I too have driven on my Karizma (MRF Zappers) innumerable times in pouring rain in Bangalore traffic Hosur Road (known to be a deadly road) at speeds ranging from 40 to 100+ without any issues for years!! So its about the riding tech thats it... as you said TVS tyres on my RTR 160 are sub standard and have very ordinary grip... I dont know how good will ABS work with tyres like this.... Anyways ABS as a tech is good but its not such a big parameter for decision making to buy a bike or not...

actually i mean to say is that you can for sure drive at that speed ( as myself has driven my bike on wet roads at more then 80kmph) and stop your bikes as well with out ABS, But ABS will be helpfull in the case when you have to apply your brakes suddenly at that speed if somebody comes infront of you all of a sudden. In normal conditions i dont think anybody would require a ABS. These technologys are usefull in emergencies only which we reuire rarelly.

ABS though a 'nice to have' is not unlivable without. I have confidently ridden in the 130s in a cloudburst. ABS is not a replacement for good tires and good riding technique. RTRs which come with TVS Tires have zilch grip in the wet. ABS there is just a cover-up.

P.S. ABS is useful...and as far as 60+kmph and wet roads is concerned a sudden brake (with no ABS) will mostly ended in the rider having a merry-go-round and a gradual braking might keep him on his feet..err...wheels.
So its about how you ride! Techs are add-ons to your riding skills!

BMW recently came up with Traction control on their bikes!! why not add it to Pulsar then :-)

Its not just about having the tech, its about the actual performance in real world conditions (Indian roads) and to be within the budget...

My whole purpose of this was to not deter any potential Pulsar buyers away, just for a tech called ABS!!

Im a keen follower of cars too from more than a decade now... Ive known the effect of ABS on cars... and the way its gone on to be standard on the recent cars... But what is a pre requisite for any safety tech to work is for the basics to be right and would only work best in the best of conditions... When I mean basics good tyre grip along with strong brakes and careful use of the controls... when I mean the best of conditions its a perfect pucca thar road and watery surface on the same road only... Any kind of lose surface will only work as good with the tech or without it...

My whole debate was to not thrash ABS but to thrash 1 of my friends' claim that above 60 on a wet road we would have a fall without ABS and no fall with ABS!! Its not about the tech in the bike to avoid a fall.... its about the rider and his skills with the bike and being a responsible rider importantly...

Anyways I guess we have deviated a lot from the actual subject for this blog... We will stick on to Pulsar 200 NS which is the next gen Pulsar and a good one at that...

may be if you could please take a look at the dimension specs of the bike you might be able to find answers.If you look, you'll be able to see pressed steel perimeter frame and its steel and not aluminium or lighter stuff.now again if you look you can see an increased wheelbase by almost 13mm more than the p220,next 54 mm more in width comped to p220's figure,liquid cooled engine with more weight in form of bigger radiator unit. and bigger disk brake units,beefier swing arm unit and not to mention bigger tyres both at front and back than what is made available on the p220,...ect..ect....and even with all these,p200 is lighter than p220f as well as p220s and even bare basic p180 ug4.and i think that still seem to be a job well done by bajaj.though still i also would like to see a lighter 200 ns (so as to make it more manageable and easy to ride for average joes like me) on its future versions...

And as far as the ABS vs Non-ABS debate is going...id like to say is that ABS (even on RTR) is useful.
I have test ridden both the ABS and Non-ABS versions because i was about to buy one but dropped the idea once P200NS was unveiled.

Even on a dry tarmac in case of emergency braking a bike will definitely skid. And if you think that a good tyre does'nt, then you're wrong buddy. Even MRF Zapper (considering it a good tyre) skids when braked hard or even during sudden but mild braking on a slightly gravel/sand covered road.

And yes as antz.bin (but in case of FI) said...people generally don't give a damn whether an ABS is from any manufacturer until and unless it works good. People will buy the machine even if the ABS is from a chindi-chor chhaap manufacturer if it works fine.

Whenever I see the xbhp vid last part where the rider has camera near his knees i get even more hooked to this bike. my next bike for sure
