  • how many of you have been harassed at 5 star hotels

And wanna do something about it.

I have seen this many a times at big hotels where i eventually land up on my bike only, is the second rate treatment that they give. As if all bombs and terrorists are supposed to land up on bikes only, and our helmets are bombs.

I have faced this at 4 hotels in the capital, and one in NCR, namely Intercontinental ( the old one), the Grand ( where they were the least rude), Hyatt and Radisson. In Gurgaon also at Crown Plaza.

I mean are bikers not humans?? can the rich or intellectual enough to enter the hotel come in cars only??

From not been given entry to two wheelers at the Intercon, to being inquired as to why do i want to enter the hotel, right at the main gate. When i said i have to meet someone, they asked me if i had any documentation??? what!!! wtf!! documentation??

I told em, im there to meet my friend, and next time please ask relevant questions.

The parking for instance at hyatt was in the second basement in one corner, and then go up stairs to reach an elevator to reach the lobby. I mean get real ya.

I had a word with the lobby manager of the intercon also regarding this once. I told him, if i was to turn up in a 10 lakh car, the guards outside would rush to open the door for a tip. But if i was to turn up in a 10 lakh bike, i would have to park the bike, across the road in some shady parking lot... Thats really cool.. He dint know what to say, other than to cite security reasons..

I mean.. isnt it easier to bring a bomb inside a car, than a bike?? where are you gonna hide it???

I refused to leave my helmet in the parking ( would you leave a 2k AGV tied to your bike?? ). They had some big issue over that, and are taunting me that you wont be permitted to enter the hotel even. Rude as hell. Same thing at the hotel entrance. I told them specifically, that this is a very expensive helmet, keep it in a place where it wont get scratched. They kept it at the entrance counter inside the hotel, and by the time i came back, it was lying at the valet's desk outside the hotel lobby. I mean they scanned the helmet already, and still cannot respect a guest's wishes.
    ( crown plaza Gurgaon)

Please share your views, and if something should be done about this. I feel if we could send emails to these various hotels as a community, and maybe get them to review and respond to the situation as to taking care of guests on two wheelers. Im not asking for a valet service, just some dignity and respect.

This is a totally valid experience. In this country, if you a ride a bike you are barely short of being either a beggar or a terrorist when it comes to 5 star hotels. I have been facing this forever. Our country still has a very feudal setup. We may have state of the art cars and planes and all that. But our mindset is very feudal and from the middle ages. So if you are a biker, you have to leave your 2k helmet on the floor outside. That is what I do with my 18K Shark helmet.

thanks.. sorry i pestered you for approval.

edit - ken 18k helmet??? shouldnt we do something about this??? i mean, if hotels can have so much for security, im sure they can also arrange for stowage of helmets, and a decent enough parking space not miles from the lobby. And a lil bit more respect to the hotel staffers towards bikers.

Rightly said JD, a guy in an Alto will get more respect than a guy on Ducati when it comes to 5 star hotels. I avoid taking my bike to any of the 5 star hotels at all whenever I am in town. If I have to go, I usually take a lift from my colleagues or friends since I don't own a car. Some hotels do NOT even allow bikes inside, forget sub-standard parking. The ITC Gardenia in Bangalore is one such hotel.

the circumstances made this to happen, many unfortunate things had happened ..bombings,terrorists... we can't blame them for extra checking who is on a Two-wheeler because they are more suspectable as a terrorist or any anti social elements than the one who comes in a car ...they think like that and thats y our country is prone to deadly attacks ..they presume everything

but why harassing? this is not acceptable, are the people on two-wheeler not human? are the people who come in cars are Gods? VIP's?whats the matter with them...? the problem is they dont expect a motorist to end up at a five star hotel ....as kenda said our mindset is very feudal ..

thats utter bullshit to what happened to you. Sorry to hear about it. I was unaware of such ruthless behaviour in hospitality industry in India. Such lame security clause and measures doesn't help at all to anyone. It's true, that its easier to buy a bike than a car but terrorists don't shop under a budget. Its just another example of how weak and hollow our standards are when its comes to "fighting terrorism". I bet there ain't proper security in and around Auto Expo Venue as well currently.

thats really outrageous. Imagine some actor coming on his SBK. Till the moment he doesnt takes off his helmet, hes a common guy. I think in the country, the biking scenario is yet to grow to a level from 'economy' to a 'class'. A 800 car is still in a more respectful category than a guy on his Busa.
But how do we overcome this, still a question. Better to avoid two wheels on this occasions.
Sorry to hear about your treatment buddy..!!

"better to avoid two wheelers" . Mate thats the argument. I have three cars at home, and 5 bikes. But i prefer my bikes to my cars, and i expect that i be treated as an equal at big hotels. Going in a car is abiding by their policies, whereas they should be catering to all guests equally. I reach quicker, prefer riding my bikes, and am more comfortable, unless its raining or super cold.

Some how, Never faced this situation in all the hotels that I visited in Hyderabad. Bikes do have seperate parking in most of the hotels here. We cant blame the parking attendants or the security personnel. we know that they dont make the rule...the ones in the cabins needs to taken down.

Forget about a 5Star hotel, a kirana fellow will treat you differently if you went by a car.

It is all about appearances. Don't get worked up about it. Small people, small minds forget it.

i know this thing inside out, cos i am a lobby manager at the leela palace bangalore. And honestly i feel so sheepish when some one comes and complains about bikes not being allowed to be parked there. Being a biker it hurts me too and to add to that our GM himself is a die hard biker who owns 2 harleys but his explanation to this is simple, parking space in a 5star is always at a premium so like it or not we can't allow bikes. The security thingy is pure bullshit. There've been instances where i've had to allow few bikes in after the owners have been persistant. My advice meet the lobby manager and tell him to show you the rule where it says two wheelers are not allowed or better still ask him to take the responsibility of the safety of your bike . he'll have to give in. trust me
                      respect ma authoritae!!

A very valid topic brought up..

The situation is kind of similar here. On my bike, I have been to Windsor Manor in Bangalore. And yes, the scene for bikes at this Hotel is exactly like is being discussed here. They do not allow bikes to even enter the hotel gates, & politely have a decent parking area outside the hotel. The parking area is ok, but again, its outside the hotel, so is as good as they not respecting bikes. But at Le Meridien, they have parking area for bikes in the premises, & its pretty good.
I don't know about the other star hotels here, but just to give an example here, I'm sure a lakh plus car (Nano & upwards) will get more respect than a lakh plus bike (ZMR & upwards)..

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.
