As of now, I am riding my KA registered R15 in Pune for almost 1 year. I haven't yet paid any tax as of now, but if I decide to stay back in Pune then I will pay only the road tax retaining my KA registration, as I don't wanna lose the KA feeling of my bike.

You can retain the other state number and ride by paying the tax of Karnataka. It shouldn't be a problem as far as I know. But you'll be needing a NOC from your old state's registration center by filling up Form 28.

If you want to change the registration, that also you can do. As far as I know, you can also get back an amount for cancelling the registration of your old state, as it is taken for a long term. But that's a long govt. process.

Requesting all Bangalorians, if you guys can update hows the situation like for an out station Biker to roam around in Bangalore. Ive been following Team-Bhp's thread for the last 2 weeks, Traffic police in Bangalore are stopping almost all out-station vehicles since the amendment of 28 (29 ? ) Feb '14 in which they have reduced the 11 month period to 1 month ( for an outstation vehicle to ply in Bangalore without paying Road tax ). Also, they assume you are staying for more than a month and confiscate your documents, and you have to prove that you are not staying for more than a month. Toll reciepts etc arent being accepted and people had to go as far as to show Electricity Bill's of their house in other states to prove themselves. Predominant in/near Electronic city.
I have to come to Bangalore next week, and i definitely don't want to pay road tax for coming for just a couple of days, and neither i want to haggle and argue with the RTO folks.
      Any updates please ?

I'm not really sure about the amendment you're pointing to, a link would be really useful and helpful as it has been giving me sleepless nights for quite some while now.
I intend to stay for one more month and then I'll be back to my native registration state.

AFAIK motor vehicle act 1988, section 47 states that any vehicle intending to stay for more than 12 months has to re-register. You can Google this, but the amendment you're talking about, I'm unaware of that.

Please keep me posted with any updates if you have. Thanks

How long do you intend to stay, because you could bring the latest PUC and a petrol receipt of your state which can work as a proof for at least a month.

Police checks are common here, i intend to stay here til April end and have a haryana registered bike, each time i see a police check i mostly try to avoid it. Its turned scary and frustrating now.:banghead:

Damn. Now just gotta see if this continues. I thought maybe its the financial year end on 31st march, so they are trying to get as much as they can.
Problem is i'll be staying in BTM layout where i heard there are a lot of checks, just as u get down on Banarghetta road. Also i gotta go to Electronic city once, and even there, there are a lot of checks !!! Worst thing is if they confiscate your docs, you have to come some other day, again to Bangalore, to fight and haggle and then pay up so much!

Try to avoid the police checks as much as you can. You'll get checks at BTM, EC, Bannerghatta Rd. etc. as these are crowded and popular places. I don't think it will happen after the start of the new month and once the salaries are credited.

                          Here you go:

It's really not fair what they're doing, though. They're discriminating against the general population just because a few folk decided to register their expensive European luxury cars in Puducherry, etc., to save on a few lakhs in road tax each because the authorities rape you with the taxes here in Bangalore.

                          • Have some questions for transporting my bike from New Delhi to Bangalore

                            Hello guys!

I live in New Delhi and might relocate to Bangalore due to my job. I would have to relocate for 1.5 years or maximum 2 years. I want to take my bike to Bangalore with me but a few of my friends told me that I will have to transfer the registration of my bike to Karnataka transport authority from Delhi. They told that I can't ride my bike in Bangalore or anywhere in Karnataka due to this for such a long period and it is mandatory to transfer. Is this true? If yes, what is the procedure for this? (Any link which mentions the procedure and the cost would be appreciated).

                            Thanks in advance!!

Mods: I was not sure if this should have been posted in 'Help Me' section. Please move this post to the right section and I apologize for (if posted) posting in the wrong section.

Technically, yes. You'll have to pay the lifetime road tax and re-register the bike in Karnataka.

Recently the Karnataka govt. changed the 'grace period' of inter-state vehicles in Karnataka from 11 months to 1 month. The RTO officials were seizing the vehicles/RC/DL of those who had not paid the LTT at various parts in the city. There were also reports of harassment by the RTO officials like tearing up of the toll receipts etc. Apparently they were bothered only about the LTT and didn't bother anything about the registration. Also heard that this was done to meet the year end targets and things have subdued after March 31st.

Thanks for the response. Could you please help me with any documents or links where I can get some more information. My bike is a CBR 250 ABS version. Any idea how much tax I will have to pay? I don't have much knowledge about these taxes and processes.

                                Thanks
