Hello BHPians,

I was little apprehensive while beginning to write this. Not because of the usual thoughts whether moderator would approve or the members would respond. But I was thinking if members would really speak their conscience consciously and contribute.

I know that our forum members are of different age groups with wide variety of profession, culture and geographies with different levels of exposures in life. This is simply wonderful. I just thought, how about helping each other on trivial and general topics of day-to-day life in this off topic thread??? I gave it a lot of thought and decided to create this thread. I guess we could have a great time if this thread is steered properly by all willing members contributing appropriately.

I am neither a philanthropist nor a psychologist. I am just trying to create this thread to consciously speak our conscience and help each other. Ideally, one should be learning from others experiences and benefit from it rather than learning it the hard way. I call it 'values of life.'

Come on BHP-ians each one of us always have that little or even a list of experiences which you may think is unique, wanted to share but unable to or it is not acknowledged properly. All I am looking from our forum members are the valuable experiences that you might have learnt in your life. Your learning/values could be shared here with our fellow BHPians.

While I am putting down my thoughts please feel free to suggest for betterment of this thread.

To illustrate a few situations, BHPians could use this thread to -

* seek advice on dealing healthier relationships especially within family
* good deed(s) done that made their day complete
* social responsibilities involved
* ideas to overcome stress/anger/etc
* Fatherhood experiences - how to deal with children

I guess, after few pages of posting and responses the thread will steer in the right direction.
Hoping to share and learn a lot from our colleagues apart from motors. If the thread is approved I shall come up with my first situation!

(P.S - Mods, please edit/delete this thread if you feel it would not serve the purpose.)

Topic Approved for Now

Approving it for now. Personally I don't think online is the place where you should be discussing your personal life and seeking help/ guidance. Family and friends are supposed to play this role in life.

If you are so hooked to your smartphone/ laptop that you cannot approach someone in the real world, then you need a reality check.

Based on feedback from other members on this thread or PM, I will let this thread be or delete it.

Cheers

Re: Speaking OUR CONSCIENCE CONSCIOUSLY and helping others

let other members decide whether to share or not..
i just want to add one thing.. real life experiences are way more helpful than reading about others..
we read some really motivational quote and decide to change our lives, but after 5-10 mins.. all that is nowhere to be found and we are the same..
about the relations with the family or how good we socially are, others can't know what our conditions are and what truly is the matter.. its only us who can do anything about it..

well its not bad to share, but its always a personal choice.. its different about sharing about bike.. but most won't like to share anything personal like this.. atleast that's what i think..
be happy and always be calm.. a calm mind can differentiate between good n bad in a far better way than a twisted and angry mind..

Ride safe and have fun.

Hai
Well to start with it is as everyone said it is always difficult to share personal things. But we can always advice others on the experience that we had. Even a simple warning on things to come will be a great help to some one. But it is our natural instinct that will helps us in many situations.

Some of my experience. Some might be silly but it always does the trick.
* I always watch cartoons like Tom & Jerry when I am stress out.
* When I am very angry with someone and I am about to bash him/her good. I just count from 1 to ...... till I become calm.
* I like to get drenched in the second rainfall. It always give me a rejuvenating feeling inside me. I avoid the first rainfall as it brings down all the dirt down from the atmosphere.
* I always feed some stray dogs everyday. Just for my satisfactions as I love Dogs.
* I never Think even for a second to help some one on the road. Be it an accident or crossing an old lady/Gentleman across the road.

Just some of my routine. I don't know how far it will help some one.

Cheers

If we are looking for help and sharing for our problems, let us understand that every individual has Varying priorities in one's life, and even the priorities change...Every "issue or problem " is unique since the role players, surroundings, and situations are continuously varying....
There is a saying that " packed food and verbal advice do not last for long"..We learn from our OWN experiences and is unique to us...
Generalized shares are possible, but it's usefulness is questionable......
I honestly appreciate the thread starter's effort and intent.
My experience confirms that one can lead a horse to a pond,...but it is the Horse which must decide to drink...

ppl rarely discuss personal things online and its risky also, as conveyed by Monk.even friends you made online can be of great help in solving your problems or issues, but its best you discuss it over phone or face to face.i would like to thank aargee specially for a great piece of advise he gave me over a phone call, and now i am not only a happy biker but a happy person as well, or rather i would call it tension free person.

Yes Mathews. This is exactly what I was talking about. Thank you very much for your points. Feeding stray dogs is good one. I like it. I guess I could spare a few coins to feed dogs. Thank you Mathews. It is like these habits and tips I was interested in consolidating from our members. I feel this is a good start.Sure monk. I understand. I just need a little help here to steer this thread correctly and thank you for letting the thread come in princesirohi, psr, nadz11.ns, The Monk - I certainly understand your responses. I am sorry if I did not make myself clear earlier. Just in case if I've not described the motive of the thread, please help rephrase or suggest. I am well'aware that there is going to be encouragement and criticism as well.May i request each one of you to just put down a suggestion or two like Mathews? I am sure we are there. I am certainly not trying to be personal with anyone here. Just trying to learn and consolidate from other's real life scenarios. If it matches and is acceptable by a member in need, then you just helped somebody, right? However, I also believe that occassionally one could get a quick tip or idea on any issues if he choose to. The responses for help could be based on personal experiences or generalised as well. No obligations at all.A few from my end-* When I feel stressed out or in an argument with my family member, I change channel to Chutty TV and then mimic any cartoon character to whoever is arguing with me. If I am lucky, they laugh it off and then I take opportunity to talk and resolve things. If unlucky, the situation gets even worse like they feel I am playing around. Still, I apologize and take opportunity to talk and resolve things.* Any situation, be it problamatic or excitement, I barely express. That way I've developed a habit of looking things equally.* On special occassions I try to visit any orphanage and offer donation for either lunch or snacks. I did this on my wife's last birthday and few other occassions. And I just realised that I got an opportunity to think about myself sensibly after a long time. I mean the good and bad about myself. I just hope people reading and replying back to this thread would also feel alike.

Re: Speaking OUR CONSCIENCE CONSCIOUSLY and helping others

Since you have put the subject in better perspective, here are some of the things I do from my side...towards the living environment around me.

1. In the morning I, Feed the crows,Squirrels,Pigeon, and Kuyil(Indian cuckoo) ..initially it was just the crows and squirrels, but later others joined in, and the quantum of the feed also increased....to-day there is approximately 30 +Crows,20 +Pigeons,6 to 10 squirrels, and 6 Indian cuckoos.....I feel so happy to see them organise themselves in an orderly fashion and eat..I leave the food in many places so that there is no clash between them...So The day starts happily for me....

2. I visit blue cross whenever possible, and do help them with small donations...

3. Rescue, feed small babies of Animals and try to give them a quality life.

4. Regularly Support "Helpage India "in many of their Projects through contributions..

5. Regularly Help "C R Y " in helping children.,esp., support of girl children towards their,Rescue, education, dress and quality of life.

6. Have created Endowment for feeding of Old inmates and children at "Udavum Karangal" on specific days.

7. Regular contribution to organization "Hope " towards treatment and support of HIV affected children

8. Support to "Concern "an organization helping poor people with Cancer.

9. Individually support in a small way ,three worthy students in their Academic pursuit..

10. Interact and support children in the neighborhood ., by helping with their academic doubts, and helping with their projects.

These are some of my endeavors ,apart from the quality time with my own family....and of course share Knowledge and try to help members in Xbhp..

Re: Speaking OUR CONSCIENCE CONSCIOUSLY and helping others

The Best Stress buster in the world would be according to me is to own a pet.. a Dog is the best stress buster..

they are the best companions.. when I was in Chennai.. we have a pet dog, a German shepherd.. his name is Max.. my bro takes care of him now that me and my parents have moved to Delhi..

The love Max shows in priceless.. the way he expresses his care, possessiveness and how he protects you.. Mind Blowing..

when I am angry... I take my bike out for a ride.. a slow calm ride till my mind is relaxed.. then i go back to what I was doing..

visiting the orphanage would help you understand that having a family is the best thing in this world.. all those people have been abandoned.. Learnt never ever to put down my parents in any way.. I will always be there for them.. because I have heard the cries of the people in orphanage that they have been abandoned by their own children

Rain.. I just love to ride my bike in rain.. it feels like a massage and relaxes the body pain..

another way to bust the stress.. go to youtube and watch the jokes there.. I usually watch the short films.. some are soo good.. and some are too lame.. makes me laugh

I have helped people who are left strangled late at night without fuel in their bikes.. I make them sit on the bike and tow them to the nearest petrol station.. but later learnt that I should avoid doing this because of a bad experience once when my left me strangled..

Doing Social Work.. when I was in college.. we had a group of Karizma owners in Chennai.. named Nytro-Z.. we used to do social work.. we cleaned up the Elliots beach.. the public toilet... and also painted the monument in the middle of the beach... Karl Schmidt Memorial.. People used to loo on the monument while we were painting.. that really hurt us but that didn't make us lose our confidence.. we even made small notes to teach the people the reason behind that monument..

During College.. when we used to feel heavy.. in the sense something is bothering us.. me and my friends bunk class and go play cricket/football/volleyball.. playing sports keeps us relaxed..

Apart from what I had listed ,at home, we used to have 6 to 9 Cats both mother and kittens, a Dog , and a squirrel for company....I stopped having pets for the past 6 years since me and my family felt very sad after their demise, and their memory still live within us....we used to have B'day party on the birthday of Pets..and give them small presents which they would like...Ofcourse neighborhood kids will be there to make the occasion special, and learn to be kind to other life forms.. I feel everyone must not only like other life forms but also inculcate the same within their family, and bring about a change in the surroundings they live in...

How do you guys manage funds for your hobby, biking, bike modifications, etc., I know most of us earn and it is quite easy to just withdraw and spend. I guess it would not be that easy for most of us who have regular commitments like loans, anniversaries, tuition fee, etc., etc., Borrowing funds for such activities is neither advised not it would be wise.

All doable ideas on this area would be of great help!
