And about those who say (not say as much as curse) nano for congestion in cities will find that these nanos on the other hand will bring better roads and public transport to their metros, grater tax advantages to them, will improve the service and quality of the product from their dealers (obviously by reducing the number of customers) and will certainly add to their sex appeal by 50-60%!

IMHO there is a reason why there are fewer riders in developed world then drivers.

It will take ten years to see bigger and better roads !!!

In my past ten years of motorcycling all I have noticed is the increasing congestion on the highways with the increase in the number of small cars. And now a days this is the main factor that has led to dangerous driving on the highways. Have noticed it all over the country. There is a small congestion, read a small town on the highway and the driver tries to make amends by over speeding !!! And I believe that the most ill mannered vehicles on road are the small cars and SUVs.

Of course illiteracy of drivers is another factors !!!

"Tata Motors dealers are in an unforeseen situation. They are facing nearly 10-15 percent cancellations for the Nano models booked during the booking period in April 2009. Most of the bookings are coming from those who have opted for a loan and are not willing to pay interest on the un-applied loan. This accounts for cancellation of nearly a tenth of booking for Nano models.

There are also customers who are not really willing to wait too long for the delivery of the model either. They are ready to switch to another car model at a little higher price than to wait for a car for next few months. This is especially true for customers who are at the tail-end of the bookings and have received delivery period or end 2010 or early 2011. The top end model of Nano costs Rs. 1.80 lakh whereas the base model of M800 costs Rs. 1.92 lakh. Customers are willing to shell out more money to own a car today than to wait for a car for one year. Tata Motors had launched all nano new cars with much fanfare and opened its booking period earlier in April this year.

Tata Motors has already faced similar situation when it had first launched Tata Indica in 1999."

Oh leave this thread. The nano didn't affected the sales of 2 wheelers as we all know. Do we really need discussions going around this thread?
I m not particularly mentioning any member here.

          First things first:

The nano's production has not reached its full potential yet, which has created this waiting lag and that is a big problem barring people from buying it. Also when large scale production becomes possible and other such products will hit the market (heard a maruti product which will be replacing the 800 as BS-4 hits cities will debut at auto expo 2010: source econ. times) the cost factor and choice will not be that much of problem!
The reason why commuter class motorcycles becoming dinosaurs in cities is bound to happen is because the common man will always prefer these super minis to a bike as they are rider by need not by choice like you and me! Don't believe me? Ask your dad!
          When in doubt...... Gas it!

the other end of the spectrum

i was jus wonderin , whether launch of high-end motorcyles will affect the sales of cars. ie instead of buyin a car for 6-10lakhs buy a bike instead .
i for one, am seriously considering this option.

yeah, i know that customer profile/needs/demands of a person buying a car will different from a person willing to shell out the same amount of money for a bike.

but if only price point is the criteria considered , then i thnk bike sales too affect car sales ( though not in such a big number that car manufacturers will loose their sleep)

i mean a bike worth somewhere in 40 - 50k range and giving a mileage of approx 55- 60 kmpl can be replaced by a car worth 1.2lakh+ and giving a mileage of 23 [ under test conditions ].......... on road we cannot comment!!

no commuter can dream of it friends
even the r15 gives better mileage

untill n unless peolpe are commuting in numbers....... etc
so i dont think it will affect the commuter segment

              and also
how can anyone compare the r15 n nano
even though costs are nearly the same

r15 is a status symbol........... a performer.............. a class thing
people who buy are definitely bike enthusiasts i think
otherwise there are maruti car available for nearly 30 - 50 k
people would go for it !!!!!!!!! not the r15

i think nano can only affect the second hand car market
and the maruti will suffer a serious set back

n the only way it can affect the bike market is some parents preferring nano for their children instead of " DANGEROUS BIKES "..

we cant predict even a simple thing at the moment
the pros n cons of nano will decide it is a HIT performance wise or not
sales wise it will break WORLD RECORDS .......making tata one of the richest car co of the world...... nano might also be start being exported
I share same thoughts, i also think Nano might become a girl's car. Parents who are thinking of buying a scooter for a girl might go ahead with Nano, safety reasons ... All in all Nano might turn out as a daily commuter for most of the people in India.
