I still remember the way my mother's face went when I asked her whether she can give me some cash to buy a riding gloves..... and the first thing that came from her mouth is "are you going for any bike races???" these kind of questions comes due to Sure ignorance and my mom them thought that helmet was just a means to escape from the cops,..!!but then I decided to educate my mom on the importance of these safety measures and now my mom calls out from the kitchen when ever I go out "nandhu... did you take your helmet??"

wow guys this thread is an eye opener.
till date i only used to wear a decent full face ninja helmet ..... but after going thru this thread and recently helping a guy search for his missing digits on the road in a RTA sent shivers down my spine and i am thinking of buying at least a pair of gloves before i go for an upgrade from my P135 ls.
though i will look around for proper gloves still if anyone can give me a heads up on where can i get decent gloves in delhi....... my online search right now gave me gloves which are about Rs.500 - Rs.800. are they any good ??
i can shell out upto 5k for proper riding gloves if they are sturdy and durable.
needless to say i would hate to be that guy..........
about the thread i always have envied riders in full gear but thought that probiking stuff can wait till i upgrade to a ninja, not anymore.

[QUOTE=BORN TO RACE;385992]Worst thing happens when a person with riding gear have an accident. The crowd just blames him for accident only because he looks too flashy for them. They never bother about whose mistake it was.[/QUOTE so true.. and well said bro, I had the very experience today, while I was riding through a street road (at the speed of about 10 kmph) a small boy suddenly came running in front of my wheels. I stopped immediately and luckily no one got hurt but the boy's mom who came after the boy slapped her son for running in the roads and then she also shouted and complained to the near by people that "these freaks (we bikers) should not be allowed to ride on normal roads and our license should be ceased since we possess threat to their children's life" she also shouted at me when I took off saying " go get yourself a hired race track, this is not race track.." although I went very slowly and always expect such things to happen while driving through a street and be very cautious.. still we are blamed pointlessly just because we gear up when we ride.. :-(

2 months back I had to brake rapidly and stop at moment's notice, cause some idiot cycle-wallah decided to cross the road suddenly, and it was an empty road! I was doing 80, stopped inches away from him, he crossed, I was releasing clutch and suddenly I was flying! I hit the dirt face-down and debris rushed in my visor. I get up almost unscratched to discover that I was hit by a dream yuga whose drums were not enough for the sudden stop. two helmetless riders are rolling on the road.

general chaos ensued, people came running, blaming the cycle-wallah and praising me for the sudden stop. They are amazed to see me unharmed, because the other two came off real bad. then one of them took my helmet in hand and said: So this is why you should wear helmet!

I know practical example works best, but it is hard to demonstrate each time someone scoffs at your attire!

Interesting experiences you guys have had. I must say riding in full gears does get you the looks. But for me the experience hasn't been negative.

If they do react I usually get a thumbs up as I overtake them, sometimes people look amusingly as I wait at a signal or am checking out my GPS. I gear up for tours and on all the three occasions that I have been stopped by cops recently they let me off without checking any papers while they were checking papers of every other rider. That too when my motorcycle has a Rajasthan registration and right now I am studying in Karnataka.

On my last ride as I stopped by a village house to check the GPS, a school kid came out of house and began talking about the bike and told me that my bike (Karizma) was his favourite. He touched the gear and knuckles with a lot of curiosity and as I was leaving offered me a toffee. Of course I refused, but really generous of him to do that to a total stranger, I just wish I had a Snicker the kid would have loved that .

I never had any negative experiences with proper riding gear either . Cops never stopped me , I guess a person looks more like a mature, responsible rider in proper gear ; ) . It does attract lots of attention and that's not bad . Even if some of them try to copy, just to show off, it still is a good thing atleast they will be much safer now .
I honestly won't ever care about the negatives, as it's a must do thing.
In India, most of us, especially the youngster think helmet and rear view mirror ares a big joke and will hide their rebel atittude, forget about other types of protection. But whenever I stop beside them on signals or like that, I can tell they do feel kind of stupid and I hope that changes their mind. And whenever I get a chance, I do educate them.

Helmet and riding gear is the crown and armor for the true riding knight .

I happened to come across a rider yesterday. I'd not disclose more about him, as he probably might belong to xbhp, guessing from some stickers.
He'd be what I'd say a perfect illustration of a person on a hawaiian holiday. As I pulled up alongside him at a signal, he took one long look at me & my wife. We were not completely ATGATT, but we both had helmets, (non-riding) jackets & shoes. I was expecting him to pull some antics, but he was a decent rider, not rash at all, properly used indicators for lane changes, and flashed his pass lights during overtaking.

That makes me think - why does someone, who is a good rider, who knows road etiquette and who is not a rash guy, have to be dressed in shorts and slippers while riding?

And then there was this guy, pretty rash riding, geared in a cramster breezer jacket and tailbags on a 200cc bike, but wearing a chappal and no helmet!

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Maybe a TBhpain! I mean no offences. But, most bikers after graduating to cars seem to retain decency in riding etiquette, but forget gears.

Hmm. But I know 5 T-Bhpains who are 16 years old. There are many who're in college. But hey, I'm also only 25 years young.

                      Anyways, lets stop their stories.

after a long time i had breakfast from home. was munching it down when dad came by. hey, fella , you know what, you look so idiot with all these circus, big jacket, big helmet,gloves...
all people laugh at you. feel some shame.
for 2 lakh you should have bought a car.
my dad had an accident last year. still he is not able to walk freely. I used to fight to make him wear helmet. and that helmet did its best job during crash. had he worn some other best gears, maybe he would not have got damaged so much...
i just said, i dont wanna get hurt like you did on a bike...
right now im in a village. all the people stare and laugh at me. only few youngsters understand me...may be others think, rich guy living a loud life for attention...and i aint any rich....

                          Hai
The other day I was riding on tambaram-ponneri bypass road. There was a lone stretch. I notice someone waving at me with an illuminated stick like the ones police men use for traffic regulation. So I slowed down and found out that he was a highway patrol police. He stopped me because my DRIRIDER jacket was glowing due to the reflective stickers. He was kinda of staring at me. I knew that it was the suit so I told him that it was a safety riding jacket with reflectors. To my surprise he patted me on the back and said it is nice to see people wearing full safety gear and are conscious of such safety gears. I was totally astonished to hear this from a police personal.

                          Cheers

                            oh men, i forgot this...
last week i was on my regular route, doing around 50-60 very sedately... saw a cop bolero in front, knew it was RTO. as i approached, a policeman started taking my pics with digital cam.. he was clicking as much as he could. Ass. RTO was incharge, asked me whereabouts, asked if he could see my face. well, thats a polite but firm...
                            i removed balaclava, helmet.
after my XBHP classes and our RAS campaign in trivandrum district, he patted me and said to other morons who were being fined for various things, see and learn.. this is how you should be when on a 2 wheeler. he even congratulated me for correct licence plate. its sad that many xbhpians have not got correct plates...

Ah, Naked Wolves, that explains it. There was a founder of a chapter of Naked Wolves bragging about riding unsafely and playing Tom and Jerry with the cops. I think I've the posted the screenshot here a week ago. I'm on Team-Bhp too, but I'm not an uncle, but I act like one though, well, I was always accused of being premature

Now, let's share my story. Yesterday was Swarashati Puja, and my boyfriend came to pick me up from college to drop me off at home. There were a couple of cops standing there "controlling" the hooligans, as he arrived, everyone was staring at him as he had riding gears on, even the cops came to check his papers while there was at least 200 half drunk unlicensed helmetless guys riding around.
                              I am back!
