  • The Music Thread

I searched the UT section but did not see one dedicated to the music that members listen to. Hence this start. Mods, if there exists one already, please merge the two. Thanks.

Motorcycling and Music are intertwined at primal levels. Our steeds make their own music when their electromechanical components come together to stage a full-fledged orchestra. We have percussion (the thump of the pistons), strings (the harmonics of the whole structure in full, separate frequencies in individual parts)and wind (the tyre roar, the slipstream). And the ensemble is completed by the conductor, waving (twisting) his baton (throttle) across an esoteric range of symphonies. The audience is the alter ego of the conductor and this particular one has the best seat in the house.

So, what music do I listen to? I listen to any music that appeals to me and brings a smile to my face, which can lift me to heights of ecstasy and plunge me into the depths of pathos, which can situate me instantly on a highway, on a mountain peak, swimming with whales, sharing a laugh, wiping a tear, living this short life to the fullest.

My choice spans from Indian classical at one end of the spectrum to Western classical at the end and gospel, Indie soundtrack, rock, jazz, pop, punk, reggae, grunge etc thrown in between. From Bhimsen Joshi to Vivaldi and Talat Mehmood, Chitra/Jagjit Singh, Bon Jovi, Dave Brubeck, Eagles, 2Pac, Green Day, Limp Bizkit et al.

What do the rest of us listen to.... Do write in.

At first, tons of applause to the thread starter person for taking this one vital initiative. Other than the Jokes, it is the music which soothes every brain.

further more, I think a title like "What have you been listening to recently ?" will make the thread more discussion oriented to mutually update each other with something really special, which just released or some may have missed (I mean oldies-goldies)

Among many that I listen to, I am a Linkin Park fan by soul ............. it was the entry-band for me into the English songs and I still admire their art of putting together the music in each of the songs.

Though after my college life, I am no more up-to-date with the latest releases (other than those of LP), so I hope some hymning bees here may help me jazz back .

        Warm Regards,
        Pranav

I am an avid lover of melodies. While I like to listen to music when I drive my car, on my bike it has been difficult especially with helmet. I wonder how few manage to listen music while on a 2-wheeler.

Get ready for stiff penalties for talking on your mobile phone or listening to music on I-pod or even using handsfree and Bluetooth devices while driving. For the first time in India, mobile phones, hi-tech gadgets, Bluetooth devices, walkman, handsfree, I-pods and similar electronic gizmos would be defined under law and banned from use while driving.
