    I think 15 bhp is more than enough, atleast for Pune. I think people don't understand that motorcycles are machines, and machines have a load requirement and you choose the machine based on the load requirements. So i think a 15 hp machine should be good enough given the load conditions that the engine would be subjected to.

    This is just my opinion, not a scientific analysis. Ofcourse noone will stop anyone from driving a 700 hp motorcycle which weighs 100 kilos and is sweet to handle.

    My main point is that why does only 200+ cc motorcycles get all the gizmos (exception is the YZF15, but is it really built for the city streets?).

      And why 15 is ideal? Why not 10? Why not 5?
      And if I may ask...as the population increases along with chaotic traffic, do we bring down the PS ?

      On a serious note, don't you feel PS is subjective?

        I guess its not as much about restricting Bhps as about riding responsibly. Here in Bangalore, i see a lot of modded 100 odd cc bikes flying around like bullets. wheelies, stoppies, no helmet, loud pipes, shearing the traffic like a hot knife through butter, and kissing the tarmac once in a while. Threat to themselves and others on the road, and all that within 15 odd bhps. Bangalore also has a great riding culture with lots of riding clubs of various types, and riders riding bigger cc and higher bhp bikes with responsibility.

        Would second pradeepa on the low end torque. Hate frequent shifting of gears in our city traffic scene. Hoping the Duke fares decently on this front.

            The KTM makes the CBR feel heavy, slow to turn though in engine performance the KTM feels likes it accelerating slower than the CBR.             When any new bike is introduced the media is all excited and hence the above reviews... It has happened right from the first version of Pulsar back in 2001...

            The official company claim of KTM for Duke 200 is 0-60 in 3.33 secs, 0-100 - 9 to 9.2 secs and a top speed of 135kmph

            CBR is tested with the GPS system with figures like this 0-60 in 3.5 secs, 0-100 - 8.9 secs and a top speed of 145kmph!!

            The tested CBR is an ABS version which is 6kgs more than the comparable non ABS version. Therefore with the non ABS version the figure would be even better!!

            You yourself can compare the claimed figure to the tested figures to know the difference!!!

            Duke with an rpm limiter is clearly slower than CBR in all counts.. lets accept the fact...

              IN principle i agreed with you 2nd last post where one cant really fix on a particular bhp for a specific city, etc, and Pradeepas take on how good low end torque helps prevent frequent gear shifts in city traffic. We are discussion two different aspects, Please dont mix the two.

                i guess there is a market in Pune for the KTM 125 DUKE!!! :-) rightly said that if there is too much traffic you dont really use the 25bhp to its fullest but mind you even the KTM 125 Duke will be a handful coz its not gonna behave the same as any other 15bhp motorcycle you've ridden before, why not just buy like a Pulsar 135 LS? its below 15bhp and is a good city bike with an average of close to 50kmpl, I use it out here in Mumbai city. plus its a 4 valve setup which gives you tremendous accceleration...albeit not more than a CBR250R ah!!! I will be purchasing the KTM 200 Duke when its out and I will also keep my pulsar 135LS coz its a good daily rider and with the fuel prices behaving the way they are the KTM 200 Duke would be My weekend ticket to Madness!!!

                    Rev limiter

                    Can anybody plz elaborate on why rev limiter is used on Duke 200 and not on any other Indian bike? What is the benifit?
                    I guess it would restrict bike's top speed.

                      I guess the only Indian made bike without a Rev Limiter is the Old RTR 160 (Non HyperEdge) which easily revved till 14k RPM. All the rest have rev-limiters. Though given the gearing on most bikes, it is very hard to hit the rev-limiter on other bikes. This seems not to be the case with the Duke 200 (as per the review) which either means that they either got the gearing wrong or the rev-limiter. Whatever the case, it can only be seen when the bike is on the open road. So, I guess we should wait for it to launch before we form an opinion about it.
                      Advice is a form of nostalgia.
                      Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

                        AFAIK, even Classic pulsars dint have rev limiter.

                            The newer ones (RTR 180,160/FI) too does not comes with the rev limiter!
