Motorcycling and Music are intertwined at primal levels. Our steeds make their own music when their electromechanical components come together to stage a full-fledged orchestra. We have percussion (the thump of the pistons), strings (the harmonics of the whole structure in full, separate frequencies in individual parts)and wind (the tyre roar, the slipstream). And the ensemble is completed by the conductor, waving (twisting) his baton (throttle) across an esoteric range of symphonies. The audience is the alter ego of the conductor and this particular one has the best seat in the house.
So, what music do I listen to? I listen to any music that appeals to me and brings a smile to my face, which can lift me to heights of ecstasy and plunge me into the depths of pathos, which can situate me instantly on a highway, on a mountain peak, swimming with whales, sharing a laugh, wiping a tear, living this short life to the fullest.
My choice spans from Indian classical at one end of the spectrum to Western classical at the end and gospel, Indie soundtrack, rock, jazz, pop, punk, reggae, grunge etc thrown in between. From Bhimsen Joshi to Vivaldi and Talat Mehmood, Chitra/Jagjit Singh, Bon Jovi, Dave Brubeck, Eagles, 2Pac, Green Day, Limp Bizkit et al.
What do the rest of us listen to.... Do write in.
