According to a news report foreign tourists will not be allowed to ride their motorcycles and cars in Thailand anymore. This means that people wanting to ride from the recently popularized route, from India to Bangkok will not be able to enter the country anymore. At least not on their own motorcycles!
The reason given by the Land Transport Department Chief Sanit Phromwong for banning outside vehicles is that they cause ecological harm and also frequent accidents. But this isn’t quite a blanket ban, certain type of vehicles will be allowed in certain areas for a specified period of time.
This rule seems to have been made for the Chinese tourists who drive into Thailand often enough. These tourists will not be allowed into Thailand in their own vehicles in future.
Only vehicles with 9 seats and pickup trucks with a max weight of 3500kg will be allowed to travel within the country.
Some vehicles will be allowed to enter by taking prior permission 10 days in advance through a recognised tour operator. Whether motorcycles can enter in this manner or are motorcycles banned completely is unclear as yet!
Recently we had bikers ride from India to Thailand on two wheels:
