Royal Enfield suffered an 11,200 unit production loss due to the Chennai Floods according to Eicher Motors.
Both of Royal Enfield’s plants in Thiruvottiyur and Oragadam were shut down due to the Chennai floods since the 1st of December resulting in this loss. The company re-started production on the 7th of December, but due to the difficulties sustained by workers and parts suppliers, the plants are working at 50% of capacity only. From next week onwards, 100% production capacity is expected, stated Eicher Motors.
There has been no damage to the equipment in the plant or to any of the workers, stated the company, though full assessment of damage will be done once normalcy returns. More than 7000 unit production loss was suffered in the 6 days that the plant was closed while another 4000 unit production loss is expected due to absenteeism and inadequate parts supply.
