    unlike us people, most just ride bikes just for the sake of it.. they don't drive a car as it would consume more fuel or just that they have to go daily.. they really don't care about their bike and don't have any love for it.. i have seen my friends don't even service their bikes for really long times.. and we can't expect such people to know the importance of riding gear..
    i usually ride short city distances and were helmet and gloves.. and man, at the red lights, people stare first at the gloves and then at the face.. and i simply wave at them and ride on..

      Most of them who gaze consider such outfit as a "SHOW OFF". I just ask, what is there to show off with safety gears? Don't they take an umbrella while it is raining? Don't they wear slippers/sandals to walk on the road? They need to think in those terms.

      Our roads need more and more bikers with such safety outfits.

        Wearing the right gear is just as important as having a properly serviced bike and knowing how to ride it.

          Guys try riding with an equally kitted pillion and touring luggage. The owner of a dhaba would not belive that I had come from Ambala. I guess we Indians believe that we are indestructible or maybe we are fatalists. Expecting riders to accept riding gears is a long way off where people find seat belts and helmets to be unnecessary and helmets at considered best adorned stuck to the elbow and not on the bqd

              If you wear riding gear, YOU ARE A RACER! Nothing else, you're a menace to the society, young kids would see you and start racing on the streets. Couple this with your Dhoom bike, you MUST be jailed for doing this lunacy on the road!!!

              (told to me by an elderly person in Koyambedu, Chennai)

                hahaha.. Giving you a direct ticket to jail..
                racer thing and hyper young kids with big bikes.. This is normal for every geared rider..
                nothing can be done in this regard..
                From not long, govt has made helmets to be worn by law and this forces the bikers to wear them.. Like-wise, other gears should also be made a as important as helmets..
                only then when more people are saved in accidents, the society would start accepting propre riding gear..
                Ride safe and have fun.

                      Cops too are very ignorant, I was riding pillion with my friend and we were stopped for wearing helmets, according to that nutcase cop only the rider wears a helmet, if the rider and pillion wear helmets, it means they are upto some mischief

                          They stare because riding gear for any driving any vehicle as such except probably military aircraft is alien in India. I would have stared if I didn't know much about motorcycles or safety.
                          Plain ignorance, little unwanted attention but no big deal.

                              When I had Yamaha RX100 (2 years back), I always wear helmet when I am riding.
                              & till date I have noticed only 4 to 5 RX100 riders (including me), who were wearing helmet. So this kind of staring,
                              I have noticed so many times.

                                I personal feel the kind of importance given for helmet same kind of importance should be given to gloves n other gear
