I have been following Quikr/OLX bicycles section, and all this while (over a month), I have seen hardly any one selling a Hybrid, those few of them who have posted there are selling a MTB like 99% of times.
That is why was thinking of compromising at start and later when I realize my need, directly going for a new one.
Then buy the MTB, put narrower tyres and get rolling. Just make sure the size is right, even if you have to spend a lil extra. You wouldn't need to buy a Hybrid, once you put narrower tyres on the MTB. The difference is minimal.

And if nobody is willling to lend you their bike to ride, then you don't have the right kind of friends

    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Also try to get an MTB with supsension that can be locked out.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

I guess, you are not aware of the Surrounding then. There are plethora of them. :P . There are other Forums than OLX/Quikr where the good bikes are sold. I hope you might be aware of it.

If you really prefer Hybrid : The Bianchi entry level Hybrid, costs ~19-20K, which i guess, is OK type, and not the best. Increase the Budget, yeah, you might get lot of options then. Schwinn being the favorite.

If you prefer MTB (for that general commute and weekend adventures on Trails ) : New Trail6 , RR5.3, Mongoose,GT etc are few options in these.

Dont compromise on Budget, if you are really looking for long term on ownership.
Moreover, Buying a new one, and riding it, has a different feeling, I must tell you.

What's your intended usage?? Is it for road use or off road?? If you write all those details, you will get better guidance. If you are asking about the bikes mentioned there, what I will do is just toss a coin and decide

As Rx said, we need to first know what you want, to be able to tell you what would be suitable for you.

None of the bikes are worth buying. If you are looking at firefox then look at this and this.

Its better that you get a hybrid one. At this budget I can think about only the act110 from Hercules.

Hi fellow cyclists, need help. I am planning to purchase a bicycle. I will be using it mainly for fun and going to gym. My budget is around Rs. 15000. I have shortlisted Hercules ACT 110 and Firefox Rapide 21s (haven't seen Rapide 21s in person yet). ACT 110 looked good. How's Rapide 21s as compared to ACT? One thing that I did not like in ACT 110 is that it has three wires going on the top rod of the frame. I was planning to install a child seat in that area to take my daughter on some short rides with me but because of those wires on ACT 110, that does not look like possible. Any workarounds for that? I am planning to visit Jhandewalan soon to check out other options (for cycles as well as for child seat options on ACT 110).

Please suggest if there are any other good bikes in that range. If not, please let me know if there's any way to install child seat on ACT 110.

If you are planning to put a child seat on the bar, then buy a Hero Jet. DO NOT put any such thing on these new age bikes, you will be endangering your child's and your life.

Try the Rockrider series, any one of which comes in your budget. Between the two options stated, the ACT would be better.

You might even get a schwinn or something, older model if in stock.

Thank you The Monk. Are these new age bikes so fragile that they cannot carry additional 12-15 kilos? It would really be great fun to have my daughter with me (she is 2 and a half years old), so if there's any option, I would love to try it. How about those big plastic child seats with leg extensions that are bolted to the handle?

From what I could gather over internet, RockRider is not available in Delhi. Do you know of any shops in Delhi/NCR that sell RockRider?

I saw RR being sold in Cyclofit, Ghitorni.

Modern cycles are built to purpose, they are not the heavy steel frame cycles like the hero jet, on which i have seen people carrying 100kg sack of grain. These bikes are light weight meant to take load only on the pressure points that they are designed for. Purpose bikes these are, and carrying a kid on a bike, is not the purpose of these bikes

Personally, wouldn't recommend child on bike. Rest your call.

Hi fellow cyclists, I appreciate the content on this thread. I need help in finding a good bike. My primary usage will be city rides. My budget is around Rs. 15000-20000. I have shortlisted below hybrid cycles:
                              1) La Sovereign 26 Cross Track 24 Speed.
                              2) 2014 Montra Blues 1.1

Since I don't get much choice in Hybrid bikes I am also considering below MTB:
                              1) Rockrider 5.2
                              2) La Sovereign 26 Red Line 24 Speed
                              3) KHS Alite 150.

Please suggest if there are any other good bikes in that range.

From the list the Alite 150, and Rockrider 5.2. If you are in Bangalore try Venky from Wheelsports, really good guy, am sure he will be able to sort you out with a good hybrid and give you a sweet deal as well.
