Funniest mistake EVER on this threadOriginally posted by NANOtechnology View PostNEVER EVER try to kiss your girlfriend when the bike is running!!
the only crash i had on my bike until now was due to this, the bike steered left eventually and i didn't know it was doing so coz i was busy!!
and it hit a footpath and we both were bruised up, lucky that both had a half faced helmet on...
gosh now on she and me always wear full face.....
My views on the YZF-R15 V2.0: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/news/198...tml#post699240
The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

I dont know how right it is to post here, but I came across this wonderful piece of information. Off course, it comes from Out-Side India hence few of the tings might be abrupt, but still, the ground basics hold truth.
Source : OTO
Aggressive Drivers
− These high risk drivers climb into the anonymity of an automobile and take our their frustrations on anybody at anytime.
− For them, frustration levels are high and level of concern for fellow motorists is low.
− They run stop signs and red lights, speed, tailgate, weave in and out of traffic, pass on the right, make improper and unsafe lane changes, make hand and facial gestures, scream, honk, and flash their lights.
− They drive at speeds far in excess of the norm which causes them to: follow too closely, change lanes frequently and abruptly without notice (signals), pass on the shoulder or unpaved portions of the roadway, and leer at and/or threaten -
verbally or through gestures - motorists who are thoughtless enough to be in front of them.
When Confronted by an Aggressive Driver
− First and foremost, make every attempt to get out of the way.
− Put your pride in the back seat. Do not challenge them by speeding up or
attempting to hold-your-own in your travel lane.
− Wear your seat belt. It will hold you in your seat and behind the wheel in case you need to make an abrupt driving maneuver and it will protect you in a crash.
− Avoid eye contact.
− Ignore gestures and refuse to return them.
− Report aggressive drivers to the appropriate authorities by providing a vehicle description, license number, location, and if possible, direction of travel.
− If you have a cellular phone, and can do it safely, call the police.
− If an aggressive driver is involved in a crash farther down the road, stop a safe distance from the crash scene, wait for the police to arrive, and report the drivingbehavior that you witnessed. Its not about the BHP or the CC, its about one common religion called Biking!!!

>talking on phone while riding is a big no n placing the phone in helmet nd talking is big no no ..
> if sum1 cals u take ur time to halt safely and thn attend the cal or cal em back no need to ask pillion to hold the cell for yew either
>No overtaking from left ..use your horn and be patient
>decent speed to avoid sudden braking to avoid pillion's nose bleed
>searching for stores, shop or watever while riding evn at low speed can be harmful

My First (and worst till date) Mistake.
It happened when I was in 12th. It was a Friday evening and the next Saturday was our school's annual sport day. We were laying the tracks, preparing pits and so on. Then, one of my friends bought his brand new Scooty Pep. After we finished our works, each of us took turns checking out that baby. But soon enough, I came to know how brutal damage even that baby can do. The ground was full of gravel. I took the bike, moved it forward, and at may be around 15-20 kmph, applied the rear brake. (Dont ask me why) But there was no bite. I thought
'Man.. wats this..? This thing has no brakes..?
'.
Then was the BIG mistake. I grabbed the front brake lever, and squeezed it. Oh God..That was it. Skidded almost 10 ft and I came down hard. My left leg was underneath the vehicle, and was dragged along. Knee was twisted 180 degr, causing severe ligament fracture. I has to undergo one surgery and 1 month bed rest to recover. But, Thank God that I did't break any bones.
Even today I am afraid of hard braking, especially, using the front one.MOTORCYCLING IS AS MUCH ART AS IT IS SCIENCE

I made a mistake by fitting horns by an inexperienced mechanics leading to burnt fuse ! It took me a lot of money to retain it back to normal ! So be cautious about doing any mod on your bike !Presently own :

Some basic ones from me, I learned these the hard way -
1. Never ride drunk, even if it is just cough syrup. About an year ago I had a cough and was drinking cough syrup for it. Did not think it mattered, but fell into a pothole and bruised my elbow.
2. When on highways, respect the big guys. Trucks - Generally they drive very slow and will easily give way. Do not bother them by honking/flashing repeatedly if they are blocking your way while they are overtaking someone else, it will only annoy everyone. It takes ages for them to come back to cruising speed if they have to slow down for you, while you need only twist your accelerator a bit.
3. Always keep an eye on your RVM. There are some crazy drivers on the highway who will overtake inches from you at 3 digit speeds. Drive in a lane and use your indicators when you want to change lanes.
4. Always be prepared for unmarked speed breakers and potholes and roadkill, even if the road you have ridden so far has been butter smooth, especially at night.
6. Keep your visor clean always.
7. Carry cash if you want to fuel on highways. Petrol pumps on the highways don't take cards.

Never ever underestimate an autorickshaw
it happend to me before 6 moths...i was returning from villupuram to Chennai..i am a biker who thinks doing 120 in highways is right.
an SHARE AUTO was on the extreme corner of the road.i was doin120+ .i didnot take care of him as he was like a small bug,SUDDENLY HE TOOK A FULL TURN TO CROSS THE ROAD.i had no time to brake.became unconcious for next 20 minutes,FEEMUR BONE AND HAND broken, was in bed for next four months, now too not fully recovered.
DONT BELIVE IN GOVERNMENT AMBULANCE..108 is an utter waste in REMOTE HIGHWAYS....i was brought to chennai ina HEARSE VAN...no FIRST AID KIT in GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS..
DON EVER THINK TAT TRUCK IS THE OLY PROB IN HIGHWAY,WE CAN ESCAPE FRM IT COS IT HAS A HIGHER TURNIN RADIUS

Never get provoked by other retard bikers on the road.Because every time back to home from my office i get challenged by these peoples. But i don't mind i ride in my own safety limits. These guys dont wear a helmet and rip their bikes without caring the road conditions.A LOST RACE IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN A LOST LIMB

Myself have been in situation like this a 100 times. Thank God, I was driving my car in all those situations. Wheels go out of alignment and even suspension gets disturbed after each night drive on the highway.MOTORCYCLING IS AS MUCH ART AS IT IS SCIENCE

First of all, thanks to the thread starter for the idea.
The only incident (touchwood) that I had completely because of my fool hardiness was when I was racing a ZMA on a Unicorn. I came up a flyover which did not a have a smooth gradient at the starting of the bridge, and there was some unavoidable traffic. Lost front wheel traction so no front braking. Rammed right into the rear of a Pulsar and practically ripped its silencer off. Luckily, the guys riding the pulsar were very kind otherwise I'd have probably been beat up. Still feel guilty for the crap I pulled.
Anyway, here're some instanced where a little alertness helped me avoid a big incident.
1. Kids on roads.
No matter where you are, If you see a child playing even 3 metres away from the road's edge, slow down to 15-20k/hr so that you can stop instantly should the kid run into the road. I have seen many careless parents who not only leave the kid unattended near the roadside but also are jerks enough to make them walk along on their right (exposed to traffic).
2. Tramlining. (look it up)
Alway, ALWAYS approach elevation changes or edges of the road at a perpendicular, or a close to perpendicular angle and at a low speed. We bikers run the biggest risk of crashing becuase of tramlining. t is believed that was the cause of death for 2 different bikers in Delhi's moolchand underpass in a single day or something.
3. Ride extra cautiously after you've pulled up in front of a big vehicle like a truck or a bus. In case of a mishap, the vehicle behind you might not be able to stop as fast as you'd like it to.
The key to a safe ride is alertness. Look ahead and train your mind to make calculations of how and when elements you're approaching can behave and how you can avoid the worst case scenario. Like one rider wrote above, you always run the risk of the unexpected. Some drivers/riders are just so ignorant that they would simply pull across the road without looking out for oncoming traffic.

Firstly... Great thread...Originally posted by Ashimjyoti Das View Post4. Always be prepared for unmarked speed breakers and potholes and roadkill, even if the road you have ridden so far has been butter smooth, especially at night.
Had my worst accident (minor one) till date due to the above... As someone mentioned earlier, its damn scary to see yourself flying off the bike, falling and then rolling along...
Learnings: Never use tinted shades/visors at night (believe me, they do affect visibility); Never listen to music/radio while riding (the slight loss in concentration is not worth it)
Another one... (Luckily didn't lead to an accident)
Was going home from an overnighter at a friend's place... Did not sleep at all... Was goin on an empty strech of road and I suddenly realised that I fell asleep during the last 20 mtrs... Scared the S#@t out of me (enough to keep me awake for the journey)...
Learnings: Should have left the bike in my friend's bldg and gone hom in an auto...
Also, I always follow a rule. Whenever I overtake a stationary auto, I keep half a lane distance from it. They always take half a u-turn and then look if anyone is coming from behind...I like 'em Naked
Blah Blah Blah!
Reason is not automatic. Those who choose not to recognise it, can't be conquered by it.

Adding to that Be carefull on HAL stretch ! the roads are very small , and volvo s always look to overtake Ordinary buses , dont get caught in middle !Originally posted by hertz View PostThis one is for bangaloreans!
On any road in general and on hosur road in particular, Respect the Volvo buses.. these are probably the most powerful vehicles on the hosur road. Their silent engine hide its presence! Usually most of them under estimate its power specially while overtaking. My brother had a narrow escape!! from day day onwards am very cautious!!!site:xbhp.com keyword -> Google this to dig up stuff in xbhp faster
