• The Gymnasium thread: A guide

This thread should be used for all gym related discussions - cardio, weights, problems faced, diet followed, supplements (if any) etc.

An OT update:

The dog incident has decided not to leave me so quick. Just 2 months ago when I thought I'd recovered completely and I rejoined my gym for losing all the extra kilos I'd gained; I tore muscles in my right arm today in the gym while lifting weights.
All I heard was a pop and down goes the 7.5 kg dumb-bell!

But this time, I'm not giving up.

Bhai, I started with 2.5 kilos. Then did 5 kilos for a month. Guess, I wasn't strong enough yet for 7.5. Anyways, gym is off the grid for a few day now or maybe I'll just do the thighs and legs and back for 2 days this week.

To bring strength back into those muscles, do less weights but increase the number of sets....ie.,if you do 6 times per set with 5 Kgs, and 3 sets, maintain the same 5 Kgs weight but try to do 4 sets next time, then 5 sets and so on...till 10 sets, before increasing to next higher weight.
Always remember,to leave one day gap between the workouts.....if you have high muscle pain, then it means you are straining the muscles ...start with less strenuous exercises and slowly work your way up....remember to rest a day in between workouts to know how your body is taking it.....

Again an OT:-

When you are recovering from an injury then you must be more on pulleys and cables rather than free weight. Machines help in isolating muscles groups and help in strengthening the particular muscles.
As you grow stronger you gradually move on to free weights. Since you have torn your triceps stay away from triceps work out and also chest as while working out your chest you engage the triceps muscles.

7.5 kg is not much for tearing a muscle. Most probably in that particular set the position of arms changed causing the muscle to tear.
rreneav1987- Talking of weights i use 40 kg dumbbells for biceps with last set at 45 kg to fatigue the muscles fully. But the most weight i have seen in real life is by a friend of mine named Sanjay. He used to compete in state level body building championship and also arm wrestling.

He is around 6' tall and weighs 125 kg, pure muscles competition weight.

I have seen him working biceps with 65 kg dumbbells. Uses 100 kg barbells for biceps and fore arms. He will be standing and will be looking like Hulk. Another friend says that he has seen him working during competition days when he was lifting even more weight.

My favorite is working the chest and back muscles. Particularly doing the incline bar bell press. I love to do it.

Ya thats for sure as every person has his own capacity.

I started lifting at a very early stage. I was a school and district level football player during my high schools. I was quite lean so to build on muscles started lifting. Helped me a lot.

Then during 12th exam i left gymming and football due to studies(ICSE medium). Then after leaving Gym waist increased to 34". So after 12th and in engineering hit GYm again and have been continuing since.

Now since last four years waist is constant at 30". Weight for lifting is slowly increasing over years. Since now is winter have increased the work out.
