  • Guys, I want to discuss something about the current available figures. We know the tested Duke makes max power @ 10 krpm.

I believe we should get slightly better 0-60 and 0-100 figures as the Duke gets ready for the market. The reason is that the currently tested Duke has rev limiter @ 10 krpm which will be 11 krpm in the market version, and its CURRENT gear-wise top speeds with the limiter are:

2nd gear: 58 kmph (which means a gear shift required to 3rd to touch 60)
4th gear: 99 kmph (which means shift required to 5th to touch 100)

So, with the 11 krpm limiter, it would be able to touch 60 and 100 in 2nd and 4th gears itself I believe, thereby reducing the acceleration times (which are around 3.7s & 9.1s right now). It might as well probably touch the claimed 3.3s so we'll have to wait and see.

If anything, I would think that a test bike would have higher rev limiter than a market version. Its unlikely manufacturers would risk reliability by increasing rev limiter. Manufacturers have a tendency to decrease them if there is to be any change at all, especially when it reaches our shores. So there is not much reason to think the market version will be more than 10k rpm.

This guy from the vashi PBK store is a dicy fellow coz i had asked for a quotation of the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and as per his calculations the on road price of the bike is working around to be 3.50 lacs..while some of the guys i knw have suggested it to be around 3.10-3.15 lacs..can anyone comment altough this is a KTM blog...the guy even said that they will arrange for a test ride for the KTM but Bajaj is going to issue only one bike for test ride per city so all the pro biking storees in and around mumbai will have to share the same bike on rotation basis

            • i was just wondering about its touring abilities..wat will be the engine rpm if u cruise on 6th gear at say about 90kmph. will the engine be strained..??
i was doubtful because of the short gear ratios..!!
and does the handle bar and seating posture also aids in touring..?
              Cheers

P135LS revs till 10,500 rpm, so there is no reason why production Duke can't have more than that. In all probability Bajaj would have put the rev limiter to take the feed back so that they can make final adjustments.

Come on now, you really think a bike that can do max speed of 130kmph+ can feel strained at 90 kmph in 6th gear

While the first article mentions the on-board computer's predicted fuel figures, the second article mentions the fuel figures provided by KTM themselves. Although I seriously doubt a high-revving engine + 150 section rear + Indian stop-curse-go traffic conditions will ever return the claimed 30 kmpl. For a 70/30 highway/city split ride, which is what most rides end up being, the effeciency figures should be manageable. (70/30 = 70% highway, 30% home to highway and back)

                      • if the FE turns out to be in the range of 15/20 - it will remain in the "Premium" segment for sure with many opting out of buying it. Though it will be a drool worthy bike, the basic Indian question "kitna deti hai" is going to put off many despite all other impressive stats and figures, particularly with the petrol prices spiraling upwards. Just my thought.

Focus would then shift to the new range Pulsars - so what if it's not decked Orange or carry the Duke insignia

                        • 15-20 kmpl will definitely keep buyers away in India, Thats almost a mileage of super-bikes.

It hits rev limiter at 140 on speedo, some 134 kmph true speed. Let's check the Indian rankings:

                            (Both 250s): 150+
                            Duke: 134
                            P220: 132 something..
                            R15: 130+
                            Karizma: 127
                            RTR 180: 124
                            Impulse: 98 kmph <---

Not bad speed at all. The bigger thing is that it can pick up strongly from as low as 35 kmph in top. As for mileage, we better wait for more results and reviews.

@ Sunny: I don't know about their hardware. But, surely they have some GPS vBox or such hardware otherwise how would they give so called "true" speeds. I just purchased the new year issue of BI for updated performance figures/ idea...

                              • One of KTM 125 users review: (Please note this is not to spread negativity about the bike)

bought the Duke in June, use it for commuting to work-home. Most of my bikes have been pretty trouble-free, but the Duke has given me quite a few, after only 5.000KMs. I also have my fingers in a `97 KTM Sting ...125 (pretty much same kind of bike as the Duke, but with 2-stroke Yamaha, and made in Austria). Hardly any glitch on the Sting.
Now, 14 days after I had my bike in for service and several fault-fix, I still have a few faults: Speedo runs up'n'down on it own (sensorfault, garage has ordered new), brakeswitch #2 in front wount work, plate light (the rear white LED) just died the other day, side stand switch works sometimes (...)... This bike just seems not to enjoy rain! Its very "cheap" electrics. Connectors might look like quality stuff, pretty much as you find in engine compartment in well-known cars (VAG, Opel/Vauxhall, a.o.) but unfortunately its just cheap India copy. Still, I continue to use it everyday, and lets the dealer get the headache ;-) I have made a extension for the front wheel fender, so the water does not splash directly into the rad. Also I have blinded half the rad, so the engine will get normal temps. Now in wintertime it is often about freezing temps here, and engine is not able to get normal temp if I not blind it a bit.

Another says: Problems so far : Leaking coolant from manifold, shop replaced. Happened AGAIN ! Shop replaced again, Sticky throttle got re-mapped, 64mph in 6th Gear wtf ! Absolute pig to get into neutral !

Sunny bhai and others who have ridden the Duke 200 - Any issues you guys faced while changing gears? or slotting into Neutral?

Some of the other issues reported: Hitting a flat spot at 7000 rpm. Engine chokes at 7-8k rpm and flats out at 42 mph. Some even report choking at 94-98 mph. (hard to believe the 98 mph part though)
Some gears not showing on the LCD display.
