Maverick Vinales has claimed his first MotoGP victory at the British MotoGP round at Silverstone Circuit riding for Suzuki. This was Suzuki’s 1st MotoGP win after its comeback in the premier class, as it has not won a race since Chris Vermeulen at Le Mans in 2007.
The race was restarted as it was red flagged after the first lap crash of Pol Espargaro, Yamaha Tech 3 and Loris Baz, Ducati. The Spanish rider got the front row start and didn’t look back, pulling away to win by more than 3 second lead.
The British rider Cal Crutchlow finished second on the home ground, 3.5s from Vinales and just 0.583secs ahead of Valentino Rossi. After a fierce battle with Rossi and Crutchlow, Marc Marquez ran wide while trying to overtake Crutchlow’s bike and ran wide enough to lose two positions. He ended up crossing the finish line in 4th.
Overall, the Silverstone race was probably the best race of the season for a variety of reasons. A new winner in Maverick Vinales, a confident Cal Crutchlow taking 2nd in his home Grand Prix and Valentino Rossi coming in 3rd after a fierce battle with Marc Marquez.
We have had 7 different winners in the premier class so far, who would have thought of this at the beginning of the year!
