Riding a motorcycle is not just a mode of transportation; it’s a dynamic art form, a passionate love affair with speed that requires continuous skill refinement. This refinement comes from experience and guidance. Experience is something you gain as you spend more and more time riding. Guidance, well, it is the cheat code where you get to learn from the masters in the art of speed on two wheels. We have had a lot of experience in this realm, but to our fortune, we got our hands on perhaps the best cheat code around!

Recently, we got an exhilarating opportunity to attend the California Superbike School (CSS) held at MMRT Chennai. As we mentioned earlier, guidance is something that can take you a long way. It can refine years of muscle memory that helps us control a motorcycle and also, erase years of habits that are, to put it mildly, not the right ones.

Moreover, on the racetrack, we could learn the art of cornering, going faster and safer, lap after lap. Our experience was not just about riding; it was about mastering the art of cornering under the guidance of renowned international coaches. And it was made possible by Vredestein Tyres, a brand dedicated to promoting biking culture and making India a safer place to ride. So with our Kawasaki Z900 and Ducati Monster 821 shod with Vredestein Centauro NS tyres, off we went!

“The Vredestein Centauro NS offer confidence-inspiring grip in all kinds of corners; from tricky chicanes to long flowing corners, thanks to the profile and the fantastic edge grip they offer.”

Over the weekend spent at MMRT, we learned a whole lot about riding a motorcycle; braking into the corners, negotiating the corner with the maximum possible speed, hitting the apex, and charging out of the corners. It was like being introduced to a whole new world; an eye-opening experience that shed light on some of the common habits that we have developed over the years but are detrimental to riding.

“Whether it is a holeshot of a launch from the line or dropping the anchor hard in preparation for a particularly sharp corner, you can always rely on the grip on offer with Vredestein Centauro NS tyres.”
One of the key takeaways from the CSS was the understanding that cornering involves at least eleven interconnected aspects. These aspects, when executed correctly, contribute to a seamless cornering experience, distinguishing confident riders from busy riders. The school emphasized the importance of mastering each element for a fluid and controlled ride through corners. The result was improved skill and tons of confidence regardless of the kind of corner that we worked with.

The CSS program was meticulously structured, dividing the days into classroom sessions, on-track experiences, and debriefings. We had the privilege of progressing through three out of the four coaching levels in just three days, delving into the intricacies of cornering.

In Level 1, we laid the groundwork for our cornering skills. Throttle control, turn points, quick turns, and rider input (floppy elbows) were dissected, emphasizing the importance of precision in every move. The two steps of the corner became the building blocks for the days ahead.
Moving to Level 2, the focus shifted to reference points and the transition from two steps to three steps of a corner. Wide view, wide view transitions, and brake release were also explored to enhance control.
Level 3 elevated our understanding by delving into advanced techniques such as body positioning, knee movements, hip flicks, and hook turns. These techniques not only contributed to maintaining stability but also provided additional methods to defy physics and tighten lines in corners.

“The result of the third collaboration between xBhp and Axor, TheNineteen builds upon the qualities of the Axor Apex helmet augmented by stunning graphics and a beautiful message for the younger generation.”

“A major step forward in the Apex series, the Axor Apex Carbon is the pinnacle of head-protection technology and a heck of a style statement!”
Vredestein Tyres: A Performance Review
Our Kawasaki Z900 and Ducati Monster 821 both were shod with Vredestein Centauro NS tyres, which underwent rigorous testing on the track over three intense days. The performance can be summarized through a detailed point-wise review:
Grip: The Vredestein Centauro NS tyres exhibited exceptional grip, providing confidence-inspiring traction even in aggressive cornering manoeuvres.

Stability: The stability of the tyres, especially during high-speed cornering, was impressive. The bike felt planted, allowing for precise control and line execution.

Feedback: The tyres provided excellent feedback, allowing us to feel the road surface and make necessary adjustments. This direct communication enhanced our overall riding experience.

Wear Resistance: Despite the hard riding over three days, the Vredestein Centauro NS tyres showcased commendable wear resistance, maintaining their performance throughout the duration.

Heat Management: The tyres efficiently managed heat buildup, ensuring consistent performance even during prolonged on-track sessions

A lot learned and a lot to learn
Throughout the experience, the rider was protected with BBG Riding gears, and our own trusted reliable xBhp Axor #iNineteen helmet for that safe and enjoyable riding experience.

As we conclude our journey with Vredestein Tyres at the California Superbike School, it’s essential to emphasize that the skills acquired on the track should be utilized responsibly on the streets. While the track provides a controlled environment for learning and pushing limits, the streets demand a different kind of responsibility.

In the end, it’s not just about mastering corners; it’s about fostering a love for riding that lasts a lifetime, ensuring each journey is both thrilling and secure.
