Ya I was too searching for ghosts on my way back to Aarey but Ghosts are less scary than the no of potholes in the Aarey road. Did not find one!

A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

Always be ready (get geared) to fall and then think of sitting on the motorcycle.

          • One of the scariest roads I've been to is the Pathankot-Udhampur back road i.e. not the one via Jammu.
During night time, the whole area is pitch black due to absence of any people for 10 kms either side of the road.
couple that with the curvy mountain roads, usual cloudy conditions which means no moon the only thing you can see is within the throw of your own headlight.
i had a weird experience one in June 2010 when i had to stop my car to walk my dog [he was only a puppy that time so frequent stops were necessary]
while i was walking him about 10 meters from the car there was an odd clicking sound and the sound of rocks rolling.i got very scared, picked up my dog and immediately went away from there
in hindsight it was probably another animal but the psychological condition that i was in after the pitch black road made me very scared.

I have been on that road, but during the day (Right turn off Pathankot - Jammu Highway 100 meters ahead of Samba Bridge (opp. Govt. Degree College Samba)). There was adequate traffic on the road so I was never lonely or scared or anything. It was pretty standard hilly road stuff mostly. Almost same condition as the Jammu Srinagar Highways up ahead, only narrower. The fact that I had biker company on that stretch was comforting (considering I was on a Solo Ride) and a big reason why I opted for that particular road and not the regular route via Jammu.

As far as my estimates go, I saved a good hour and a half by opting for that route over the regular route via Jammu. But would I go there again? Depends on what kind of company I have .
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

A very good thread to begin with, didn't mind reading the entire set of pages, boy it's scary. Unfortunately I haven't experienced anything at all in my life.

But here is a take that my dad once said to us over dinner.

He was on a usual business trip. He boarded a bus from Madurai and incidentally it was a late night trip. After quite a few KMS after the conductor has pinned his ticket entry, it seemed the conductor was drowsy and wanted to take some rest. Fortunately or unfortunately my dad was the only one awake reading a book in the bus and awake, and dad says... The conductor asked me if I could sit right next to the driver for few KMS and dad was like okay, since he told the driver would feel drowsy if no one is next to him for chatting, so dad says okay and takes the front seat.

They talk for a while and then moment later silence follows (as said by my dad) and all they see is tarmac lighted up by the halogens this follows for quite a few KMS and just suddenly to the extreme right hand corner as my dad said, he saw a lady in white gown her hair almost till her calves walking very very very slowly almost like a snail. I still remember he telling us that he was so buzzed and he really wanted to say this to the driver, but upon seeing the driver as if he didn't even see anything, he was skeptical.

Then I asked why didn't you say this to the driver? Mom was like, WTF!

Dad then says, no I had this feeling that he didn't notice it and the bus going at a good clip, and he didn't want to say something at the middle of the night and piss off the driver.

Fast forward he reaches the town.

He still narrates how his body was trembling from what he saw when he got out of the bus, to this day he attests that it is clearly a ghost.

My dad usually is an excellent story teller, my grandma used to say, that he says stories so surreal that you'd believe it is real.

But when insisted upon this is one of your old stories, he says no what I said to you is the truth, no stories.

Second incident. Once in a lodge, he usually prefers cheap lodges when going solo. It was around 10:30 and the lodge where he usually goes was choked so he opted for a second one somewhere near, and booked a room, spent the night there, left the morning.

The next morning is where the fun starts. The room cleaner asked my dad, Sir, did you have a good nights sleep?

Dad was like, yes, why are you asking?

The cleaner was like, Sir, the room you slept was closed for a long time, due to an apparent suicide in that room.

And he still chucks at it.

Well, it may sound strange about the weirdos going in the world, but as much as I love the hilarious thread, this one is equally thrilling and exciting. Keep it coming.

Just one from my side, not ghost actually. While doing the Leh, somewhere near Jammu, trust me we were doing most of the riding at night it was round 10:30 to be exact, the roads were real good, full of beautifully paved roads, and I was bored after being a sweep for more than an hour or so, so just zoomed in front of the clan and since my bike has HID. Couple of minutes pass by and in the meantime I used to keep a check of them on my RVM and I can see lights, and then suddently I lost clip and was zooming real ahead and to my surprise no one was following. I was riding thinking they were catching up a little late. Then it was real worrying, I stopped.

Boy I remember, the moment I stopped (engine still running, headlights off) I can hear smell all sort of things, the ghostly wind prowl rocks ticking each other. I stopped for a good 10 minutes waiting for them all alone, not a single organism in sight. Just my, the bike and pitch and I mean "PITCH" black night all alone at around 11:30 PM. I wait wait and with no signs of them approaching, worrying I ride back some three odd KMS back, and I see them all waving at me, all standing on the roadside with their headlights on.

I ask them, what the hell are we stopping for?

They were all looking 90 degrees to their right, and I was like what was it.

Did you see a UFO. I was like WTF! Seriously?

Just as you zoomed past us, to the right we all saw a very bright, white disc shaped thing roll down just next to us, very huge, did you see it?

I was like, no didn't even notice it, didn't see any light until I stopped for you guys an waited for you with my headlights off. I even convinced it might be my HID in the corners having that arc beam, they were like, come on dude, are we that dumb.

Once they got their adrenaline settled, after they said that incident to me, I was like, dear god, please help us all ride safe to the nearest human habitation ASAP, apparently we halted in a teashop somewhere near for the night and started the next day.

To this day, I felt bad on missing that action of UFO or whatever that giant white disc object rolling down the mountain was. Those lucky souls witnessed it.

                  Cheers!

                  The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

I'm a ghost, a lot of people, including some of my classmates seriously believe that there is some paranormal thing inside me. I know, it's just because I have some mental disorders and I'm battling depression for the last couple of years. So, I tend to become suddenly energetic and all of a sudden very depressed and angry. I have tried to crash on my neighbor's tall boundary walls a couple of times, but my fingers would automatically pull in the brakes progressively without me thinking to do so.

On a lighter note, people have mistaken me for a ghost a couple of times at night I have posted it on the people's reaction to riding gears thread.
                    I am back!

Caution : Long post. Real and very bizzare incidents narrated. Laugh and move on if you don’t believe

My maternal grandparent’s town(Ahmednagar) is full of such stories though I will stick to only the ones involving a “road”, as this is what the thread talks about.

There is a small stretch of road running parallel to the old fort of Chandbibi in Ahmednagar which is widely accepted to be haunted. Two incidents that I have heard and swear by it’s authenticity (as both were told to me by my mom) are:

                      1. A very drunk pathan(my grandfather’s buddy) was walking the road alone in the night. Suddenly someone tapped his shoulder and asked him for a lighter. When he turned around to hand the lighter to the voice, he saw a headless body of an English soldier standing in front of him. The pathan(being drunk) got angry and kicked the ghost shouting “How dare you make fun of me by asking for a smoke when you don’t even have a head!!”

Later he narrated this to my grandfather who knew about the stretch being haunted by the ghost of an English soldier. He was beheaded by angry rebels during the 1857 uprising.

                      2. My maternal uncle got dared by his friends to go to a shrine on that road at midnight. He was supposed to put a flag in the ground as a proof of going there. There is a creepy roadside cannon there which locals have converted into a shrine. They believe an evil spirit resides there and have built the shrine honoring it. Makes them feel safer that way. (I have personally seen that place and boy it gives you the creeps!. It looks like some old sacrificial altar). Back to the incident – Being a young brave lad my uncle went there on amavasya night. As he was digging a hole to plant that flag, he heard a child’s crying. He was surprised for a minute but kept digging( he knew it was strange but was anticipating such things). He momentarily turned to fetch the flag. As he glanced at the small hole made by him, he saw a lady with a small child crying in her lap IN THAT SMALL HOLE!!!
That was it for my uncle who froze with fear, came to his senses a while later and raced back home. He was hospitalized with high fever for a week and never visited that spot his entire life.

My family has had a lot of such experiences. Only I am remaining to experience something paranormal now.AFA I am concerned, Apart from seeing a strange, white saree clad lady staring at me in the dead of the night once, I never got to experience any such stuff till now.

Well with me nothing like this ever happened. Though I used to feel that someone is following me while I use to ride solo. This happened many timnmes and I was very scared of the fact that ghosts exists and I should not ride at night. I prefer riding at night mostly.
After one whole year I again started riding at night from Vadodra to Pune, use to do up and down once in 2 months.
Same feeling that someone is following me, and I used to look back or just call someone and talk to them while riding (I use a BT) one day I called up dad and told him while I was riding that I have been having this feeling since a very long time that someone on the highway is following me.
Dad being ans Army Officer told me that he has also felt these kind of things when they are in the jingles or on a Post where they have to stay awake for days.
He asked me if I took a proper sleep last night or not, I told him no I had some work to complete and couldn't sleep properly.
He told me, this all happens when you are tired and fatigue starts to kick in because of over exertion of both mind and body.
Then I planned and took a whole day nap, started at 6pm from pune and reached Vadodra by 11:30, I didn't feel anything wrong, in fact the ride was much more fun and felt easy.
I guess all these things happen only when you are tired and body needs rest.
