BMW G 310 R based GS version has been spied in Italy. Expect the single cylinder engine to be in the same state of tune as it is in the G 310 R which means 313cc producing 34 PS of power and 28 NM of torque. Also, the chassis appears to be the same as well. However, rest of the motorcycle is completely redesigned in the same mould as the company’s rest of the GS lineup.
As per the images shared by Motociclismo. The seat remains the single piece unit for the rider and the pillion and there’s also a separate carrier at the back. It might come as an accessory though. The fuel tank has been redesigned with extensions that look similar to those in the R 1200 GS. Ground clearance is visibly higher and so is the front suspension travel at least.

Another interesting observation is that while the alloys are the same design as the ones in the G310 R, the front looks bigger. It could well be 19 inches in diameter. Lastly, tyres are dual purpose.
The motorcycle looks production ready and we believe based on the timing of this news, BMW might unveil this motorcycle at Intermot. This is an educated guess on our part.
If launched in India, it will compete directly with Royal Enfield’s Himalayan. What’s going for the G310 GS is BMW’s immense experience in the Adventure category while Himalayan is Royal Enfield’s first such motorcycle (a very capable one though). Yet, Himalayan has spoke wheels which makes it more off-road worthy than the smaller BMW and comes at a great price point which BMW won’t match.
Having said that, it will be great to have more and more Adventure bikes in the smaller category as they are much cheaper, manageable and affordable to keep.
