Any pointers on buying a Go Pro/similar helmet mounted cam?

I'm looking to get a helmet mounted came. I didn't do much of research, but am weighing the Sony HDR-AS20 Action Camera to the Go Pro series. Go Pro seems to be expensive IMO. Any pointers or viable options?

Bhai log, can somebody help.me source a action camera. Gopro are way too expensive for my likings. I have read a lot about SJ cams, but are they available in indian market and that too original ?

If it has to be purchased from some place/website please let me know the detailed procedure. I am aware about domestic online purchases but not aware about purchasing from international sites. All folks who are using budget action cameras, please let me know how to get one.

You can find sj action cameras on amazon.in.. But make sure you go for the one with good reviews and rating because there are fakes on amazon as well.
Original sj4000 wifi sells for around 10.2k on amazon.in

You can get original SJ4000 from SJCAM @Amazon or Ebay.
Original wifi SJ4000 will cost you around 8k. My friend brought it just few days before. Just make sure you buy the SJCAM and not any other like SPORTS, etc.

How to check if the cam is genuine. The seller on amazon says that the sjcam he is selling, is original. I am only concerned about a lemon product and putting in vain close to 10k of hard earned money.

Before buying just check if the seller is having a refund/replacement policy. Then when the product will be delivered to you, just verify the serial number of the delivered product in the SJCAM website. If it matches, then you are good to go, if it doesn't you have your replacement policy

i suggest better to get xiaomi YI camera than SJ4000/5000 , i have SJ4000 it is good but now Yi camera has advantage of good sensor and lens , a true 16mp while SJ4000 has only 3mp [interpolated to 12mp ].

latest firmware update on Yi camera allows now to shoot videos in 2k resolution , and if one wants real slow motion then Yi camera is best. cost wise Yi comes same as SJ4000 with waterproof case

2. From where it is imported as i see the delivery time of 3-5 weeks.
3. In case of any issue, are there any local workshops for any replacement/repairs ?
4. Since this product is not available in India, in case of warranty claims, where should the customer go ?
5. what are the other charges I will have to pay, can you give some approximate figures apart from the camera price ?

Please see, I will be purchasing this camera during Diwali. All I need is a genuine trust and reliability of the product as the 11000 rupees is hard earned Hope you understand

Thanks for your email.
1.Yes this is the original camera with all accessories included. Its either imported from Shenzhen china or Hongkng import link depending on the incoming carrier.
2. No there is no shop for repairs but you can always come back to us for replacement parts and accessories the only thing that is known to go bad in this camera is the mode button.
Unless the controls (buttons) are abused they do not wear off easily.
If it does goes wrong its very very easy to fix moreover replacement front covers are also available on request.
3. We will make sure that this situation doesn't arise as we test and re-test every piece that is dispatched to our customers. We have sold more than 150pcs until now and there are no complaints.
4. You pay what you see on the amazon page there is no added cost associated with this purchase unless you choose to buy extra batteries or accessories.

Pl. Do not hesitate to buy
The delivery time given by amazon is the maximum usually we get it delivered within 2weeks +/- 1 week.

Sony HDR-AS20 seems costly than the GoPro basic model which comes ~12K.

This is still not yet launched in India. Also don't see any accessories to fit to bike or helmet. GoPro is currently the leader and hence has all set of accessories and support. I'm really confused. GoPro Hero costs about ~12K in Amazon. I don't know about the service centers in India. But 100% all are positive reviews. Also I find the Hero is more than enough to record video (720p @ 60fps) , as for a still picture I have Nikon D3200 DSLR.

Has anybody used the GoPRO Hero?, and if so can you confirm how much backup and record length does it provide?. I saw in a review that it records video upto some 20 minutes length only. If someone has used please kindly confirm the same.

apart from gopro/Sony no other camera available here officially , for Yi camera u need to buy outer case and then u can use with any accessories [either from gopro or from SJ4000].
if sony then AS100 is the one to go [ranks above gopro] or if wants smaller then Sony mini.

if one wants either gopro/sony then its wise choice , and if someone wants to spend less then Xiaomi Yi is the camera to go , instead spending other non-branded camera

I strongly advice you to stay with GoPRO Hero. It's a proven and a solid model. THe SJ4000 also comes with a heavy cost. Spending few thousand more and getting a very good product is what a general piece of advice anybody would give.

But warranty is still a question in India as we don't have one. 1K or 2K seems not a huge number, but a 12k+ for an electronic equipment without warranty is like walking on rope without sticks

By the way, do let me know if you have bought it.

AS100 is said "discontinued" bro. THe above link says it costs 18K. But no mounts or accessories. Do you also know any info about GoPRO warranty service?.

I myself find GoPRO HERO well suited to fix in my bike or helmet. But worried about warranty , being an electronic equipment, it can go faulty any next day

Gopro hero basic one that retails for 12k doesnt have external mic socket and cant be taken out from the case, even the battery cant be taken out. Video length depends on the card one is using, it needs atmeast class 10 45mbps card. On full charge it can record upto 60mts max. It has ultra wide view in 720p but only 60fps.
