My suggestion is go for a cycle which can be used for your needs. Most of us think having a dual suspension cycle will help in tackling obstacles, but all it does is increase the overall weight of the cycle unless you have downhill runs, Monk would agree on this since for offroad he has a very good setup.

@Monk - I love that hardtail setup, it is very practical for day to day cycling requirements.

I own a Firefox Target Dual Disc - I disagree on the part where Vbrakes are better, trust me they arent even close to disc brakes. I remember cycling to Khadakwasla dam in rains, and boy those discs were amazing.

Also, these are regular discs unlike hydraulic, the ones found on highend bikes. Attaching some pics.

I can assure you that good quality V brakes are just as good as discs. Firefox brakes both V and discs are not really something to write home about.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Agree on this front that their not as better as hydraulic disc brakes would be in real time performance, but overall i found them quite good. Also, you would have more downhill experience than me since you have tested them more on different types of terrains. Lastly, disc pattern worked quite well for me during rains and small rides to the hill in slush and mud.

Like I said earlier. The biggest benefit of discs are in slush and mud. The biggest advantage of v brakes are that they are much lighter. It depends on the requirements of the rider.

Oh btw those were some lovely pics you put up.

Thanks "Monk" and "Eshan" I picked up a 2011 Trek 4500D, luv it so far.

Done about 30km so far, the bike makes it effortless on uphills, fly overs !!!

Issue is the Top 2 gears makes sound when pedalling, have not had a chance to figure that out. Also left pedal makes a loud creeking sound, need to get that checked as well.

Will update once i get it checked.
            1) 1999 Suzuki Samurai
            2) 2005 Bajaj Pulsar DTSI 180 (G2)
            3) 2007 Baja Pulsar DTSI 200
            4) 2008 Yamaha Gladiator 125cc
            5) 2009 Yamaha YZF R15
            6) 2009 Honda CBR600RR, Phoenix Edition
            7) 2011 Ducati Monster 796
            8) ???

Congrats. Post some pics as well.

Which top two gears. I assume it is a 24 speed bike, with 8 behind and 3 ahead.

Make sure you fit your bike perfectly before you start riding long distance. Also ride carefully in the beginning, if you are not used to discs on a cycle you might brake too hard. And even on the cycle a 60:40 or 70:30 braking pattern should be used.

              Cheers!

Yeah, you are rite about the TOP Gear.

Cool, just like in car/motorcycles, I was using less disk/slowly to BREAK THEM IN.... tried them once on full power and they were comparable with my motorcyle as far as the feel.

If gears no. 3.7 and 3.8 are making a noise, then check if the same thing is happening on 2.7 and 2.8. If that is the case then get the Rear Derailleur adjusted. The pedal probably needs oiling or greasing or something.

                          • i bought the decathlon 7trail yesterday from a wholesale dealer in yalahanka
it is exactly same as the rock rider 5.0 but minor changes like the stickers and tire but has better brake levers according to him.
the price of this was 8300/-
below are the pics of the bike

please share your thought on this bike because i had no idea about this previously but he assured it is a better bike than rock rider 5.0 and rr5.0 is also manufactured from decathlon and they are stopping the production of rr5.0 and will sell this product from now on.
Is this a good buy ?

                              Hey Congrats.

Good buy. The bike is looking good in the pics. Now just make sure that you fit the bike to your body dimensions properly, so that you can ride long without injury.
