These are a few xBhpians who like you have taken up cycling recently. You can contact them if you wish - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/bicycles...et-thread.html

But since you are in Bangalore, the cycling capital of the country, am sure you will bump into countless groups of cyclists. From hardcore MTBers, roadies to the casual weekend rider.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

There's a whole bunch of friends I have in Bangalore, but most of them are proper Roadies . You can try Bangalore Bikers google group there you have riders of every level and various local groups are plentiful. Congrats on your new bike.

Friend this is not about the BHP here in Cycling... it's all about HLLP - Heart Lung Leg Power

Almost thought I saw HELP instead of HLLP But yes I get the idea. Its fun to ride in the tarmac, in the rains and hopefully soon enough in the open roads and hills.

                        Hi,
I am 5.11 inches with weight around 70kg. I want to buy hybrid bicycle next month in Pune. I am currently going through bike shops, online forums and resources. Currently I have Adler Green Battle which is basic mountain bike. I ride generally on road on weekends anywhere around 20-40km range.

Reason for buying new bicycle: Green Battle is short for my size. I have already raised saddle and handle bar to max possible height. Still I can touch both feet completely to ground. I feel knee pain after 20km plus rides. So I want to upgrade to hybrid. I enjoy cycling and want to go further. If required in future I can modify green battle(replace handlebar, saddle and suspension) for off road trail.
Intended usage: Only on Tarmac. Morning Fitness/joy rides (upto 10KM) and weekend rides (30KM plus and above ...Gradually want to reach 100KM plus)
Features expected: Rigid fork, straight handle bar, Alloy body, Quality components for price range.
                        Price Range:30-40K
Shortlisted Bikes with price tag(in no specific order): Merida Speeder 100 (41K), Cannondale quick 5 2015(39K), Lapierre shaper 100 (37K)

I am yet to check Merida and Cannondale in shop. I can get quick 5 on rent, so I can practically test ride it.

                        My questions are as follows
                        1. Which of these would you buy if you were at my place?
                        2. Considering some discount from Shopkeepers, do you think Cannondale quick 4 (currently at 44K) is VFM if I get it around 41K?
                        3. Lappiere shaper seems to have good components. How good is it compared to others? also It does have plane tiers? I think it would be pretty risky to ride on it in rains? If I have to buyback tiers (with dealer) which ones should I buy?
                        4. I already have helmet. Apart from lock and bottle holder which accessories should I buy initially?

                        Thanks in Advance

Though i can imagine your cycle is small for you. But the method of checking bike size is incorrect. Whether or not you can touch your feet to the ground is immaterial with regards to bike size.

Can you share a picture of your bike. From your description it appears that the Green Battle is NOT an MTB but a BSO!

The Quick 5 is a tried and tested bike, you will find many reviews of this bike online. Merida is known for being VFM, while the Lapierre makes good bikes from what i have seen.

                          1. Buy any of the three bikes, on whichever you get the best deal/ fits well/ looks good.

                          2. Buy the best bike you can afford, you won't regret spending the extra monies later.

                          3. Plane tiers? I am not sure what that means!!!

                          4. Gloves, jersey, shorts, headlight, tail light and maybe mudguards would be good to start off with!

I have attached image of Green Battle. I am not sure to which category it fits in.

For lapierre by plane tiers I mean that tiers without any grip elements. They are good for speed. But I fear it would be hard to ride on them in rainy season. Do you agree?

                              This be BSO yo

I assume you mean slick tyres! Nope, no problems with riding slicks in the rain, provided it's on tarmac. Read this for better understanding - Tires with Smooth Tread by Jobst Brandt
