Moto GP organizer, Dorna, has provided one bodyguard each to Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo for the racing weekend in Mugello, Italy.
It is being done to provide the two riders with extra security from the Rossi fans. Hilarious!
Regular spectators of MotoGP would know that Rossi had a fallout with Marquez at Sepang last year where the Italian accused the Spaniard of sabotaging his championship. Following that, Lorenzo’s thumb down gesture for Rossi after the Sepang race didn’t go down well. Since then, a certain section of the crowd and Rossi fans have been booing Lorenzo and Marquez.
Given that the next race is in Italy, there would an incredible number of Rossi fans and Dorna feels that it is a good idea for Marquez and Lorenzo to have extra escorts.
Helios Xaudaro, Event Director for Dorna Sports, commented, “We have asked the German company that provides us with security personnel for access to two more employees. Lorenzo and Marquez will also both have a bodyguard who will be prepared and will have a green light to act if the situation requires it.”
Both riders have been advised to keep a low profile in Mugello which appears like a bit of a stretch. However, it has been said that Marquez has declined to have any extra security guard.
