hey no bro, u got me all wrong. But its my fault, I apologize, it was a very vague statement. I was just emphasizing its hugeness and bulkiness.

N91 was an amazing phone when it first launched, with a 3.5mm audio jack and an outstanding music quality for which it has set a benchmark that is still being compared today. Yes N91 has all those features, as expected from a smartphone. The resolution is not as good as the N80, the camera lacks autofocus and pictures come all blurred most of the times.

But can it really be compared with an I-Phone, which is from a different generation than the N91? There are more recent Nokia models which are set to compete with it. Thats what I meant actually.

P.S:- I will not be selling my N91 while getting a new phone, because the price I will get for it now cannot do justice to this phone. I'd rather save one more month, and add that money to the new phone.

N96 is more or less like N95 with advanced Navigation system and visual advancements. N95 too have the navigation system but it is not as advanced as N96. N95 might be obslete but only from sale point of view. The features that you get in N95 are still one of the best in the mobile world - GPS, accelerometer based display, 8GB, 3D-Graphics Acceleration, dual speaker, 5MP camera AND...TV OUT !!!

Good to hear that. It kind of broke my heart to hear that N95 is absolete . But I would like to know about the GPS. As far as I know N95 doesn't have the voice based GPS where as N96 does. Correct me if I am wrong and let me know if it is somethng which is there by default on N95.

N82 and N95/8GB are the only two 5mp camera phones that have the same camera specifications, same focal length, same size of lens except the flash! Both of them have the best 5 MP camera implemented yet on Nokia.
Myself on the way still holds 2.6 yrs old N73ME. So what, N73 speakers are still best among N-series sets!

sry dude but your sources are wrong .. N95 and N96 and any other GPS enabled phones have the same GPS """"DEVICE""""
but the """"" SOFTWARES """" keep upgrading . my N95 was delivered with V1 of maps but i updated it to V2 ..
and the voice navigation your talking about is a paid servie which is free for the first 3 months after that you have to pay for it ...

^^ yep GPS devices used in N82, N95 and N96 are same.
however, there is one thing i would like to know. Do, N82 and N95 have different GPS software versions? And if yes, then is it true that, the updated versions have better performance? I mean, i tried using GPS on both N82 and N95 in my company's basement. But, imo i found N82 quite better while establishing links with satellites. May be, i dont know...it can be an intution. can someone deliver a little "gyan" on this mobile - GPS thing? :|

There are multiple things wrt gps when you consider the 3 phones: N95, N82 & N96:

                                1. The actual physical GPS device - On the N95, the antenna is below the keypad, while on the N82 it is near the top/speaker. I do not know where it is on the N96, but this makes a signifncant difference in terms of the receiver sensitivity. The N82 is a lot better than the N95 as a GPS device. The physical chip might be same on all the phones, but the antenna placement and sensitivity can have significant effects on the performance of the device.

                                2. The phone firmware - This also contains the GPS device firmware. The original N95 firmware caused GPS fixes to ages. Nokia then added AGPS feature to the later firmware updates and this fixed a lot of the problems with the N95. The N82 and N96 have AGPS in all the firmware versions. Newer firmware on the N95 and N82 also add geotagging feature to the camera feature on the phones. The phone firmware also has a bearing on the speed for initial fix. Using AGPS on my N82 I can get excellent signal strength and very fast initial fix. To use AGPS, you need to have a GPRS connection to Nokia's AGPS servers. I have a data plan on my phone, so I have never faced much problems with AGPS. I do not know how this would affect phones that use limited data plans that are activated by default by operators in India. In those data plans, mostly you have to go through the operator's gateway and the AGPS servers might not be available. Pls check with your operator on this.

                                3. The applications on the phone that uses GPS. On my N82, the phone came preinstalled with Nokia Maps 1.0 & GPS data application. I upgraded the firmware to latest version, which did not seem to change these apps. I then got newer Nokia Maps 2.0 and Nokia sports tracker. I also use Google Maps app with the in built gps. The apps are user upgradable and there are tons of alternative apps available. If you want, you can also make your own app to use the gps unit and install it on the phone.

                                4. Voice guided navigation is a function of the Nokia Maps software. On most newer Nokia phones with GPS sold in india, Nokia is giving free 3 month subscription for the voice guided navigation software. Having used it in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi, I can say that the software is pretty useless. Unless you have your destinations marked, or the type that you can find yourself on the map, the software is rarely able to find an address. Surprisingly in Mumbai, the system worked best but could only find rough locations based on major area names. In Delhi it fails to even find major colonies. In Hyderabad I tried it for only one trip to a location I had previously marked and the thing worked decently. The software does auto re-routing in case you take a different route and at times can make you go thru very crowded areas and not take you through more obvious roads. Overall, not worth the effort. You can use the software to generate a static route and that can be done w/o the navigation subscription for free.

                                5. Data for Nokia maps can be either downloaded using a data connection or preloaded onto the memory card of the phone. If you are travelling outside india and would want to save up on gprs roaming costs or if you will be using a local SIM card w/o gprs then do consider using the Nokia Maps loader to load maps of your destination before you leave. The maps for india currently only cover some major cities. Outside the cities, the maps mostly do not show town names or highways. This is something which even the low quality base maps of dedicated GPS units show pretty nicely. The maps for the cities which are covered are pretty extensive, but some areas are still not covered. e.g. I would expect G. Noida to be covered by delhi maps, but they are not. Even the greater noida expressway is not there on the map data of nokia maps. OTOH i found that Mumbai maps were pretty detailed and extremely accurate.

My suggestion is to not take the Nokia maps very seriously. Install google maps app, get a full data plan from your operator and switch between the google maps and nokia maps app while travelling. Google's satellite view also goes into much greater detail than Nokia Map's satellite view and in a lot of areas w/o maps the satellite view can give you good idea of roads, etc.

To take track logs with a Nokia GPS phone, use the sports tracker app. This app can generate extremely detailed track logs at 1s intervals when GPS filtering is set to off. This by itself makes the GPS unit in the phone extremely useful. The number of track points is only limited by battery capacity and the space on your memory cards. 1MB is enough to store tons of track logs. The logs can be exported as csv files and kml files besides the facility to directly upload on the net. I think I will try out posting photos directly from the phone with gps data embedded in the photo on this weekend trip to binsar. Would be interesting to let people know where you are and how that place looks :-)
