Ah ok! so it actually means that the wheel moving is an end product, the maximum a engine can output can be measured at the crank because there is minimal energy loss, whereas calculating anywhere else in the system may result in much of the power being lost as vibes, got it now, my bad

Transmission losses on our Indian bikes are normally 10-15%. Pulsars are around 20% lesser at the rear wheel from the quoted figure. Do the math now. the point is Bajaj over claims their bhp figures. Its a media stunt, and a layman does not have a dyno to verify.
Just think over this. Why would a karizma (rated 17ps at crank) weighing 150kgs smoke a p200(rated 18ps at the crank) weighing around 140kgs. Are the company quoted figures true? Put it on a dyno and u'll know the truth.
I once put a p180 V2 on the dyno and the rear wheel power was 12.2bhp. While the company quoted was 16.5ps. A karizma was pumping 14.6bhp at the rear wheel, when the company quoted figure is 17ps. What does that mean? The karizma had the least transmission loss that day.
World over too, 8-10% transmission loss is acceptable.

^^Thanks for clearing all the details Joel.

O.T : U have had a ride on my bike(Pulsar). Any idea, rough or vague of what figures it should have been putting out?

          +1 to Joel.

that is hydroxide's bike, which isnt one of the slowest - heck after multiple rebores it did the fastest ironbutt known in India so far - 1813km

I'd love to see any RTR overhaul that. No really

            Arre.. look who's here

So Hydro's bike was the one which was dyno-ed by Joel?

OT:And didn't an RTR almost beat that record? Now Tau don't underline "almost", but I think the RSA's group Ironbutt had an RTR which did/almost broke the 1813 km mark, albeit with much controversy. I'm still unclear about what happened

I think it was a A150. The avg he got was somewhere around 28-32kmpl for the entire run. By the end the screws in his spects were loose

Yup, it was Hydro's bike. It was almost new and a few thousands after the running-in was complete. Did 2 runs on the dyno. Back in 2006 I guess? Must say his bike was the better one in the lot.

                          hey guys i have a 180 V1 aswell..

as of now.. its got a pair of after market alloys.

got the digital meter in from the ug3's.

put the gas shocks( but its not all that great on the v1 due to the diffrence in tyre size.. for me anyways.. )

put in the K&N .. and i must say it pretty much turned out to be a investment for sound.

slight increase in the accleration yes. and have heating issues (not much though) because i did not upjet.

but all in all.. its a v1 it still does what its good at

                          speed torque and more speed..

next in line is the NGK.. i heared about the BOSH ones too in another thread i started about NGK.

                          lets see now..

                          DTSi

                          already 2 sparks !!
                          Bosh twin spark = 2=2 =4
                          NGK howmany ??

Aparajith's bike was running a really huge mainjet and the mixture was never lean. No wonder the overheating was far lesser. But would need strict high octane gas to stop pinging.
But the point is, is it really worth it? It indeed had loads of torque, but where is that much needed outright performance?
Thats where bikes like the RTR and even R15 for that matter takes the cake. Everytime u work on the engine, it SHOULD lead to a propotional improvement in power and performance. With 50cc more, if the gain is only 2-3bhp, is it worth the effort? Frankly the P200 does not produce anything more than 15 odd bhp. 18hp is crap. Who is willing for a dyno test, we can prove this. And a p220 does nothing more than some 17-18bhp at the crank.

@Apar - never, even if I get one for free.

                              Really???
My friend had dynoed his P200 (aftermarket CDI, some Porting n Polish on the intake & exhaust, the rest are standard), and his bike granted 18,2HP and 17,Nm of torque
                              On wheel for sure...

in Indonesia, his bike will smoke out for sure a bike with higher displacement such as Scorpio (Yamaha YBR225,225cc like ZMA has) that has 19HP and 18.6Nm on crank (on dyno just 16,xx HP)...

Many Pulsar biker in here,, use a 70mm big bore piston...
so it'll increase the capacity into 217,xx cc...

                                bore x stroke : 70mm x 56.4mm

                                so they have 3mm oversized for P200 & 6.5mm oversized for P180..
for P180, changing the boring is needed...
