      • Queries about renewing RC

I am getting a RX135 in average condition for 5000 rupees. No insurance, RC expired about a year ago and got no tax receipt. Would it be possible to change the ownership to my name and renew RC? I am in Assam BTW. Would it be a very complicated process? According to Tax Schdule: Transport Department, Government Of Assam and Fees: Transport Department, Government Of Assam The fees will be 1000 rupees one time tax for 5 year+renewal fee of 60+fitment certificate fee of 100+change of ownership fee of 30=1190 rupees. Nothing is mentioned about the green tax, do I need to pay it? Also is it possible to renew RC after it expires?

Won't be a problem the only you need to check if the owner us still there. As if the owner is not available then that cause a problem as the rto want to see the owner as well when the registration expires.

The owner is available, but the problem still remains. The motorcycle isn't likely to pass the fitness test before rebuild and I can't start working on the bike till it's registered on my name as I'm afraid the owner might refuse to sell it to me after rebuild. I will have to take the bike to DTO office in town 16 kms away and I'm afraid the cops might cause problem driving the bike there. Also what I will answer if the guys at DTO office asks how did you bring the bike here? The RC as I mentioned earlier expired a year ago and I heard insurance is needed before I could renew RC and no company will insure a vehicle with expired RC. The question about green tax still remains, do I need to pay it or not?

EDIT: Neelesh, I'm trying to call you but I get "Aapke account mein yeh subidha uplobdh nahi hain." Tomorrow I'm going to the BSNL guys to fix this issue.

Hi, guys. Nice to see this thread, just what I need.

I have a Pulsar Classic 150 circa 2002, registered in Sri Ganganager (Rajasthan). Insurance, PUC is vaild. LTT paid to Rajasthan for 15 years. From 2002 till date, I have been variously posted in J & K, NCR, MP and Gujarat. Whenever my bike used to be stopped by traffic cops due to the out of state number, I used to be let off as I am a serving officer in the Army - most traffic cops, countrywide (barring Karnataka, Kerala and TN) acknowledge that as members of my tribe are posted to any place for not more than two years, changing the regn number for a 12 month+ stay (as per the MVA) is a real pain in the rear.

The last time I was on leave and riding around town in Pune, I was stopped again. The highly cooperative and knowledgeable cop advised to get a copy of a particular rule which permits Central Govt employees to retain the original regn for a period of three years, till they are in service. I had a copy of this rule back in 1995 when I been doing a course of instruction in Bangalore but have lost it since.

Can anybody help me? If I had had to change my regn numbers as per the MVA, I would have had a collection of about 20 odd number plates for the 10 different states I have seen till now! Stupid laws, what can one do...

                    Hi mate

U still in service? do you need a copy of the rule book to allow u to carry on with one number?

if u have had registered ur bike with 10 state u were posted in, u would have landed with only 10 number plates

Yes, I am still in service; in fact, have been for the past 22 years.

No, I don't need the whole rule book, just a reference of the particular rule.

                      Front + rear = 2. 2x 10 = 20

Hey guys, I may shift to Pune next month from Karnataka. I'm thinking of taking my KA regd bike with me. I don't plan to stay there for more than 11 months. I'll come back to KA after that. So, what are all the things and docs that I'd need to do and take?

Get all the original papers (get them laminated if not, Its raining till August)
Get PUC a day before you come.
Insurance, Original RC and your Driving license.

As get a NOC from Your Karnataka RTO.

The thing is, Maharashtra Police will ask you to get MH number, say you are here just for some days or a moth maximum and you are here jst to rain around. You don't have your home even ere, stays at relative home.

Because, now they will ask you to pay Road tax and get the Slip.

Getting MH number also need road tax.
Which is gonna be 8.5% (take9% in round figure) of Bike's value.
                              I didn't liked it, I guess you surprised ?

Now ride like a coyboy, hiding yourself.

Whenever caught say the same story. And show your recently done PUC as proof that you just came.

                              Why NOC is important :
They will say the bike is of stolen and this & that. And ask you for NOC at last when they don't have anything else to say.
I didn't got my NOC and now its hard to go back Delhi with Bike.
So better get NOC and carry it along with your bike papers.

Always be nice to Maharashtra police.
They think them self as superior.

Else 50-100rs gonna work sometime too.

                                Hi PCGamer,

its real simple, we have covered this in the past as well.

if you are not coming for more than a year, then there is no need to get NOC from Karnataka as once you get the NOC you can term your bike as a NOMAD and that does not belong to any state.

The trouble you will face once you want to take the bike back to Karnataka RTO and have to pay bribe to transport the bike to Karnataka, and once again at karnataka to get the previous issued NOC cancelled.

The Rule says that once you have the NOC it has to be submitted with the RTO it has been issued to..
And hence if you have NOC you have to register ur bike in Maharashtra and then once leaving for Karnataka you have to take NOC again from Maharashtra for Karnataka.

So the correct procedure is to get the following:

Invoice of the Bike (actual cost paid to purchase)
Original Driving License and RC book.
PUC can be occupied within a weeks time of you entering Pune however you should carry the transport receipt all the time for this 1st week.
Go to the RTO and the ROAD TAX for 11 Months or for the period you are going to stay in Maharashtra and drive tension free.

IF you face any trouble please let me know I would be happy to help as I have gone through the pain when I got the bike from MP (with and without NOC)

                                Cheers.
