Watchout for those One-eyed evil trucks !!
Good Initiative this......
This happened to me...
It was after dark & I was out on highways.
I took the exit from the highway onto a service lane. Note that this service lane (due to some ongoing construction work) accepted dual way traffic & was devoid of any Pavement lamps. I casually decided to overtake the car leading me along its right side. During the process, I saw a lonely round Headlight approaching towards me from the opposite side. It did not bother me as I felt that its just a motorcycle coming towards me & that I had enough clearance on the road & did not have to rush to complete the overtaking. To my horror, as the headlight came closer to me (within a distance of 40 metres), I realised that it wasn't any motorcycle but an Ashok Leyland !! with its right headlight kaput !!!
I still don't know how I managed to squeeze into my side of the traffic at that moment of rush! Looks like at times like these, your instincts (reflexes) take over........for good atleast!
After the incident, I even managed to laugh about as it made me remember a comedy scene from a Tamil movie where the lead comedian lands himself in hospital at midnight after colliding with a Lorry thinking that he was making his way between two incoming Bullets !!
Hence, Lesson Learnt here :
After Dark...during overtaking.....always Double check...no.....Triple check if the light from the single head lamp from the opposite traffic is indeed coming from a motorcycle !!! Otherwise you might be in for a painful surprise !!
Cheers,
Karthik.
P.S.: If you are a truck driver, please check the function of your headlamps....especially the Right One !!

Oh cmon ... is that a valid point ?Originally posted by vas View Posti made a BIGG mistake of not buying an YEZDI when the company was in ashes, instead paid a FORTUNE for it 6 months back

I made the mistake of selling the Roadking that I got from mysore KA09 L429 - I never tracked it down later when I wanted it. If someone finds it please ping me
I am willing to pay fortune to get it back
Yup. In general its always best not to be right behind any vehicle.Stay to the left or right of it by a few feet. I made the same mistake as you on my ZMA on a long distance night ride and ended up hitting a stone at 80Ks. Gear Shifter broke and bike was jammed in 5th gear and had to ride like that for the next 195 KmsOriginally posted by Omi View PostNever ever keep going behind a car in traffic for a long time
On one occasion I was so fixated about a bike running ahead of me that I tail gated a maruti onmi - a taxi. And in keeping with their long, time-honoured tradition of abusing everything on the roads, the driver got down and took away my bike keys - it took a lot of effort to resolve the issue .Originally posted by braindead View Postfrom my personal experience:
2. ride your own ride. dont get fixated and follow the leading bikes every move. keep at least 100 feet from the other bikes in the riding group when on the open road.
5. in a road side argument keep the ignition key in your own hands.
cheers

Stop when the light turns Yellow from Green
This happened with me when i was in Jaipur.
I was in a hurry and approaching a major cross-road. The light turned yellow from green and i was following a car while crossing the signal.
Some dumb fellow who was too eager to cross the road had already come down in the middle of the road and i couldn't see him as my view was blocked by the car i was following.
He was right in front of the car and to avoid it, jumped back and directly in my path
I fell down really hard and that pedestrian was thrown off on other side of the divider. I was really thankful that he wasn't critically injured nor was I. So, try not to cross a signal when it is about to turn red! It is better to stop to one side (just in case someone behind you wants to cross it anyhow).
PS. My helmet saved my head that day. I heard a terrible crash sound when i fell and that was my helmet hitting the road!!sigpic

Some of my Experices:
Incident 1:
This happened around 2 months ago. I was coming back from Office at around 2 in night. I was damn tired and was feeling very sleepy. I had my classes at 7 in the morning so I wanted to reach home as soon as possible .
Crossed 12/22 road in Noida and was ready to take the awesome left turn ahead. Slipped my butt to left and hung off the bike at around 60ish speeds. . Was 70% through the corners when i saw 2 Cyclists on wrong side of the road riding towards me
. They had no reflectors on there cycles, nothing . I braked with my bike leaned over, The front bounced twice and i felt like I AM GONE NOW. I dont know why but my bike didnt skid and i managed to miss both of them by inches.
Lesson learnd : Nomatter what the time of the day, Dont expect people to ride on correct lane.
Incident 2:
I was riding back from office at around 12 in the night. Dropped a friend home at Noida Sec-62 and was riding back home from Highway (i normaly dnt ride on that highway). I was Cruising at 90km/hr. A guy on Omni was flashing high beam, i took my bike to side and let him overtake me. This Omni guy ripped the balls out of his Omni and accelerated ahead and what i see next is Him breakig HARD (i think Some dog came out of nowhere) .
I had my balls in my mouth
, I braked as HARD as i could, front Tyre locked twice but i Managed to act like Human ABS
. Somehow, stopped just inches away from Omni.
Lesson learned: OMNI DRIVERS SUCK and Practicing hard breaking is never a bad idea.Street racing is for Squids trying to make up for their small equipment

Some tips
I have some points to write, these are from my personal experience.
1.If there is a vehicle in front of you where you cannot see through (it is a bus, truck-too wide and high; it is an auto-small but blocks your vision to see what is right in front of it), better be careful.
What you can do: Overtake it : you know the general rules, take a good distance from the leading vehicle then move to right side of the road (to judge the correct movement of the vehicle in front of you)
There was an odd experience with me: I was just behind this auto rickshaw and the road was badly crowded (2 way), so to avoid any overtaking headache I kept on following the auto, suddenly the auto took a right turn (the driver knew that he can take a right as his view was wide in front of him) and what I did was just followed him!! Oh god! When I realized it was too late to move to left as I was already on the right side of the road. My mistake was that I was very much close to the leading vehicle, and my front wheel was hardly 1.5 ft away from him.
2. I was taking a sharp u turn (it was a broken divider that was allowing bikes to take U turn)towards right and when I was just on the other road (my front wheel just entered the territory) I realized that I cannot get onto that road right away and I need to wait for few more moments. I used my front brake as my right leg was on the road. My bike was on 45degree, about to take a right turn and there were loose gravels and all those loose stuffs! My front stopped right away (it was hard braking with disk) and the inertia of my body was much towards right! Simply my bike lied down on the ground and I stood surprised.
Never take sharp U turn in hurry and be careful with front braking (there are very few roads which are free of loose gravels and sands)
3. You can (but try to avoid) follow a vehicle which is not taller than you sitting on your bike. Sounds crazy?

Never do the performance "mods" without fully understanding the basics. Companies spend good amount of money and time while designing the bikes so show some respect towards it .
Never jump into cosmetic mods as well , especially "Fatter" tyres , they mess up the handling , suspension and what not.
Never buy a used bike from dealers.
Never whack open the throttle of a RD350 in karol bagh during a test ride . (Learnt this hard way, was not aware about the brakes of a typical RD )

Simple but a costly mistake!!
Once I've decided to change the spark plug of my TVS Victor. The shop fellow had given me a twin-electrode plug saying that it is superior.
I just removed the old plug and replaced it with the new one. No Prob! very simple!!
Just kick started the bike, nothing happened, from then I was feeling the kicker to travel freely without engine compression.
The new plug I installed was a longer one than the original
! It got stuck with the valve and damaged the valve head causing an engine leak. I spend about 2K to make the engine back to work!!!
"ALWAYS, ALWAYS , ALWAYS check the length of the new plug with the old one before assembling, NEVER go by the words of the shop fellows" - A lesson for my life time.

NEVER EVER try to kiss your girlfriend when the bike is running!!
the only crash i had on my bike until now was due to this, the bike steered left eventually and i didn't know it was doing so coz i was busy!!
and it hit a footpath and we both were bruised up, lucky that both had a half faced helmet on...
gosh now on she and me always wear full face.....
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.
