  • Re: Inter-State Bike Transfer Thread

    Hi,
I am getting a 200NS from my friend. Bike will be transferred within the state. i.e. from Ahmedabad (GJ1) to Gandhidham (GJ12).

What all steps would I have to take to transfer everything on my name.

Bike was on finance. Do I need to inform it to police commissioner office that bike being personal owned now.

Do I need to get rechecked the bike by insurance Co.?

Road tax is paid for life time, what does that means.?

Expenses incurred including RC transfer, insurance transfer, anything extra.

Here is what should be done.

      1) If the hypothecation is complete ( your friend has paid all the EMI's) the bike has to be transferred to his name, for this to happen he has to get an endorsement from the bank and go to the RTO

      2) Next You need to take an NOC from the original RTO where the bike is now registered addressing the RTO where you wish to register the bike and apply for a transfer of ownership.

      3) Just check the insurance is current and has not lapsed, you have to intimate and get the name changed on the insurance policy once the transfer happens to your name.

      4) Road tax for a new vehicle is paid for 15 years or as stipulated in the state MV act. Some states have it as 10 years.

      5) If you approach an Agent they will chage you twice the actual money you pay the RTO ( ball park figure of 2000)

      6) Invest some time and go through your state RTO site for more details.

      Cheers.

        • Re: Inter-State Bike Transfer Thread

I own a 2013 Yamaha FZS that I bought in Karnataka (KA-05). I have moved to Kolkata now and will be here for max 1.5-2 years and then I will shift to New Delhi.

I have my RC, DL, PUC and also the NOC from Bangalore RTO. So should I just pay the road tax in Kolkata? Or do I need to register my bike in Kolkata and get the no. changed too?

Also can someone please tell what is the validity of NOC issued from Bangalore RTO here in Kolkata? Some people say its 6 months, others claim 11 months. I am confused here.

            • Change of registration and name transfer from Karnataka to Kerala

              Hello XBhpians,

Please guide me on the formalities required for changing the registration number of two wheeler from Karnataka to Kerala.

NOTE : The bike was purchased and registered in Gujarat and changed the registration and number to Karnataka 2 months back.
Now as my friend is planning to purchase the bike from me in Kerala and hence would like to know the formalities.

Any leads on amount and genuine person or driving schools who facilitate this request will be helpful.

              Thanks.

                  Hi,
I am not sure if this is the current forum thread, moderators please move the post if it's in the wrong thread.

So I purchased a bike from some one back in 2011, he handed me his RC and form 29 & 30 signed and filled to transfer. He doesn't live in india anymore now.

Me being lazy, postponed transfer by few months, and then the worst happen and I lost the RC. I kept using bike in his registration till I figure out what to do.

2016 now, I've to sell the bike off as I am moving out from here. Now the panic strike, what to do... I can't sell this bike without an RC ...

What options do I've, please suggest.

                  Thanks,
                  Ankit

Now this is a real big problem. As you haven't transferred the vehicle in your name you can't have the duplicate RC. Consult with the agents or driving schools. Even if there is a process it is going to be very expensive. Do tell us if you've found any way. Best of luck.

We are a 2 wheeler forum only, so let's assume you're talking about bike X.

There are 2 ways you can currently go about it if you're adamant with bringing X to BLR.

                        1. Carry the original invoice of car purchase, with the original RC card. Get a PUC done in Kerala and carry petrol pump receipts (and toll receipts) to prove that you have stayed in BLR for less than 30 days. Avoid middlemen and head to the RTO and pay only the lifetime road tax. No need to get KA reg plates.
But the catch is, you will not recover any money after a year when you plan to leave BLR.

                        2. Get an NOC from KL RTO. Now, carry the same stuff as mentioned above - PUC, original invoice, RC, petrol pump/toll receipts and head to BLR RTO and apply for KA plates + lifetime tax. After a year, you can apply for a refund from the RTO and pray that you get your money back in under 6 months of time. Purely based on your luck.
If you then head back to KL, you'll have to repeat the same steps again.

If I were you and I had to return back to KL after a year, I'd not bother bringing X here.
However, the formula for calculating LTT here is:

Tax on Depreciated value of X (as per the original invoice, or KA RTO records in its absence) + Cess@10% of the depreciated value + Cess@1% of the depreciated value.
Say, the depreciated cost of X is 2L now. Tax is 18% IIRC. (maybe wrong here)

                        So total tax = 18% of 2L + 10% of (18% of 2L) + 1% of (18% of 2L) = 39,960.

This is just LTT. For option 2, you'll have to spend more for KA plates. If you opt for option 1, you lose all this money after a year.

Better get a scooter and sell it while moving back.

Just an update, in case you are not, Bike from some other states can ride in Bangalore for 1 year without paying road tax.
“Drive Without Borders”, a Facebook group have won their two-year battle against the clause in the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Act mandating payment of lifetime road tax within 30 days. On Thursday, the Karnataka High Court quashed the 2014 amendment that introduced the clause. Under the Central Motor Vehicles Act, owners of vehicles registered in one state are supposed to pay a lifetime tax when they shift to a state that is not their domicile. However, in 2014, the transport department in Karnataka ruled that it should be done within 30 days of entering the state.

                              Dear Xbhp members

I have a Bajaj Discover 100 DTSi, 2013 make and bought on 20 Feb 2013. Till now this bike has covered 63000 kms without any problems and is going strong and I take care of this bike personally and I service this bike all by myself. Now the condition of the bike
                              1. The original tyres are now getting bald and may need replacement in another 10k kilometers (considering another 4 months to cover this distance)
                              2. Also the chain sprocket kit may also need replacement in another 10k kilometers
                              3. The brokers/ Second hand bike dealers say that Bajaj Discover does not have any resale value and refuse to even check the bike and let me know the approximate resale value of the bike

On the above two along with other minor jobs I may have to approximately 4000 rs.

Now as I have got a new job in Gujarat, I am skeptical, if I should keep this bike and take it to my new place at Gujarat. I want to know if I should go through the entire ordeal of procuring a NOC and repaying the road tax in Gujarat is worth or should i sell the bike here and buy a new one there.

Your inputs would be highly appreciated.
