Piaggio India is all set to launch the Aprilia SR150 in India in August this year at an introductory price of INR 65,000. The cross over sports scooter was first unveiled in India during the 2016 Auto Expo in February.
The Aprilia SR150 has been designed and engineered in Italy and will be manufactured at Piaggio’s state of the art Baramati plant.
Shedding light on the opportunity the company sees for the Aprilia SR 150 in India, Stefano Pelle, CEO, Piaggio India said, “Piaggio India is once again set to carve out a new category in the premium two wheeler segment with the Aprilia SR 150. Aimed at catering to the desire of the discerning youth of India, this innovative cross over Sport-Scooterbike is designed to appeal to those looking for the sensation of sports bikes and the convenience of automatic scooters in their daily city commute”.
Piaggio Group Chairman and CEO Roberto Colaninno said in a statement.
“After the success of the Ape and the positioning of the Vespa in the premium segment of the Indian market, we are further strengthening our offering in the subcontinent with the entry of Aprilia’s SR150 scooter.”
Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd (PVPL) Managing Director and CEO Stefano Pelle said: “We have received a favorable response to all our launches in the country and with the launch of the Aprilia SR 150, we aim to increase our footprint across the geo(graphy).”
Powering the Aprilia SR150 is a150cc single cylinder motor which seems to have been borrowed from the Vespa 150.
Aprilia SR150 bookings will commence shortly and the sports crossover scooter will be available nationwide at Piaggio India dealership.
