Embarking on a motorcycling roadtrip from the chaotic streets of Delhi to the serene landscapes of Palampur in Himachal Pradesh was something that I had been planning for a very long time. And on one rather cold night in February, over a casual video call with my old biker friends and xBhpians, Manik & Salil, the plans were finally cemented and we decided to hit the mountain roads before the start of summer.

My steed of choice for this ride was one of xBhp’s prized possessions- the TVS Apache RR 310. The fact that the Apache RR 310 is a heck of a looker is unanimous. But in the unmissable Castrol POWER1 livery; white and green with splashes of red- it looks even better and one of a kind in the country. With the destination and the motorcycle set, I waited for the day we planned to start the ride; a wait which was a rather short one in the real world but a long one in my mind.

As usual, the night before the ride was kind of sleepless; not sure if it was the excitement of the ride to the mountains or the new bike, but the D-day cometh and we hit the roads at 4:30 am while half the country was still asleep. And we made good progress to have our breakfast with the rising sun at Karnal.

The road from Delhi to Palampur presented a mixed bag of challenges and delights. While the initial stretch offered smooth highways and relatively easy riding, the commercial nature of the route meant a lot of traffic and hardly any place along the way where we would want to sit and relax. The only saving grace was the good quality tarmac and wide roads all the way to Palampur.

But whether we were riding on open roads or through dense traffic, Castrol POWER1 ULTIMATE 15W50 made sure that our Apache RR 310 never missed a beat. It kept the engine cool, smooth and responsive throughout this stretch.

As we ventured further into the journey, the terrain began to morph, transitioning from bustling cityscapes to picturesque countryside vistas. Rolling hills and verdant landscapes stretched out before us, punctuated by occasional twists and turns that added an element of excitement to our ride.

Arriving in Palampur, we were greeted by the tranquil beauty of the Himalayan foothills, a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of urban life we had left behind.

We reached our destination well in time to enjoy majestic views of the sun setting behind the Dhauladhar range from the rooftop of our homestay while sipping the piping hot lemon tea. Our accommodation, a quaint homestay perched atop a hill and managed by a retired army man, offered the perfect respite for weary riders like us. Surrounded by breathtaking views and warm hospitality, we felt truly at home amidst the mountains.

Our next 2 days in Palampur were characterized by aimless wandering and adventure. Venturing out into the town, we found ourselves meandering along winding roads and hidden pathways, each turn revealing a discovery or an unexpected vista. Whether it was stumbling upon a hidden waterfall or indulging in local delicacies at a roadside eatery, every moment was infused with a sense of wonder and excitement.

We hit some unpaved roads, which were still under construction, as suggested by the villagers. And that was one of the highlights of this trip. The steep climbs and the broken roads meant the ride and the rider had to be at the peak of their game. The TVS Apache RR310, powered by Castrol POWER1 ULTIMATE engine oil, showed no signs of stress or fatigue; and in fact, it seemed eager to give an adventure touring motorcycle a good run for its money.

That was the case throughout our journey as the performance of the RR310 remained steadfast, a testament to their reliability and endurance. Even as we tackled challenging terrain and navigated through endless traffic, the bike stood its ground, its engine purring contentedly thanks to the superior protection offered by Castrol POWER1 ULTIMATE 15W-50 engine oil.

As we reluctantly bid farewell to Palampur and began our journey back to Delhi, we carried with us memories that would last a lifetime. From the thrill of the open road to the bonds forged through shared experiences, our adventure left an indelible mark on our hearts. As we rode into the sunset, our spirits buoyed by the camaraderie and companionship of the road, we knew that the memories of our journey would continue to inspire us for years to come.
