After capturing the Moto3 World Championship and becoming race winners in Moto2 as a part of the Aspar team, CFMoto has unveiled a V4 engine. This might not only be a hint towards a possible superbike but potentially… a stint in WSBK!

The CFMoto V4 named V.04 is a 90-degree V4. The details at the moment are scarce but what is out there is that it will make 209 hp at 14,500 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 12,500 rpm. Another impressive aspect is the weight of the CFMoto V4. At 61.5 kilos, it is going to be a very lightweight mill and this will aid CF Moto in keeping their superbike light… if there is indeed one on the cards.

The CFMoto V4 also employs another neat trick. It features a counterrotating crankshaft. It is a technology employed in MotoGP and in terms of road bikes, was seen first when the Ducati Panigale V4 was first launched. It helps in enhancing the agility of a motorcycle by counteracting the gyroscopic effect of the wheels. Quicker turning means quicker lap times and that is something CFMoto could use in WSBK… if there is indeed a stint on the cards!

At the moment there is a lot of speculation and apart from a caricature, there is no motorcycle in sight that has the CF Moto V4 nestled within it. If we take a look at the timelines, CFMoto introduced their three-cylinder 675cc engine around a year ago and this year, they have brought to EICMA two motorcycles that employ that particular triple; 675SR-R and 675NK. Based on just that piece of information, we can expect a motorcycle based on the new V4 by next year. Motorcycle development takes time and a year is not enough but if CFMoto pulls it off… it’ll be a pretty mean feat!
