And I don't blame people for treating us so badly.

Look around on the road. I hate these freaks on two wheels as much as anyone else. Responsible bikers are too rare to make an impression on the average non-biker mind.

Yes I agree quite a few people on the two wheels are setting a very bad example for the rest and the image stays.

I am however more worried about the social profiling that is taking place looking at what a man rides or drives. Like theironhorse mentioned a person who is capable of buying a sedan may still ride a bike for his joy. Even if its about a person who rides a bike since he cant afford a car, what gives the world a right to look down upon him? After all a biker also pays his share of road tax, contributes way less to the pollution and crowd on road vis a vis a four wheel driver. What makes him so downtrodden in the view of certain people as to not allow him same privileges as a car owner on road or at certain establishments? I mean what makes one not allow two wheels into hotel drive and drop zone? What makes one not allow helmets inside restaurants, inside malls?

Yeah.. Its been a nightmare.. but we're fighting for our rights.
      - Here are the root causes
      1. Murders, Car nappers, Snatchers are using motorcycles as their getaway vehicles (Quick and Easy Out of the scene)

      2. Accidents are also rampant, Philippines sold 40,000 Motorcycles in Q1 of this year and that includes Youngsters who doesn't know the rules and Road Courtesy, they ride like the have 100 Lives

Its been similar here in India too. Specially in delhi, where cases of chain snatching robbery etc are rampant. One can find Police barricades kept and bikers being specially targeted. Reason being the same as you mentioned. Bikes provide an easy way out for these criminals. I dont mind that and can live with it. After all security is important too. But the attitude that every biker out on road is irresponsible and a brat, that I cant stand.

Well put up, and agreed. There is discrimination against 2-wheeler riders everywhere, unless you have one of those 'DHOOM' bikes.
Personally, I believe its a small price I pay, considering the joy of riding a bike.

A similar topic exists, but specific to discrimination at start hotels: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/coffee-l...ar-hotels.html

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

What I am wondering is, cant there be a solution to this? Cant we do anything to ensure these establishments provide necessary facilities for cars and bikes alike? Is there a rule that makes it mandatory to provide minimum parking facilities while building a hotel or mall? If it is there, does it distinguish between number of wheels??

Well I took up the matter of no provision for safe keeping of the helmets at mall premises with DLF Promenade (one of the prominent malls in NCR) in their Facebook Page. All I could manage was pleasantries and 'we are striving to help our custommers and look forward to solving your issue' assurances. Pasting the screen shot here for reference.

Hope they do come up with something.

This thread is depressing. Almost enough to make me rethink about buying that bike.

Perhaps bringing up a dead thread

I have many such instances - holiday inn (pune), trident (mumbai) and such...However, I would like to mention my stay at taj blue diamond (KP Pune).

This was two years ago and I happened to visit pune for 1 week business trip. I was all set to haggle with security. surprisingly the guard gave me a neutral welcome and pointed me to an area marked for motorcycle parking next to the building.

During checkin, I requested the lady at desk to allow me to park in basement if they have (she had not seen the bike yet). She called security and informed him. Security guy was ok and he accompanied me to show me basement. As we approached the bike, their supervisor came forward and understood that I wished to park in basement. He suggested that bike is safe here than there since basement would be used by drivers of parked cars and little out of sight. As I stopped to think, he proactively asked me with a tinge of doubt...."If I give you a slot in front of hotel would you be ok? It is a car slot and used only for temporary visitors. Our main entrance guards would be standing near it so no one would go near."

I was elated to hear this and took the offer. I parked there for a week and the guards would also help cover and uncover the bike while i took it out for a spin.

I am yet to come close to such real 5star experience anywhere else

Saw this thread and remembered my personal experience. It was the month of Oct 2015 and we our Organisation had arranged a grand party at ITC Chola Chennai and lot of high level govt officials were attending it. I reached the hotel early to do the preparation work for the party and while going inside didnt have much problem, the guards directed me to the two wheeler parking which was big (basement 1-2) and already lot of two wheelers were there. While returning from party I started when all guests started to leave, almost 90% of guests were high profile and came in own / govt cars. I usually carry a backpack with me all times of the day, and that day also had a backpack, so while starting from the hotel all the cars were just left to go, but my bike was stopped and i was asked by the guard that what work i had inside and whether i had any gatepass for laptop. I told him had come for the party and didnt have any gatepass, thought the question answer took 30 secs only, all it matters to them is the person is on a bike and not on a car.

Re: how many of you have been harassed at 5 star hotels

I honestly believe the situation has substantially improved since 2010, when this thread started.

For instance, JW Mariott, Taj Westend and Le Meridian allow you to park your super bikes right across their front doors to the sides. I presume this is done to give the hotel a more premium look, but I ain't complaining- I get a perfect parking spot right at the hotel doors and adequate security protection.

Forum Mall in Koramanagala had a dedicated super bike parking bay. It's a cordoned off area and serves the purpose.

UB City has a dedicated super bike parking option as well. It might be slightly costlier than the regular option but well worth it.

A lot of bars/pubs allow you to park your superbikes on their footpath/next to their entrance door. Biere Club I know does this. So does SmokehouseDeli.

I do believe the situation has improved and hotels and restaurants know that allowing these bikes to be parked across the entrance only increases footfall and attention
Every Motorcycle has a tale to be told and there is no greater privilage in the life of a rider than to have truly understood what his Motorcycle stands to tell. Some of the greatest stories in the world are not written, they are experienced.

I for once went to Le Royal Meridian in Chennai for a AutoCAD promo, whilst I was in college. I went in my dads Spelndor (hell yeah). The security guy dressed up in Safari with a walkie-talkie at the entrance told me the loading dock is in the back.

I asked what does loading dock has to do with me, He apparently mistook me as a guy who had come to clear of the laundry left behind the hotel. I was stunned by his comments, Called up the Manager, showed my invitation to the event. He apologized to me and personally led me to the area.

                                That's the sad state.
