. Importing all parts and assembling here therefore makes no sense,”
