if you maintain a speed of 80-90 during rtr ride it will not feel stressed ,try taking break in between.most of our indian bikes do not have liquid cooling,people are touring anyways, no need to worry.
150 cc of r15 can tour,only problem is the rding position during long ride.
same goes with abs,most of our bikes don't have it.
try extending your budget for c-abs-ed cbr,if not try improving braking skill.
bajaj will not price a 200 cc pulsar at 1.5 lakhs,they are not that dumb.

and stopping a bike from 60 kmph to halt on wet surface is not that difficult,keep on practising.

Going OT, but you are correct. PBK does servicing of P220 Fi & non Fi wherein almost all the process are same. To tune the CO level, they just plug in comp to the bike & then the comp & another apparatus (which measures Co & NO2 levels) fixes it to the desired level. Fi & Non Fi shares all the parts except for the fuelling. I have only got fuel filter changed periodically. I don't believe I have shed extra rupees to maintain my Fi bike!

Coming to the point of "servicing" a FI vehicle:
~8,500km's on R15 (I think 3-4 servicing) and ~15,000km's in a car (3 servicing). I don't recall the mechanic even touching the fueling system's h/w. I know its just a little bit of exp with FI vehicles. May be someone with a longer ownership exp with FI vehicles can share his exp.

Whereas over the lakh's of km's on my carb bikes, in almost each servicing the mechanic has opened the carb for cleaning. To me, that's adding cost to "servicing".

Yes, may be in a long run (a lakh km's?) the injectors could need replacement. But that's not part of "servicing", its part of "long term maintenance".

If you have any first/second hand experience, please share it. I just shared mine above.

Thanks for the Info. I am still not able to decide between RTR 180 ABS, Pulsar200 NS and Yamaha R15 because in a way they all miss one thing as i love to go on rides from Delhi to Haridwar, Dehradun, Rishikesh and Masuri:- RTR180 ABS dont have a Liquid Cooled Engine for long rides as i think it will heat up for that much of a long ride because i am planning to leave delhi at 4am and ride nonstop from delhi to haridwar on my new bike, Yamaha R15 - Have a low CC engine and doest have a ABS, Pulsar 200NS dont have a FI and ABS. Only one bike (CBR 250) has all that and that is out of my reach as my maximum budget is 1.50lakh and that costs around 1.80lakh.. Bajaj please increase your bike price to 1.50lakh and give me a FI, ABS (as i think it is almost impossible to stop a bike on a wet surface without ABS at a speed more then 60Kmph) and a Nice Fairing plzzzzzzzzzz.

p.s.:take a stunner and stunner fi to the service centre and ask for the invoice at the end of servicing ,compare both,i hope you will be able to fond out the cost difference.

Yes agree with you, all the specifications are out of the world for Pulsar 200NS and i love that bike as well but i would have anticipated the features like Fi & ABS, But most important for me is FI. I want a faired version of the same so will wait a little longer to get that into the picture from Bajaj. Hope it will be launced at an earliest .

asish fi in lower cc bike is not that practical choice,the tangible benefits to the owner are hasssle free cold morning start,little bit more consistent mileage,less polluting bike,linear throttle response.

but servicing cost is high,bike costs high while buying.antz.bin has explained earlier extensively how bajaj has intelligently used extra spark plug in place of fi and saved up quite a bit cost,giving forward benefits to the customers.

if abs is important criteria for you buy rtr,i don't think bajaj will develop abs sooner.rather try improving braking skill.

hope absence of fi and abs is not deal-breaker for you.

I am a fan of Bajaj and always rely on their products i own my self a Pulsar 150 of 2003. But in some expects it always disappoints me . Like a Glamour 125cc bike can have FI system, A Apache 160 can have a FI system, A Stunner 125cc can have a FI system but not a 200cc Bajaj Pulsar NS. They should have made it available at least optionaly like on a premium version. I was expecting it to be a FI but got disappointed now. Not able to decide now which bike to go for as i am always a Bajaj fan but they dont have the two things that i was expecting most important was a Fi system and the other is an ABS version but they disappointed me and many other bikers in India . Any senior XBHP members please can you get in touch with Bajaj.

For 220Fi did Bajaj sourced the technology?
I think it was just like TVS's Fi development. Mostly in house.
Wasn't it Delphi that provided parts for the Fi unit for 220Fi, in the same way at RTR160Fi.

That was for the twin plug-3valve engine of Flame.
RTR engine's are based on the Fiero platform (that was developed with Suzuki). Due to some agreement with them (after TVS and Suzuki split), TVS wasn't allowed to modify the engine for a certain time duration. (This is what I read from the articles printed in mags).

Gas charged doesn't mean expensive suspension.
KTM has USB forks.
The swing arm of KTM is not a simple rectangular one.
(Just a couple that I could think of right away).

Well the same they did with Classic Pulsars too.
Still they managed to price the bikes competitively, back then.
Any company would plan their ROI over a period of time based on the projected sales number.

Having ridden a bike with normal tyres and also with a bit more sticky rubber. I will say, the extra money paid for the sticky rubber was worth. (Bikes being Fiero with Ceat tyre and Michelin M45 & ZMA with Ceat and Sirac).

1) I guess ur comparing 15K difference on-road... its better to compare the ex-showroom difference to knw the cost-price difference closer.
2) Bajaj is a company which develops its own engines (TVS has hired AVL for developing many engines I read somewhere). They have so much on the technological front. So why not create Fi and pay royalties to others. And when they can share the whole Bottom-end with KTM and have technical relationships with Kawasaki which was "the company which brought Fi into Bikes", its very weird. But Im sure Bajaj will come up with Fi using bikes on 350cc & 700cc Pulsars because big engines could have cold start probs and the usage of Fi would be justified on those big-engined expensive bikes.
3) U mentioned 90-100rs for spark plugs... But those are the most basic spark plugs available. Can't we see better ones? What spark plug D200 uses... the same 100rs ones?
4) Why the D200's WP suspension is so expensive than the other bikes. Its not gas charged also. Saving on suspension seem to me around 5-10k.
5) Cost of the bike is not only material and Bajaj is setting up new plant for new bike with new machines & new moulds to create a "new" bike. I believe the reason for having big profits for Bajaj was they used the almost same model for the older pulsars and sold millions of them. but they are now creating a complete new bike and it would incur heavy investments. Also investments for R&D has to be recovered. Whats ur opinion on this?
6) How much do u anticipate for the fully-faired version. I hope 6-7K would be good enough for a nice fairing they would produce. Also since I dont knw how much benefit user will get from the soft-compound option in city/highway riding (of-course no one is going to race tracks to ride practically) and how much more expensive it should be by ur estimates?

Even I have stopped touching it these days. Maybe I was finicky earlier when the bike was newer. This IS after all, the first bike I ever rode more than 40km at a stretch without taking a butt break. I can never compare my puny 60k km of experience of riding 2 wheelers with your vast reservoir. What I can do is learn from you.

Coming back to @Enthusiast: Thanks for the hypothetical vote . The probable reasons why (According to a Rajiv Bajaj interview) the 220Fi was discontinued was:
1. Fi provided little quantifiable benefits over the carb on such a small engine considering the added cost.
2. Costed 15k more than carb (93xxx Vs 78xxx at launch time)
3. Carb, when launched started off with 5k units/month. Fi never managed more than 500/month.

Q. Why P220 carb and Fi came in the Duke vs P200NS discussion?
A. Because i couldn't find any other closely related Fi/Carb cousins sold side by side.

Q. Why differences in Honda carb and Fi bikes don't matter?
A. Honda developed their own PGM-Fi system. They don't pay royalties to anyone. Same case with Hyosung.

Q. Why Prices of RTR 160 carb and Fi don't matter?
A. The prices you just compared were those of RTR 160 HyperEdge and Pre-facelift NON HyperEdge RTR 160 Fi. Older, non HyperEdge RTR160 was cheaper than HyperEdge.

Fact 1: Regular Champion / Bosch spark plugs used regularly on Pulsars cost 90ish bucks apiece (not 250)

Fact 2: According to this article. The Pulsar saves 20k on just the suspension and swing arm bits compared to the Duke.

Fact 3: Forks on the Duke are not only fatter but USD. They don't save much by simply using thinner forks. They will be saving much more because these forks are mass produced on a much larger scale than Duke's. (= same size as CBR )
