This is a great idea and I thought of this 2-3 days back too, but was unsure if it would work. Now that you've stated that the idea works, I'm going to try this for sure... Thanks, Nikhil Pereira.
I don't race, I don't perform stunts, I don't cut across lanes and/ or cut other vehicles, I love to wear my helmet and follow traffic rules/ laws and I prefer safety over surprise... If that is boring and/ or sissy as per you, so be it.

I am daily applying more polish on the spot, and then shiner. The patch is there but it is not visible unless you see it very closely (1 feet distance)..

Recently got some new sport shoes, will have to see how it takes my bike's gear lever.

5 pages of discussion and still no solution use this!

if u feel the tape would lose grip remove the old one and re-wrap it! simple!

for day to day riding u know wat u can do now

there's this sponge based housing generally seen in the A/C routing of the car....(maruti 1000/esteem/zen)
get ur hands on that, you can cover the round tip of the lever with that,it's black in colour, and its very soft..........
i've already posted this earlier and this prob don't seem to get solved........

              will be posting the pics,,,,,,,

Get shifter pads if you really care..
Though I use a toe only everyday rather aggressively and nothing really goes bad.

Though you can see a black spot on your converse "Red N Dead" (my name) Ones..hehe..

Tried the solution of using insulation tape but with a slight modification. I wrapped the toe shifter with one round of thick double-side gum tape (or foam tape) which is white in colour. Upon that, I wrapped black insulation tape so that it doesn't look awkward. Now, the lever is smooth and thick! Will post pics tomorrow.

I used a cheap wristband over the left shoe. They are soft on the shoes and thick at the same time, so no harm done on your Guccis and Woodlands. Those can be found at roadside stalls for 20-30 bucks each. Just wash them once a week if you step in the dirt too much.

                            my advise- buy CATERPILLAR shoes.
the toughest out there.have 2 pairs.have been going thru my abuse for 2 yrs.
and the leather looks good even after numerous nights of literally swimming thru water logged streets..........

Hi, I ride Hunk and I also had this problem of Half (Toe) Gear Shift lever. Today, I got it changed from a private mechanic and have fitted a full shift lever of CBZ. Mechanic had to do some adjustment. it does not fit that proper as the original one fits but it works fine. i have to try for couple of days and see how it works.

Guys, fitting the heel&toe lever is not viable for all bikes. eg.R15
The tape or anything stuck to the toe shifter does not stay for too long, due to the curvature of the rod.

@diffuser911: Your suggestion has worked the best for me. I was getting worried seeing the patch starting to form on my Lee Cooper formal shoes-brown&black. Now I use a wristband&trust me it works the best. No need to tie anything on the lever too-just stretch the band a bit so that it covers the front portion of your shoe. While getting off, take out the band&walk away! Simple! Problem solved-now I ride my R15 daily without bothering about spoiling all my expensive shoes (I have about 11 pairs, all best brands)!
