Hey guys i was searching the net for cameras..
here is my short list:
1.Nikon p80
2.Nikon L110
3.Canon sx130is
4.canon sx120is

Iam a beginner in photography.Aryan bhai,sunny bhai and other xbhpians clicks made me to take up photography seriously
I'll be getting it from USA,as my uncle will be visiting us in Jan 2011.
suggest me a good cam based on my requirements.
Requirements:
*It should be good for tourers and motography
*VFM
*service and accessories availability in Bangalore.

Am a noob in cameras,so you can add any other better camera if you know.

@Manu: I have used the SX120 IS on a couple of ocassions and the L110 on one ocassion, and I found both these cameras at par. Decent resolution with a huge zoom lens is what these bridge cameras are all about.

Given the sort of requirement you have (touring), either of these two should suit your needs just fine. Just give both of them a try, and see that the ergonomics suits you followed by the features, etc.

Canon SX130i according to me is gud nd latest one.

It has been my friend philosopher and guide regarding all kinds of cameras for the last 3 years. The ratings and reviews are very fair and it also helps you find the cheapest deal for your preferred model. That way you can get it shipped to your uncle's place and all he has to do is bring it over. Less hassle for both of you.

If I were you, I would stay away from at least the Canon SX120IS.. personal experience, it tends to overexpose every photo. No matter what settings you change, everything is over-exposed.

The SX130IS is very new and we have very few reviews currently to work with but I would still be skeptical considering my experience with the SX120IS.

Nikon P80 has a battery which can click a maximum of 200-250 shots on a single charge (without flash) which frankly is very very low for a li-ion battery. Anyways it was obsolete back in 2008(when I was buying).

Nikon Coolpix L110 was really a minor upgrade over the L100 and it is a decent budget superzoom. It uses AA batteries so it could be an advantage on the field if you don't mind carrying a truckload of Duracells. Still the backup of a AA battery can never come close to a Li ion. And if you are not planning on staying in places where you wont get electricity for 7 days at a time, the advantages offered are far outweighed by the disadvantages.

If you want something compact with a good zoom range, try something from the Travel Zoom Cameras.

I myself own a 2 year old Panasonic FZ28. It happened to be on the top of the Extended Zoom category on this particular site. Anyways its not really hard to say that Panasonic these days is making really superb NON DSLR cameras. Buy one and you will never regret it. My picks(depending on your budget) would be the

Canon SX30IS ($370)
Panasonic Lumix FZ40 ($310)
Panasonic Lumix ZS7 ($210)

The features I was looking for were:
*light weight
*superb battery backup (mine clicks 700 odd pics on a single battery charge )
*Wide angle lens
*Decent zoom range

From your selection, it seems you are also looking for a similar feature set. Its not the bells and whistles and the incredible graphics/interface which matter on a camera. It is the picture quality which should be the sole criterion for selection of a Camera. So, choose wisely.

P.S.: If you are a motographer, you can easily install a car charger on the bike and charge batteries on the move.

P.P.S.: I waited 2 months for my aforementioned camera at the time for it to launch in India so that I will get peace of mind (= an unrivaled 3 year Panasonic India Warranty, Canons come with a 2 year warranty, Nikon with 1 year.).

Im planning to buy a Canon 1000D in Mumbai. Croma is selling it for 22,575 with the 18-55mm lens.

Any place you guys know of where I can get a better deal? Also im looking for the 18-55mm IS lens (Croma doesn't sell it with that but heard its worth the extra cash)?

Any pointers to finding decent second hand DSLRs in Mumbai?

Last year I bought my cam. and I had the same requirement (a beginner photographer graduating from a P2S and aiming for a DSLR in next round). I went through various first hand user experiences of super zoom cameras and finally physically evaluated all the cameras in a shop to decide which one suits my needs best. I am using Panasonic FZ35 and I really appreciate it for being a great package. It weighs around 360 gm and it is compact than most competition. It has a decent lens(Leica) and sufficient optical zoom. Its Image Stabilization is better than its predecessor and it comes with HD video recording with Dolby surround sound recording . The only shortcomings are absence of hot shoe (additional flash) and absence of movable LCD, When compared to Canon (SX20IS) I found that 1) Canon SX20IS is obnoxiously heavy around 200 gms more, 2) Canon SX20IS used 4 AA batteries (messy), 3) Low light noise more in Canon SX20IS, 4) Absence of RAW in Canon SX20IS. I bought an additional battery for back up and never had any other concerns thereafter. The new cams FZ40 and FZ100 have even better specs. on paper but you may take some time to get first hand reviews. Currently FZ28 sells on Amazon for 500+ $ (tested excellent super zoom cam. ) All I want to say is that Panasonic suffers in market share of Super zoom cameras in India , though they offer excellent cameras and VFM. PS- Just my opinion based on RnD I did last year.

both are for new ones, but u can ask dem whether dey deal in used one. but i think in reliable u can get used one's too.


Panasonic FZ 35 is good camera as per the reviews i got from various users. image quality is gud, light weight.

Go for any canon model which comes under 8k or 9k, canon is best in dis range

i am a complete noob in photography and am planning to buy a new camera within the budget of 15-17k....
pls recommend a camera which is handy and can take good quality pics.....
also i considered buying a nokia n8 instead of a digicam for my photographic needs.... Will that be sufficient or is a digicam in a whole different league?

Find and replace SX20IS with SX10IS, FZ35 with FZ28.. and this is my exact statement.My FZ28 is 2 years old.. no wonder it is selling for $500 . (I guess there is very low stock of the outdated model hence the pricing )

super zoom camera

Hai all
i am planning for my first camera . Right now i only have a budget of 10 k so was planning to get a simple point and shoot camera from nikon or canon .
Then my friend who is coming from US informed me that for the same budget
i can get a super zoom camera from US as there are many offers related to the thanks giving day .
Checked the net and found some sweet deals . Now after seeing those deals i am very much interested to get a super zoom (optical zoom > 18 x )
camera .

Now i am confused between
Kodak easy share z981 (199 $ )
and Olympus SP 800UZ (250 $) (i have to slightly increase my budget for this but its ok if it is worth )

My concern is will i get warranty in india if i get a camera from US ?
Which camera from the above two i should go for ?
Which one have better service back up here?
If you know any other camera which is better than this in the same budget (max 250 $) please suggest .
Please note i am very much interested to get a super zoom camera with descent image quality and performance .
